I haven't played any DR this week because I've been busy packing for an holiday. Today, I decided to hop onto a race and I chose Spa. Little did I know I was about to make a tutorial on how to go from SR S to B in a few corners.

The first few corners were dry and nobody was skiding around, but as we reached Les Combes everyone was faced with their imminent demise.

How often are the races wet? Does it usually pay to start off with intermediates?

Edit-I should have read that you only just started on that for the week. Doh.

Race C this week, in group B/S is absolutely toxic! Yet again another one of these weeks at a track/combo that just seems to invite every lunatic under the sun. How the hell most of these people are still SR rated 'S' is quite beyond me.
There should definitely be a visual indicator for anybody who has a 99/99 SR score. It would be a good starting point for guessing who you can trust in a lobby. I think the 'instant-gratification' crowd would benefit also, because you know, they love little visual flairs!

Did a race tonight at SPA and then moved to TT and Sardegna grinding....started 9th, was 6th during the third lap when the usual great guy appeared to start banging from behind my car at every corner...second day in a row that I find user like this.
No way, crashed to the wall and took a 00:500 penalty for track limits while crashing, finished 13th.
Called it a day.
Trying again tomorrow, but probably moving to Race C next week cause B is getting wild

…now I know that I’m barely making it into top split as one of the few lowly “A” guys. But Geezus. These WT players are very dirty. Pace-wise, they’re a cut above me, and it’s amazing how they just slowly walk away from you over the course of the race. But my god, they know every trick in the book to force their way through, without getting penalties. Trying to build this account to A+ for FIA. But I almost don’t want any part of it, if the lobbies are this bad.

To be fair, I know they’re probably more liberal in their “push to pass” tactics, mainly because I’m not A+…. I get it. But man, it’s pretty damn sweaty in those lobbies

Ran a couple B races this afternoon and had a lot of fun. Folks were mostly clean and I got my first taste of weather. Waaaay more interesting than anticipated. First race started P6, dropped to P8 on the first lap thanks to bad driving/race nerves. Was able to make it back to where I started with some clean driving/passes and felt pretty good about that one. Second race is where it got fun...

Went out for practice and nothing but Sahara-type dry. Cool. Grid loads and wipers are on. Not Cool. As we're lining up, wipers go off auto-magically so I'm thinkin' I still gots a chance. Made it through the first lap with nothing, but laps 2/3/4 were a whole different story. I was NOT expecting 'showers' to show up at random spots on the track at all. That is freaking awesome. Only issue for me being that I'm bumper cam'd so I figured out it was raining as I was sliding off the track...as were a bunch of us, luckily. Ended P5 in that one. Sadly a bit tarnished by an inadvertent body slam coming out of a turn...lost the back of the car as another driver was passing on the outside and it just didn't work out (rain + Viper on RH's = 🤕). I apologized afterwards and got the "Thanks for the clean race!" snark. Understandable. Acknowledge, move on.

Was not expecting rain to be sporadic/scattered. Coupled with it moving around throughout the race really does make it something special. Lovin' it!

@A_Higher_Place - was that you in my lobby for Race A, with @appu ? It dawned on me that your name was familiar. Good race! Well Done!

Looks like it was, yes! Thanks for the shout! The Ra272 is my favourite car to drive in game by far. This daily A has me addicted. Once @appu mentioned that that Michael guy was a big deal, I had to try and beat him!

I really wasn't expecting 12 laps of Interlagos to be the race that grabbed me this week. The typical punt fest of it means I generally don't bother with it but it seems the extra laps allow the race to really open up and my ability to be very, very consistent here over 12 laps has a chance to shine, putting me right up the order into a row of top 5's in B lobbies so far.

My 1 lap pace isn't great but I will just hammer those braking points each and every lap which it seems a lot of others struggle to do and spin out or get themselves caught up in the petty battling.

Giving us a choice between a med no stop and a soft-soft 1 stop would have been nice but it's solid as it is!

Longer races means people feel less pressure to elbow their way to the front. PD needs to understand this. 6-8 Laps Group 4 and 12-14 Laps Gr.3 would make much better racing. The field settles out and you end up having great battles with the guys at your level.

Is there any consensus on whether oil status affects the performance of a vehicle under BoP in Sport Mode? I've seen varying opinions.

I took a few runs at Race B last night and I was having difficulty matching my usual pace, even in qualifying laps. I figured I was just getting tired and sloppy. When I was done for the night, though, I happened to check the car in the garage and saw that the oil status was 'Bad'. Would this explain my slower times?

I don't think it does, but then I didn't think the oil status deteriorated in the dailies, but mine has been this week! That's in cars that I've only used in the dailies too.

It definitively does not - BoP resets a cars performance to fully default values. This includes everything from tuning to oil etc.
Unfortunately, you were just tired and sloppy :P

Could it have been the wind direction affecting the lap times?

I'm glad you posted this. I hope what I'm posting here isn't too boring...

A few months ago when Race C was at Bathhurst, I got my main account to DR A. (Apparently Bathhurst is the ONLY track I can win races at).

Knowing I wasn't quick enough to compete in A lobbies at any other track, I just switched to my 2nd account which is was in my natural habitat of DR B. I was there happily for months until last week... at Bathurst race B. I won more races last week I have ever done since GT7 was released, and about a year prior playing GT sport. So my 2nd account goes up to DR A.

