@TechnoIsLove

I don't have a YT channel.

I share my replays in GT7, mostly for myself, for posterity.

Actually, I share them during the Post Race Lobby so that my thoughts/feelings are fresh and not diluted by watching the replay back yet.

Guys......you all....are FAST!
it's known, but just to let you know another time :D
I'm still at 1:47:333 and can't reach 1:46, I tried to turn in second gear or a 1-2 brief, or I don't even know...I need more time to try tomorrow.
Yes, there’s some very fast people here but I’m not one of them 🤔. My 1:46.989 time yesterday must’ve been a fluke because today I can’t get within .4 of a second of it. For a long time I couldn’t even break the 1:48 second barrier, so in that regards 1:47.33 is not that bad for a low B.

I stayed up past my bed time 😂 and still didn't get that replay moved over to youtube 😔 it's shared in game though if anyone wants to watch it. I take advice/criticism really well and there is a really close finish lol

I love race B this week. I love the ford gt and i love the track. Probably did more races today than in the past month. Still pissed i missed out last week.... i really should be in bed already, the alarm goes off in 6 hours🥲

But i had to set a new qt first. 1.46.512 replay shared.

Good night and great racing gtplanet 🍻

I'm glad I'm not the only one not feelin' Daytona...was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with me. Absolutely loathe screwing-up while qualifying due to the painfully long lead-in. I get it, but I don't like it. So I went and did other things.

Like scoring my first gold in the time trials (Maggi'/Gr.3), that was awesome! Also took a couple more tenths off my qualifier at GVH. The Alfa rent-a-wreck seems to work nice, as does the Bugatti. Just gotta get my rythm down in the final sector and I should be able to hit 11's. Then tried the Porsche challenge in the 911 at Daytona and, yeah, it can still bite me. Interpret that how you will.

Until I figure the others out, the GVH race is like a good ol' crack fueled street fight, and I'm feeling nostalgic.😁

Took part in two demolition derbies tonight (cough cough B). After a hour or so getting frustrated with not improving my QT I thought what the heck and jumped in a race.

QT's in 8 so this was going to be tougher. Turn 1 and I get punted up the hiney, and get stuck against the wall. Drop to last. Managed to fight my way back up and finished 12. It was a mixed A/B lobby so I was hoping My DR would not drop too much, but I lost 2%.

I put some more QT in before next race and go figure, I shaved some time off my QT. Not enough to matter and I started 8th again. First lap was good and I'd worked my way my way to 6th in a drag out of the bus stop to the line but then braking for turn 1 I was hit and at 173mph it felt like I was launched to outer space....

Reviewing the replay, I was just in front of the Ford GT but on the outside as we hit the braking point. I was expecting them to back out to be safe in the turn but they didn't. I hit my brakes first and the Ford just sailed into my rear quarter causing me to spin out. I want to be mad but I can't be as testing both cars I know the VGT needs to brake earlier into turn 1. The Ford can brake later. In the end it was a racing incident of incompatible braking points. Still I can be annoyed that they came 4th while allowing their car to hit me.

I ended up 11 back in the fray and at turn 3 I punt P10. I wait for them, but get jumped by two others to drop to 13. 8 to 6 to 13; an eventful 1.2 laps.

After that I fought hard and managed to claw my way back to 9th. I was in a drag to the line with 8th and thought I had the inside but he blocked me so I went high. Missed out by 0.005s.

That gave a 1% boost so for the night only down 1%. Called it quits there.

Looking at the QT times of the night in my lobbies it looks like I need to get into the 1:46.6 and less to get into the cleaner air of the top 3.

I need to find 0.3 of a second.

I’m liking B race for the challenge of nipping away at the Qt on my friends list and then seeing how it translates to race results. Actually I enjoy the friendly battles quite a bit 😁

Spent most of my time split between trying for gold on the gr3 TT and failing miserably and trying to figure out what I was doing differently on Daytona by doing lots of laps and getting frustrated.

Finished that first glass of wine and had an epiphany that I was going in to corners too hot. Tried coming into all of the tight turns a little slower and voila a best time cutting .4 off my lap.
Second glass done and I decided I’d go see if I could be consistent with my newly realized error I had been making and went racing. Pre race laps and another best time knocking .1 and change off my lap. Started the night above 2k on the boards and ended at 1k which is an unheard of place for me to be.

