Wait so you can get rain?! I haven't been in one yet. Perhaps for the shorter races it should be a fixed rain arrangement.
I've had one 'slightly damp' race - I put inters on as the map showed heavy rain nearby and there were a few drops of rain at the start/finish line. Rain never developed - and i'm sure it never actually moved on the radar?? And I went from 3rd to 10th as everyone else was on dry tyres :scared: In another race there was high intensity rain alongside the circuit but again, it never moved.

==========

Wheel news...

I'm getting closer to being A/S again after a big drop to low B while getting aquainted with using a wheel. I now find my self more competitive at Spa and Interlagos - particularly with tyre wear at Interlagos. They're both tracks I enjoyed on the controller but I was always a bit slow. I can now take better lines, brake later and achieve more consistent laps. I think it's the braking making the biggest change - using a trigger, I was always braking too heavily where I didn't need to. I'm currently using the loadcell brake at 50% force and using Kie's settings for the force feedback.

I think I could be decently competitive in Race B this week, if only work would stop offering me OT money and taking up all of my time to race!

How are those of you partaking in Race B finding it this week?

Yes it can. At least I had one yesterday evening on my secondary account. When entering the lobby, rain drops were clearly visible in the background. During warm-up, you could see the "rain meter" was at around 1/3 so I went for inters. At the start of the race, the rain meter was as high as 2/3. The radar was still fixed and the clouds/rain didn't change over the whole race. As you can see, only half the lobby noticed the rain. Most left, some changed their tyres. All in all, it was really entertaining and challenging, for someone who is absolutely not used to driving in the rain.

Highs and Lows....as always.
Started the evening session as B-S, ended as C-A.
First race was pretty ok, started 15th finished 10th cause I have a rather high QT for B lobby 1:33:450 if I remember well - something like that with the 458 at SPA, but then in the second race a user decided to slow down waiting for someone to crash with and...that happened to be me, it just closed to the right in straight line while I was overtaking so I ended up touching his rear corner taking a 3 sec penalty while flying to the wall.
Insane algorithm, he should have been penalized!
But....GT works like this.
So ended last, back to C and A.

In C I did two races, started 7th and finished 2nd...I'm back at a smidgen from B, but I honestly don't know if I wanna be back, I struggle in B...I'm in a limbo between the two ranking, I have fun in C and I struggle to survive in B.
Need a clean race to gain the S back, is fundamental.

Yeah no one can survive the intense rain in Spa without getting wet tires in the pit. Yeah, their penalty system is out of whack. Depends on what the track limits are.

Race C is getting to me.

It’s a riddle, wrapped up in an enigma.

Yesterday, in one race there was one ”pitter”. He went in leading, came out 8th and finished 6th. Everyone else and I stayed out. Ran on the rims for the last two laps and finished 2nd.

Second race, the leader pitted on lap 5. At the end of lap 6, the new 1st & 2nd decided to pit……which led to everyone else bar the last two to also pit. The unfortunates who stayed out were swiftly caught & passed by the entire field leading to them both hitting the exit button. Initial leader now back in front leading the same train that was behind him before he pitted. Status quo restored.

It strikes me that this race can change strategically every time it is run. Also:

A good grid position is a must. Less mayhem at the front.

Watch out for nefarious brake checks just shy of the
“normal” turn in on T1. Saw someone do this twice in my race 2, one of which was to me. The perp gets a punt boost back to normal speed and you get an abrupt stop coupled with a 2 second penalty!

Car choice CRITICAL. Set up your own practice lobby to find your best Q car and also your best tyre wear runner for the Medium tyres as they are not necessarily one & the same.

Be prepared to change your race strategy on the fly.

Most of all, have fun and try not to pull your hair out, nor murder someone on track :)

Last night I had two B races with a lot of shoving but tonight’s 2 races went well with good close racing throughout.

First race I started p12 and finished p10 for equal points so definitely a stronger lobby than my rank.

