Back in the saddle after not playing since May. Trial Mountain/Mount Panorama are both incredibly fun tracks. Game feels a wee bit different. Spun the Porsche and AMG out a lot yesterday at Bathurst. How's the racing at Trial Mountain?
Trial mtn was a blast yesterday. Definitely elbows out, but easier to avoid catastrophe than Bath, given the wider track. Fortunately, both B and C seem long enough this week.
Ps: don’t mind the lack of pitting this week. Its good to have a couple rippers once in a while.

Haven't had a good spin like this in a while!

Not sure what happened, I braked a little extra and early to give the car in front some space and it just unbalanced the car big time and off I went.

Wonder what that's like in VR :ill:

It could be because your right side tires briefly touched the grass at the kink. Maybe

I did one Bathhurst after work yesterday.
I used the Mustang, and it is fast on the straights, but just so-so in the turns.

I started 14th, in the top split race (all A & A+) with no Q time. At the start of the final lap, I was in 8th, with a shot at 7th.
Coming to the line, at the end of lap 4, I had a momentum advantage on the Genesis in front of me.
I tried to get alongside him, on the right. Right then, his car moved to the right. I got knocked into the wall, and ended up with a damaged front end, and a damaged right front wheel. Three cars took advantaged of my crippled car, and I ended up 11th.
I'm not sure if the other driver meant to hit me. Either way, it was a learning experience.

I can usually do okay at that track, but I probably can't win. I think this week, I'll try it in all the cars that I never use.
It's good to have a reminder of each car's characteristics. Maybe there are some that are better than I recall.

It also looks to me like there's a slight dip in the track just before you lose it. So at that point the front wheels would have initially gone light, but then got extra grip as the weight drop towards the track, whilst at the same time the rear wheels would be going light as they reach the start of the dip. Combine that with the fact you turned in a bit later than normal and I expect you still have a little right lock on as you hit the brakes.

Not as spectacular as you might think. Crashes seem to happen too quickly to really take in what's happening in VR, the most notable feature of crashing in VR is the sudden headset vibration when you hit something hard.

Well still don't think I will have time for races but I did jump on for some QT to give this a try.

Daily Race A

Wow, the cart has twitchy handling. However it is fun to learn how to drive it. Turning FFB to 10 helped load up the wheel making it harder to over turn and that helped a lot. I'm not sure if my time is all that great at the moment with a time in the 1:01.005 but if this was a ranked race I would be tempted to hang out there for a bit and learn the cart some more; as it is unranked I am less inclined to put in th effort. On a funny note when you chase your ghost the cart in front is a zombie cart with no driver.

Daily Race B

I am traditionally terrible at Brathurst. My first times were 2:16 ish and even with some effort I was still 2:11. So far off pace and not one I could have raced. Gradually with the Supra and an hour of driving I got it down to 2:08.3 something. Having worked my way through my regular car selection I looked at the leader board again and saw @Gearbanger (you're Deputy_Fishtail right?) out near top with a lone RCZ. I've driven that car before and found it good handling but never that quick but I gave it a go. Wham! First try I was within a few hundredths of my prior QT. After some more laps/sessions I dropped it to a 1:28.008. Thank you Gearbanger for finding this car. It is my new favorite for this track.

After that I thought I would give the car a new livery. I'm not one for logo/sponsor splashed liveries; I like a clean looking car. I came up with this and I think it looks sick. :)

I then took this for a drive and set a new QT. Down to a 2:07.844.

I posted my replay (search for gtp31). Ideally I would still like to find another second (don't we always? :D) but considering where I started I feel this drive is reasonably proficient for my DR standing.

Daily Race C

I have not done this on my US account yet but tried it on GB. I must be the odd duck here as I really like Trail Mountain in the reverse direction (or perhaps it was just that combo with the Gr.3 R.S.01?). I'm not that keen on the normal flow and I have trouble finding a good time. I'm currently 2:01.929 (in a Supra) but I think I would need another 1-1.5s ideally.

Out of race B and C if I could I think I would focus on B this week. Definitely looks like the most fun and potential for carnage!

Back to B after a 13th to 6th at Bathurst. Well it is statistically my 2nd best track and I love driving there.
Hopefully I can stay here now before the next GTWS.

It seemed that there was a few people off at McPhillamy Park on lap 1 and the same during @Tidgney's weekly race guide.
I've never seen it before and now 2 for 2 in terms of me being invested in a race. Strange.

Where would it be documented?

It's been observable over time anyway, if you have raced around the levels. Low ranked lobbies have ghosting practically on every corner whereas high B lobbies don't at all unless it's a heavy braking zone like mulsanne corner. Don't know about A and above but I'm assuming none at all on the top lobbies with exceptions of spins perhaps.

