I've been running Q laps at Dragon Trail Reverse. I remember the layout fondly, and surprisingly, considering my age-ravaged brain, the track does my memories justice. Obviously I reserve the right to change my mind later, but for now, I LOVE THIS TRACK!
Yes, the
Chicken of Death can basically end a race in smoke and blood (hence the word "death"), and when you're racing with other people it can be almost like Russian Roulette as to how you'll come out of it, but that's also part of the fun.
Here's the scenario, and all you A+ drivers can ignore this:
Imagine you're following someone into the CoD, with people right on your butt. How is the person in front gonna handle it?
Are they better than me and will probably take the faster line, and exit cleanly? If so, then ignore what they might do and focus on myself.
However, if they're worse than me (or equal to me and we're both iffy), there's a good chance they'll crash and burn.
- Do I gamble and assume they're not gonna kiss the wall?
- This is obviously the best if I gamble correctly, but if not, it's the worst choice because I'll probably hit them, even to the point of getting a penalty.
- Do I gable the other way, and assume they're going to crash? Generally, that means I need to slow a little, to give me time to react to carnage in front of me.
- The people behind me will either hit me, which sucks but what can you do?
- Or else they'll do a mad scramble to not hit me, possibly causing their own demise. Not a horrible outcome for me, and I have the guy in front to blame.
- [Insert your thoughts here]
All of this has to be decided in a split second, as well as picking the best line based on which choice I make. If I judge correctly, and perform correctly, the adrenaline rush is as good as taking drugs (or so I've heard - of course I would have no personal knowledge of this.)
There's plenty of other thrills to be had throughout the track, too.
And what's the big deal with the CoD anyway? I mean, you veer a little to the left, then a little to the right, and keep on going.