Second race I brought my time down by .4 and started p7 moved up to p6 on lap 3 and held on for p6 finish in a super tight lobby with clean racing thankfully. It was a great fight for p6 but must have been a more middle of the road lobby with only a 200 point pickup for p6.

no rain but I did make sure to check the rain gauge in warm up each time.
Checking my tires before racing tonight I realized that I didn’t have intermediate or wet purchased for my car so it would have been a bitch to see rain and not have tires available lol 😂

Tip: make sure you have your wet weather tires available before going to race 👍

Only had a single run at Interlagos last night. I was a bit confused my my practice times weren't as quick as normal, but when the lobby loaded up, I realised I was on the medium rather than the soft. Oh well, ready for the race at least, but I was starting 14th so this could be interesting!

It turned out to be brilliant fun. I kept careful and clean for the first few laps, picked up a couple of places as fights happened ahead. When it had settled down a bit I set to getting some quick laps without stressing the tyres too much and caught up to the next group. About 3 or 4 cars headed into the pits leaving me watching a group fighting ahead. Managed to narrowly avoid a couple of incidents and make a nice pass or two to find myself 5th with 2 laps to run and the tyres in decent shape. Got past 4th and onto the tail of 3rd by the end of the final lap. Had a nice run on 3rd out of the final turn but he kept the inside and made me go the long way round. I was side by side down the straight and showing third halfway to the line, but he came back just before the finish to take it by 0.5s.

It was one of those (very!) rare days where you just hit the right rhythm and going quick feels easy. It also bumped me up into the top half of B which is the highest I've been so far. I wonder how long that will last! 😁

I had 4 races yesterday, and they were great. I've just bought a Wheel and Pedal setup, and transitioning to that from controller so finding it very difficult at the moment, and have dropped to DR-C.

I was in C/S lobbies yesterday as I tried to get faster with the wheel, and they were brilliant - far cleaner than B/S for some reason. I had some crashes and a couple of poor results, but they were all my own doing learning the wheel! The other drivers were very respectful.

I recently got a wheel too and dropped from mid A to very low B - I initially thought I'd never get the hang of it but I'm creeping back up now.

Race A is fun with the wheel - I don't think I'd complete a lap if I went back to controller 😂

I'm sure they'll nuke its handling at some point like they did the Hyundai Gr3 but man the RCZ is just a joy to drive right now. Takes on the slow part of Interlagos middle sector with such stability that it's a breeze to get through. Gives up on top end but the handling is just so good, especially in traffic which is where you tend to end up there.

No messing, put your foot down it goes, hit the brakes it stops. Really recommend for anyone looking to just fling something around there with little concern.

I'm enjoying the variety in race B. I just wish they made the starting weather radar visible on the pre-race screen somewhere; each rainy race I've done ends up with 4 or 5 cars quitting by Les Combes, because not everyone remembers they have to get into their car and check the radar during the 30 second warmup to see the conditions.

I agree - set my best QT with it, haven't tried it in the race yet. It's usually pretty easy on tyres though, and the handling doesn't change dramatically as the tyres wear down.

Hey guys! What is this and how they get it?

I still had some tyres left by the end of lap 12 and was still getting good times (for me) I tried BRZ once and the tyres were only half worn but I was probably not pushing very hard as still learning the wheel.

911s were most popular and won every race I've been in so far.

I saw you on the livestream with PHG_Papa for this one. I was hoping to watch you and Papa go at it, but he ended up crashing shortly after you got by him.

I did a couple races last night. Got punted in Pouhon and ruined Race 1. Race 2 was in the rain and I managed to make my way up to P2 from a P8 start. Got too conservative on lap 3 and got passed going into Les Combes. Should’ve had a solid P3 finish but got hit on the last lap going into Stavelot. I’m generally happy with a P5 or better finish, so I’ll take it.

I was looking at a video when GT7 first came out (you know what it’s like when you fall down the rabbit hole and some time later you notice it’s gone dark :))

Anyway, I came across an old post from @Redneckchef and I think its content is more relevant today than it ever was. Hope the author doesn’t mind me repeating it:

I barged into GT Sport thinking I knew what I was doing. Played a couple of weeks, entered a race A. And promptly got LAPPED.