I was just wondering if it's something "official" or not. I have just about one hundred races in my belt, and I'm living mostly in DR C, so I don't have that big of a sample set.
It's happens to me quite infrequently to see people ghosted under braking, while I see more often when they loose the car and start spinning or when they re-enter unsafely the track. Unless they are really really late (and sometime not even there), they just ram the whole crowd in front of them. I recall just once, in Trial Mountain reverse an "anomalous" ghost usage, by the way not at the first breaking zone, approaching the chicane after the main straight, but at the second turn, or the second half of that chicane, if you want to call it that way.

Ooer! Can't even blame that on another driver 🤔

Good to see you in the race this afternoon - don't often see fellow GTPers in race!

Been enjoying Bathurst - had a 4th a 3rd and a 1st yesterday, a 2nd a 3rd and a 4th today (trending the wrong way now - the effect of a higher DR after yesterday presumably).

I think my total number of races this week will be around zero 🫣 Can't get anywhere close to a competitive time for the A/ A+ lobbies the game puts me in 🤐 And this is for both Race B and C 😵⚰️

I've seen race replays where their times are 3 to 4 seconds faster than my qualy times, which is even more shocking to me...

Well, guessing I have to hope for events which suits my style next week then! Good luck, lord knows I would need plenty of it lol 💩

another week where I am unusually competitive in Race B. Race C... not so much.

I recall a thread some time ago where people listed their favorite tracks and trial mtn was on nearly everyone's list. Except mine. I've never found the flow there. I also can;t seem to drive Gr.4 like I can Gr3,2,1. So dead last in my race there. I'll work on the QT but if I can't improve, you'll find me in Race B again. (i've driven the genesis and 911 in-race and q'd the RC for similar pace)

So three weeks in a row and I excel at Gr3/Race B and average to mediocre in the race C. I like the longer formats, so I don't want to become just a sprint guy! I need to work on those; gazoo this weekend will be a good test. Except I also can't find the speed in the supra that everyone else seems to!

Kie mentioned wind being a factor in qualifying. Try to get wind at your tail along the straight. Was able to get a low 2:06 yesterday with the 911 and will probably try the Mustang today. The AMG 20' is nice as well, feel like I can get that one in the 2:05s but it's unruly in a few areas, specifically the last two corners and the hairpin that starts the mountain.

If I can be competitive with the Stang I'll use it for sure.

Don't give up! In Race B qualifying there are 2 categories of cars for me: the "~2:08" and the "~2:05".

Get the "~2:05" (RSR/RX Vision/GT-R '18) 😏.

The Porsche RSR is the best IMO. I don't know how people can fly with the Supra.

I've always avoided Mount Panorama because of my difficulties in that middle/downhill sector, but I think I'll be able to figure it out with enough qualifying. When I do get through there decently it's quite satisfying. I've only been able to run about 6 laps and get a 2:08.1 or something so far, but I'm certain I can drop it into the 2:06 or lower range with repetition.
For the start of the esses, just basically aim straight down the hill, making sure you keep one set of tires on the track - you don't need to do much, if any turning. If you coast down that part, you should be going slow enough to be able to brake before the right-hand turn and keep everything under control. Just don't panic, or you're done for.

Caveat: That advice is from the other times I've raced Mount Panorama - not sure it's completely viable in Gr.3 cars, but I think it is. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.

The 911 made my evening...initially she doesn't seems eager to be fast on this track but in 5min of practice you'll appreciate her, she hardly makes you spin in the Esses!
But you already have a great QT!
I'm not sure about a great QT, but I'll give the Porsche another chance. I feel like the Supra is more stable for me, but I'm not married to it.
This morning I had different feelings about it, but after some practice I'm appreciating
I learned last week (or re-learned something I had forgotten) that once I know the track better and can drive it reasonably competently, my opinion of the track almost always improves. Which sounds like a no-brainer now that I see it in writing.

That's the reason why I keep asking from friday every week if anyone knows anything about the next planned track...I usually took 30min on sunday night to do the track experience or how that's called, just to refresh my poor knowledge :D
But we have to admit that Mount Panorama is quite different from the other tracks, if every user would be driving clean it would probably be one of the most funny of GT

Bathurst is a track that visually shines on GT7 compared to how it was in Sport.

I hated it on Sport. Textures were poor. Lighting was weird. Bright blue skybox gave it more a feel of Marioworld 3D than the real race track.

The updated sky models on GT7 and the lighting / cloud cover / time of day they've given it this week are stunning. it's very close to photo realistic, especially with the improved textures, draw distance and added trackside as well as track surface details.

I know there's a couple of recent transfers over from Sport, I hope you have had that wow moment.