New QT earned a p7 start, had a great race, no drama and p5 finish.
One and done. I’ll go sleep it off meow. No point farming tonight 🥱

Since I've mentioned qualifying numbers a couple of times, I figured I should give out the stats I have (this is now updated to the first Daily Races after the February update, so the first races are the ones where Race A and C were both Grand Valley), since they're really annoying to get. Note that numbers are all rounded up to the nearest 100.

Notes/observations:

  • There's a small decline there but other than a couple of outliers things look pretty stable. PD will be content with participation.
  • Race B is almost always more qualified-for than Race C, which surprised me.
  • The five most popular Race As are Gr.3, the first SSRX meme, the RA272, and two Gr.4 races (the only three Gr. Race As in this sample). The return to SSRX also did very well. In addition, the 32,900 crater in Race B is Alphard week. GT Daily Race players just don't like road car races it seems - it'll be interesting to see how the Radical gets on this week.
  • The two lowest Race Cs are Nurburgring 24h and Le Mans, so the theory that long tracks are offputting to people is backed up by this.
  • In general, high downforce races (Gr.1/Gr.2/SF) races also seem to do worse than Gr.3/4 races at a similar time.
  • Spa in the wet did pretty well though, so weather (on a non-long track) doesn't seem to be a limiting factor.
  • The really bad Race A is the Sambabus
Edited to add a few extra weeks of data.

Radical has totally changed my opinion of Road Atlanta. It's well made but I didn't think it was very racey before, it reminded me of Brands Hatch at first.

This week has completely flipped that though, it's such a fun drive in the Radical and the racing has been great if a little shovey at times and that's not exclusive to Atlanta after all.

It gives me TOCA 3 vibes and that is very welcome.

but since I got my new pedals my braking control has transformed.
So much for a level playing field. Wouldn’t this be called “pay to win” in other online games?
You can imagine how enjoyable it is getting stuck behind some loser in a slow car
Hang on, you‘re behind someone who is both a loser and has a slow car. What does that make you? 🤪
I had to change the "Exposure" video setting in the game so that I could see everything clearly enough.
I have the same problem. Appears to lose depth and seems flat, T1 especially.

I had originally typed Corvette driver, as Daytona HPDE events tend to attract guys who want to actually get their sports car up to high speeds they are designed for and not even close to practical on the local interstate. It wasn’t a fair comment as most of the corvette drivers are significantly faster than me. However, even in advanced group, there’s always someone holding up the show. Some people just can’t understand that others are faster than them in most sections of the track. Maybe calling them losers is a bit harsh.

The same thing happens in this game. Opponent is just fast enough to keep you behind, but when you finally make the pass your lap times start dropping quickly. I think we’ve all experienced that playing Sport Mode.

I think we have also experienced driving in front of someone who thinks they are faster than you even though you qualified with a faster time…….
Touché

However, race pace and qualifying time can vary greatly. I’ve certainly pulled off a miracle lap in qualy and had slower race pace than guys behind me. Of course part of that can be qualifying with the Meta and racing with something different. It’s part of what makes this game fun, IMO.

Totally agree - especially if want to practice the bus stop.
I was hoping My DR would not drop too much, but I lost 2%.
2% is nothing. It's the 5 and 5% loss that really hurts.
I shaved some time off my QT. Not enough to matter and I started 8th again.
This happened to me last week, and I was, well, tremendously disappointed is the best way I can put it. Late in the week I dropped .3 seconds off my QT, and got exactly 0 bump in my position in the next race. Totally sucked.

Race B has reached the point where I need a better QT but as is apt for me I set my best QT at the start of the week and then ingrain bad driving habits after that and can't progress. I need a 1:46.6 or better QT to get into top 4 starting positions in my class.

My optimal is there but my consistency is not.

My slight drop in qualifying time last night kept my even with my start grid position from Monday at p7. Would have been starting in p11 without the reduced time.

Feel very fortunate to have had all clean racing in B so far but only 3 races this week. My week to date total is only a fraction of what a lot of you guys do.

I do daily race B only and a number of times now when the race starts, I am the only car moving, and then after a few seconds that session quits. Anyone else get this?

If it's any consolation, having put in a 1:46.7 qualifying time, I have started in the top 4 about 5 times today and been smashed off from behind every time.

Last night I had about 4 clean good races in a row. Today - just 1 all day. Either I am now being paired with idiots, or the general driving standards have dropped significantly.