I did one race C at Interlagos on Monday amongst A and A+ players and just felt I was in people's way (very rude and entitled people, by the feel of it). One race, so its not like I was up to speed, but I just felt I was braking 3 seconds before anyone else. One guy destroyed me, presumably because I wasnt braking at the exact same place at every corner he was in his very different car

I'm gonna give it a go at weekend and no doubt my DR will back to where it should be. But I've got a feeling its going to be a process of self abuse and not very enjoyable.

And I know 'git gud' is the answer to avoid this here, but some of us know the ceiling to our talents lol.

Anyhoo, hope everyone is having a good week...

I don’t know what the deal was yesterday. Because I was racing all the same guys on Monday, and I was clearly able to hold my own

IMG_3568.png

But yesterday, all the top guys were just blowing right through me. Going for gaps that aren’t there, running me off the track on exits, dive bombing the daylights out of me. Just every dirty trick you can think of. In the end, all the guys who were the worst, are top split FIA racers whom I’ll never see in a lobby, regardless if I get back to A+ or not. And not that I care - being that I do this for fun, but it was kind of a bummer just repeatedly being shoved aside.

Then I occasionally get dropped from top split to a normal A/S lobby, and I win by 12 seconds.

Idk…maybe yesterday was just an outlier. It was just weird to have such clean racing ON A MONDAY, then have it degrade into melee on Wednesday

I congratulate you on those consistent race times, after 12 laps both within 0.5s of each other.

Can I get some feedback on a bump? Decided to try the 650S in race B last night, and it feels great at Spa. I lightly bumped someone at turn one (first lap), and would have probably surrendered the position back, but then another car was right on my ass and between us for the rest of the lap.

Thoughts? Seems like a racing incident to me, but I’m curious on your opinions. Bear in mind, this is a C lobby. Sometimes I get bumped to B, but B lobbies are absolute carnage every time I’m in..

That looked relatively harmless.
In terms of bad things that can happen in Gr.3 daily racing, that would register at about a 1 out of 10.

I think I read something in the last patch notes about this... I think it does since Monday.

Could it have been the wind direction affecting the lap times?
It has to be the wind direction. I'm constantly using my old ghosts in qualifying to check the difference, especially on the long straight after Eau Rouge, and what I noticed is that all my 2:31-2:32 ghost laps have been recorded with a different wind direction than the one in the screenshot below (don't look at lap 3 and 4, I messed up). This is the best to get speed on that straight. South west.
I couldn't understand how my 2:33-2:31 QT could be so bad compared to the other players in AS. Now I think I do.

Based on Race A info from Nen (confirming A is the Copen) and based on the rest of the tracks and tyre info, I believe next weeks races are a direct copy of this weeks from 2 months ago.

@Tidgney - PD may have saved you a job whilst you're away :D

As much as i liked that GR3 race at RBR, it seems kind of whack to just recycle an exact format from 2 months ago.

A victory at this week's Race A at Suzuka at last, taking me to a total of 11 victories. I kept getting so close to victory many times in this Race A but kept landing second due to either being rear ended or due to someone else being too fast and winning (I am looking at you @A_Higher_Place). Thankfully not everyone practiced enough number of times to set a qualifying lap ahead of me despite being clearly faster than me (like @icycls).

In one race, I finally started pole for first time, with @sturk0167 in my race. Unfortunately, the guy in second was a bit too eager, resulting in a series of incidents with me, thus I couldn't win that race. Sorry sturk0167 for not replying post-race as I was a little flustered.

The next race, I was second with the pole sitter's lap being a second faster than me. The pole sitter had set 1:10.881. At least it was not as fast as a time I saw in another race (1:09.8xx).

The guy in second from previous race was running 3rd and unfortunately did rear end me once again into T2 while the pole sitter slid away at T1. But luckily I could continue without a problem. The pole sitter made another mistake at the hairpin, crashing into the wall, and I cruised to the victory with clean race bonus. No beef with that rear-ender. As icing on the cake, he congratulated me for the win. :D

Congrats on your victory! Well-earned result for consistency!

hahaha, thanks for that ego boost, but, no, I wouldn't say 'clearly faster'. Your results are what happens when you love a combo and put the time in.

My race 'career' has one clear pattern - Clean, consistent races with just slightly above average results. I can somehow usually avoid or minimize the 'disaster' races. The dr trickles up slowly, but steadily. I have 2000+ races in at this point (and an embarrasingly low percentage of wins, I aim for top 5 or at least top 8 more than the wins).

There's no doubt you'll be a solid A racer, if you care or want it.

This is so dumb. I really don't understand why PD makes these choices. If it's bopped it should be the same for everyone. People are reloading their qualifying lobby to get better wind.. wth. This is some serious misplaced "realism".

Lobbies is different part of the game to Daily races.
I have been driving this week with worn out race cars in Race B, it puts the power back to full BOP specs.

I echo this but with fewer races. My top 5 finishes are greater than 50% and I float around in mid-to-high DR B range. If I had the time I could maybe manage low A level depending on the week.

Like you, I never seem to find the disaster daily Bs that everyone seems to mention. Either I'm not racing enough (likely) or am extremely lucky.
