I have no idea why but for some very dumb, stupid and utterly senseless reason, I had the urge to have another go at Laguna Seca this afternoon...
I have tech same draw. It's like a train wreck but I keep wanting to go back...

I think it is because I know I CAN do well there but for some reason my brain refuses to remember the horror show that was the prior races and only focus on the better ones as in "yeah, I can do that again..."

I think I need to paint a big target on my Silvia just for laughs.

It seems like I subconsciously might be into BDSM... I took one more chance, using my second account.

Only did 1 lap qualy and started P13. I kept my cool, avoided mistakes and some questionable attempts to touch my car by others ( 🤣 ) and believe it or not, I was up to P6 or P7 by the end of lap 5.

Before the final turn, the driver in front lost control and went way wide into the gravel. I saw him from the corner of my eye, adjust the car to point into me as I go to overtake him, and floors it in my direction instead of staying in his lane!

Bullseye! Hits me like a missile and sends me from Laguna Seca to Suzuka! Somehow, with one lap to go, I went from dead last to finish P11 (2 places ahead from my starting position) because people were still taking each other out further up the track! 🤬🫣🍌😢😵

Sport Mode has become a disgrace, a laughing stock full of tears ⚰️

Thank you Gran Turismo for providing me another opportunity to get familiar with a track I'd not touched too much before. In this case it's the Watkins Glen TT giving me the laps needed to at least represent myself at Race C.

Saying that, the Audi R8 '19 is total horse doodoo. That's what I get for rushing into my car selection after qualifying in the Supra.

I thought a few times during the first stint I was doing alright but it was an illusion generated by the fact I was keeping decent pace through the twisty bits.

I'm coming at this from the other guys perspective, and the reason is that I regularly assume bad intent and I start to see red, when in retrospect it was just some paint scraping.

So I'm the other guy, and I feel a lot of banging from your car. Mind you I'm doing as much banging as you are, but of course I don't see it that way. That red mist starts rising, and eventually I see a chance to "get" you, so I take it.

But then I save the replay and look at it, and feel like a complete jerk. I realize that I assumed bad intent when there obviously wasn't any. I mean, you didn't even knock me off the track! Just some bumping. I'm such an idiot.

Bottom line, no, I don't think you were doing anything wrong, at least nothing that the other guy didn't also do. I just think he saw red, and that was the end of it.

Everyone should watch replays of the races they think they were wronged in. They'd be surprised at how many times it wasn't that way, and in some cases, they were at fault.

(And I'm mostly typing all this to remind myself to not let the red mist win.)
Very sound advice. And one should try and remember that it's rarely malicious even in the heat of the moment.

It will help mate doing the circuit experience for WG it's a GR3 car and teaches you the bustop and how to accelerate from the exit of the horseshoe.

I know you guys go anti meta and anti strat but the softs "can" do a 4/6 split but smooth and consistent is the key. Otherwise the 5/5 on almost all cars is the way but unless you are top 1-3 go hards but be smooth and keep close and you are all good. Let the fast RS guys through as the race comes to you later as long as you are consistent

That's the perfect description of addiction. "Hi, my name is Grumpy, and I'm an addict." Except I can stop anytime I want. Of course, when I do, I start jonesing for another hit, and in the case of GT7, that's literally what I get!

Agreed on the car. It's unfortunately because it's (for me) the most stable MR car to drive and looks fantastic. It is an absolute slug on the straights though.

Don't do Daily Races super regularly but Waktins Glenn looked like a good bit of fun this week, so I decided to give it a try and happy to say that it is indeed a great combo. (Especially if you luck into a getting a lobby where everyone else, isn't being stupidly aggressive). Super proud of this effort last night.

Started from last because I like to try and avoid the first lap shenanigans, if I can. Hards initially, swapped to softs at the end of 5 (first race I tried, pitted lap 4 and the last lap was a real struggle to get the car to turn. Lap 5 seems like the happy medium). Just on the verge of getting back into B ranked after this.