I don’t think so. You still have to develop skill within your left foot..which apparently isn’t taught anymore. Also, the pad’s trigger’s rumble, providing traction feedback. Gt7 does not provide this feedback to pedal users..or i would have bought the v3’s months ago(kinda miffed about that!)

Besides, some of us just can’t use the controller intensely for more than 15-30min. I used a knife in 30F for a couple decades,so my hands are 💩, and while i can drive with a wheel for hours, the controller ruins me.

The wheel isn’t a given either. If i muck up the settings it can feel like driving a bumper car at the beach. Presently, im oscillating between @Abarth_71 ‘s settings and @TechnoIsLove ’s. They are distinctly different. Yet both fast. Techno’s has the weight and feel i’d prefer to race with, yet abarth’s gives much better feedback, when it comes to traction, and is easier to be faster consistently. Point is, you can very easily pay a lot of money to suck 😝

The new pedals have not made me faster, not noticeably anyway. I could drive as fast with the last set but the feel and consistency is better. It feels more like a proper car with the right degree of squish in the application of force.

Kriptical is right in that you still have to develop the technique to maximize your braking and while easier now, I still don't always get it right. At the end of the day, I'm a hack and if spending the $$ on nicer pedals make it easier for me to drive then I am okay with that. I know that there are much more highly skilled drivers out there that would crush me on a controller (couldn't use that to save my life) or ragged old standard G29s...

Monday was nice. I had two really clean races and wish I had time to carry on. I think you are right, as the week progresses, more drive so there is more chance to get the idiots.

Fair comments and points well made.
The new pedals have not made me faster, not noticeably anyway. I could drive as fast with the last set but the feel and consistency is better.
This was what I was referring to, not your outright speed. I have watched many streamers who use peddles and they generally seem to be able to leave their braking far later than I can with a controller. I therefore assumed that “better” peddles would assist in that respect.

Isn‘t consistency more preferable to outright one lap speed in a race?

I think the main issue at Daytona T1 is that in traffic you can't see the braking marker most people use in TT (the last white centre line) as soon as there are cars in front it becomes a guessing game for a lot of people.

It's also worth saying that it's a very very small window braking from 170mph down to 1st gear that also requires braking through a kink/with some lock on. So missing it by 5 feet and factoring reaction time the stopping distance is much greater and possibly occupied by another car....

I'm a benefit of the doubt guy at this track because of the above.

That said so far this week B has been good for me, on the cusp of A again and quite a few wins/top 5s.

Of course there are the idiots every week and every track though...so not everyone gets the benefit of the doubt :)

I don't think that's the marker most people use - as far as I'm aware most people use the flag board sticking out of the fence on the right hand side, like you do at the bus stop. At least that's what I was always taught.

Possibly but Tidgny and Rory use the white line in the lap guides. Not sure what MCA and Kie use to be fair.

I've always know it to be the end of the last white line?

There is no right or wrong on these things as people pick there own so quite possibly it is the flag light board the same as it is for in to the bus stop?

On laps 2, 3 and 4 I use the final edge of the last line as my marker on T1. First lap, since I am usually heading into it in 4th gear (rather than 6th) I tend to wait a bit more.

Now admire my EPIC paint skills 😂 😂

Indeed, this is why I may qualify with TCS0 (and might crash out every 3rd lap) but in the race I do TCS1.

I never realized that is there.

Still, I'll admit that for most tracks, this one included, I used the recommended braking assist (give or take some adjustment). For Turn 1, it is actually spot on, that requires you to do just a bit of trail braking in the last kink. It works for me.

I tried to use no assists on this track, using the last center white line, and that is okay but I do have a habit of missing certain spots. I know I need to improve on that area.

So how many people here still use track assists?

I don't usually use any of the visual assists in the game but do obviously use ABS and occasionally TC1 in a race if I'm dialling my foot in or just sloppy with a particular car.

It's a personal thing but I found both the apex markers and the braking zone indicated misleading and also don't adapt to the relative speed and angle of the car.

Also I can't do with all the visual clutter when there are on track or trackside details I can use my periphery vision on.

I'm getting sloooowly more comfortable with the wheel.... I followed @Tidgney 's guide for Race C and took 1.5 seconds off my previous time - think I'm at a 1.31.2?? with up to half a second more if I get a perfect lap (unlikely!) That double-tap gear change is a bit hit'n'miss for me.

As for Race A and B, both tracks I've never been remotely competitive at, but due to the nature of the braking areas and turns I am finding them easier using a wheel and pedals instead of triggers and motion control.