Track does look amazing, must admit! I transitioned to '7 a bit more than a month ago but am still on a PS4 Pro. Not QUITE the night/day difference but still impressive. Even more impressive, though, is that it drives the same, and that's a good thing. 😁

Have thrown a couple different cars at it thus far. Just got the Pig livery so had to take the 911 out and then the Mustang. Mercedes hustles there, too. The best I've done so far is a 2:06.2xx and that was in the Ford GT. Need some more laps, though. Still want to get the Evo and Genesis out for some laps, too.

Speaking of the 911, am I alone in thinking that this is the equivalent of a Swiss Army knife for racetracks?? I mean, I don't know that it's the FASTEST available car for any of the courses, but it seems to be capable of going fast EVERYWHERE.

EDIT: OH, the Karting simply does NOT disappoint, lol.

Yep. It’s me.
Glad you found the RCZ favorable for a better lap time.
It can hit over 270 kph if you launch off the hill right.

Im with you, i love the reverse trial mountain layout!

A good day for my standard on QT, improved Mount Panorama to 2:07:362 with the 911, I'm pretty happy but I feel that I could shave something and go under the :07 but would need time.
Did a couple of races, as I said I love the track but it's impossible to race in this conditions in it, everytime I'm in a good position someone just touch me while turning and I go to the wall...in the first I was "lucky", being 3rd at the last lap a guy slapped me in the rear and I went in the grass - finished 7th, next race similar situation but this time they did it twice and I finished 14th...so I stopped and moved on to some grinding on LeMans 30min

Mount Panorama should be called Mount Ramorama. People are having no qualms about just plowing into people in front of them. Sure, some of them are accidents, but after looking at the replays, a lot of them are just "I don't give a **** about anyone in front of me."

This really sucks, because I was on a high from last week. But the 5 races I've had this week have completely and totally sucked, 75% due to ******** and 25% due to this one behind the wheel.

I'm sure I'll try some more, but honestly, driving with people who have no consideration of other people on the track isn't my idea of fun.

Quoting every single word of this, thinking about trying the go-kart in race A and give a shot at the time trial until next week....it's a pity because it would have been the most adrenalinic race of sport mode of the last months

Mt. Panorama seems more suited to Gr.4 than Gr.3. At least from what I remember. Had a lot of good battles and clean racing the Gr.4s a few months back. The only car I can keep on the track is the 911.

Monday's races were a bit rubbish for me, so I put in a bit more qualifying time on Trial Mountain and found 6 tenths to try and improve my grid position. It didn't, I started in 10th, same as Monday's race.

First race didn't start well. On the way to the first corner my VR decided it couldn't see the room any more and I had a button clicking panic attack trying to sort it out. Finally got back into the game exiting the first tunnel, but pointing sideways in my seat. So had to pause it on the back straight to, well, straighten it out and finally got sorted and back in the game in 16th! I actually had a good race from there and managed to pull it back to 10th, so I thought I better try again.

Started 13th this time (what is going on with my lobbies?) but had an absolutely amazing race. Full respect to everyone I came across, it was tight and close, with battles pretty much every lap and almost completely contact free. I gained myself 7 places to finish in 6th really close behind 5th, beat my quali time in the race by another 0.6 secs, and just had a great time.

Maybe I will regret this post but did you already try a Time Trial? You're really fast and noone can harm you during hot lapping. Among my friends you will list above me for sure... Congrats and greetings!

This week it's only race B for me as the GR.4 cars at trial mountain feel soo slow.

Back again at SR S and getting consistently decent results by averaging 3rd place :) still some outliers due to getting pushed off (why do people move under braking?) but I but I manage to stay calm and not follow the sinster temptation to punish the offenders myself as I see quite often others do.

I adapted my driving style, now being more conservative and not going for half-assed moves anymore, so many more clean race bonuses than before. There are many faster people than me but more often than not they crash somewhere in the mountain which leads to a net gain after double-digit race count.

I have also found that many are easily driven into mistakes by simply staying on the racing line while they are defending the inside. I have stopped counting how often they brake and end up in the wall or off the track. A very satisfying feeling to gain positions in this fair way.

Lastly my first win in ages :) Thewhit and black cars went into turn 2 together and exited slow, opening a gap for me. White Porsche outbreaked himself; black Genesis unfortunately got punted from behind (yes really) which opened the inside line perfectly.

I have no idea where this laptime came from, over half a second faster than my previous PB 😱 I guess the tailwind on Conrad Straight gave a helping hand, there is no more satisfying circuit on this game when you get a clean lap.
Can you share your replay in-game so I can use it as a ghost? It's a nice feeling to hunt a ghost from someone in this forum :)