I tried to improve QT times for both race B and C last night and for some reason I just could not drive for anything so I gave up and jumped on the TT instead. It took me a couple hours and got Gold so was happy. After that I jumped on my GB account and TT's there as well. Got Silver and figured that was good enough for that account and now feeling better about my driving I jumped into a race B against the Europeans.

There was about 30 seconds to join so I jumped in with no QT. Went from back (13th in incomplete field) to 9th with no drama and it felt good. The field was varied DR so for my C rank there was not much hope to climb further so I was satisfied.

Decided to do another, even though it was late, but this time I QT'd with a 1:28 something, which gave me P11 to start. That was better but the field was full of B, A and one A+ and only a handful of C. There may have been one lone D as well. Poor fella. This was going to be a bit of a challenge...

Well the race was terrific! I thought it was clean but I got no CRB and then remembered that I tapped Snowmoon51 in the Corkscrew due to different braking points and lines into it. I gave him room to slot back in front of me (as he was before) and we had a close race lap after lap until I eased off last lap to preserve my spot and not make any silly mistakes.

I managed to hit all my braking marks, and nail all my corners. I had no cars assist and no track aids. I still need track aids for many of the tracks as I still have not figured all of them out but Leguna Seca is one where aids get in the way and I drive better/faster without them.

I managed to climb to 8th which considering the field I am very pleased with. Hurray me! :D

Hmm..how do i access daily races? I cant believe i am asking this. I feel like a noob.
You need to unlock Sport Mode. Work your way through the Cafe menus and it will come.
Yeah, I think it is menu book 9 you have to complete.

Out of curiosity, does anyone in EMEA have an APAC account?

If so, what is the latency like? Was wondering if it might be useful for doing dailies in the morning before work or whatever.

Do you need one? I just did the 6am and 6:30am BST Watkins Glen races, mostly fellow B/S drivers with a few A's mixed in. Or are you up even earlier than me?

Don't know really. Was jusy thinking about creating an alt account, and thought it might be fun to do it in a different region. I have lots of mates in New Zealand too (originally from there), so it might be nice to race them one day.

Did not want to invest the time in getting to Cafe Menu 9 if the latency was no good though! :)

It's definitely worth getting to Cafe menu 9 to enter Sports Mode events, just do it. Remember 6am in the uk is 7am to 9am across the rest of the EMEA region, so plenty of people to race against at that time.

What did I do wrong to get a minute penalty?

A one-minute penalty is the standard for not using the mandatory tyres.

This week's Daily Race C at Watkins Glen has Racing Hard and Racing Soft as mandatory tyres. Failing to use both during the race results in a one-minute penalty.

However that video seems to be about a GT World Series race. Edit: Which has the same regulations, but it's five laps longer:

Ah I thought I was on hard tyres to start and went to softs, sorry I'm new to all of this and the forum, apologies.

I need to check stuff more thoroughly before going for it! Thank you, I thought it was because the quickest lapper brake checked me.

For anyone looking for a good solid, but not quite so fast, car. I'd recommend the Porsche. It's not the fastest, I can easily beat my qualy time in a Nismo or Merc, but it feels way safer to drive, no spinning up the rears on corner exit, I can do 6 laps on soft, compared to 5 in the Nismo. Best of all it's not that bad to drive on the hards.

I just switched from Porsche to Nismo for my last race, had a brilliant first half on softs, felt like a superstar moving up from 7th to 3rd, pulling clear of the rest of the pack. Put on the hards and I must have been the slowest driver in the race, dropped all the way back to 11th. 😿

Race B, corkscrew.
I just received a 6 seconds penalty for not respecting the yellow flag.
The flag appeared 1 millisecond before getting penalized. What?🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

There’s a guy on You Tube who posts here called Tidgney. He does weekly race guides where he explains the requirements for each race. Well worth watching!

That is the worst Penalty still in the game. Literally no one pays attention to the yellow flag, and it is a complete lottery as to whether you get the 3s or not. You had very bad luck there unfortunately.