Took me a while to recover from that and get up the nerve to race again, and worry about looking like a fool. Then I realized a lot of people don't even care how bad they look. It's ok to not want to make the mistakes or ruin someone else's race, but mistakes are gonna happen no matter what, so just remember to apologize. You are just as likely to have your race damaged by someone else as you are to do it on your own so go ahead and give it a go, in small steps.

Another option is to look for lobbies in the multi-player where it is race for fun. Often a good chance to meet fellow drivers and learn tips in an environment where people are more relaxed as well and no one has ratings damaged. Racing in some lobbies definitely taught me a lot about improving my driving and gave me the confidence to do more side by side racing.

All in all it's supposed to be fun. I still get nervous and my heart races before every race, but I just work to race as best I can and if I make a mistake learn from it or at least hope it gives me a clip worth laughing at.

We've all started somewhere.
Maybe in these days of breakneck pace, lack of respect & minimal social interaction its worth revisiting the reasons why we all started playing in the first place.

Hej,
I usually don't like the daily races but cannot resist if it is at Spa... Group 4 ist also nice and so I gave it a try. C/S lobbies for me, too and most people took care. It was surprisingly good fun.

I took the Cayman for a spin and had to realize that I didn't buy wet tires for this car as I usually drive the 650S or 488. So it was literally a short spin... 🤕

lol. Yeah, that race was fun even finishing p10. Starting in the middle of the chicane is definitely not ideal but you’ve got to make the best of it and it gives incentive to get a better qualifying time.

Nice work on your racing ! Sounds like you picked up on the track conditions for the rainy go at it.
Definitely makes a difference like always when you race with respectful competitors vs being in trashy lobbies.

Have fun out there. 🍻

This is me exactly. Although I haven’t done a daily race in a couple weeks, I’ve been bounced back down to C from B where I am more competitive and pretty happy with my results. But in the spirit of trying to get better, I’m aiming to claw my way back to B (having difficulties) where I tend to finish 12th or so And sometimes frustrated.

Race C this week, in group B/S is absolutely toxic! Yet again another one of these weeks at a track/combo that just seems to invite every lunatic under the sun. How the hell most of these people are still SR rated 'S' is quite beyond me.

Also, don't you think that PD miscalculated on the tyre wear? What's the point of tyre options if everyone can go the whole distance (only just) on the 'required' tyre..?

Ha! this thought occurred to me too, but only after I had done a couple races and a handful of q runs! I didn't even know weather was a factor until I read it here., never saw anything but sunshine.

Spending most of my time in C and A. Interlagos is relentless, the track never lets up, no 'rest' sections. A constant push for pace through 12 laps while managing tires. Good fun, but can only do one or two a night from its intensity. I need a 'friendly' in race A afterward to just drive for fun and it is a lot of fun.

Previously I thought the race was boring...but the problem was that I was using the wrong car, the GT-R. I felt like I wasn't moving on the track. Especially in corners.
Then I jumped in the McLaren. Completely different experience for me.

The problem is that even in AS there are a lot of aggressive drivers who don't know how to overtake. 🤦‍♂️

To be honest, the online racing in my opinion is like this whatever your DR/SR ratings.

Not enough people seems to care anymore, and those that did are moving to the Dark Side in order to stay competitive. Revenge/Vengeance are only adding to the problem, not resolving it.

Game needs a total reset with stringent penalties being implemented. Even bans for persistent and/or blatant offenders. The whole DR/SR systems needs to be reworked. Strategy needs proper implementation.

If it stays like it is, I foresee an impending exodus to Forza.

Sorry for the gloom, just saying how I feel.

This is 100% true, they risk to lose a lot of best users that really drive honestly and fairly and retaining only the bad ones that only want to win in every possible way...I love GT, I really love GT since 25years ago, but sometimes I'm frustrated as yesterday evening, another way is to meet with friends online in some private lobby and have a fun race.
I'm doing less Sport mode, just a couple per day, cause it could be a pain in some lobby...

I haven't played any DR this week because I've been busy packing for an holiday. Today, I decided to hop onto a race and I chose Spa. Little did I know I was about to make a tutorial on how to go from SR S to B in a few corners.

The first few corners were dry and nobody was skiding around, but as we reached Les Combes everyone was faced with their imminent demise.
