I personally think it's 'fun' to analyze these types of things like DR and understand their inner workings but that's just me :) plus how would you identify bugs if you don't look at these things.
Perhaps I should have clarified.

Im not saying that there isn’t a place for detailed analysis, I’m just not convinced that “Daily Race Discussion” is that place. If you do find what you believe to be a bug then there is another thread that you can use to report such.

I for one agree with your statements. I have to say that since I gave up on watching my DR I have much more.fun in the races.
I do also have to say I watch my SR as religiously as others watch their DR.

I have seen a shift in this thread over the course of GT 7 to a much more mathematical view of the races and while I can understand that this is for some people the very idea of fun it certainly isn't for all.
I do think the best cure is for the ones not amused by it to write more racing stories from the other perspective though.
So I will try and write more often on my endeavours from that perspective.

I think I am B right now.. haven't started the game so not sure.
And that's how much I care.

Yeah that's a fair point when I was reading comments on the topic I didn't think it didn't belong here. I guess that's what moderators are for :)

If you get beat, stop crying about other people driving "dirty". I am absolutely sick of hearing that thrown at those of us with an S sportsmanship rating who have held it almost since day 1.
I had several people slam into me repeatedly at Spa. I don't know where they're getting in game credits, could be Spa, could be someplace else, but that's where I get mine. I am very confident in that track in the 911 RSR and the Loctite-Zexel GT-R plus many road cars. I use all of the track width unless I see someone close by. If I do, I let them run their race. It doesn't matter if I'm faster or better or just the opposite, they have an objective and who am I to stand in their way. If there's going to be a collision, I will ruin my own race if necessary to avoid it. AI or human, I treat everyone like that.
In any case, the worst offenders had the biggest mouths. I also had a problem with the officials, I'd been running the track offline over an hour with no penalties at all.
My in game name is M. Parker. If you don't like how I drive (S SR) then excuse yourself from any race you see me in, and if you have any complaints, I don't want to hear them.
Other than that, if we're getting too close on the track, make yourself seen. There is room for everyone and I will find it.

Nice attitude. I agree with most of what you said but there are dirty drivers. People that will leave space only to hip check you off the track, people that will dive up the inside with absolutely no chance to make the corner without you being there as a deflector.
And hitting people side to side doesn't give SR down. So plenty of them are SR99 and remain that way

One more thing to add to my tirade: I'm a hardcore game collector and an avid game collector. I hold 3 or 4 world records on the scoreboards out of thousands of games and 40 years of playing.
It feels nice to come home with a spot on the world's podium, but ya know, I sleep the same now as I did before: with the fan on. If you enjoy the game, there is no shame in not winning a world tournament. I started multiplayer gaming in earnest in 1993. Eight years later I took home a world title. During that time I enjoyed a lot of games.
On the other hand if you don't enjoy the game, you shouldn't play it.

Personally, I don’t care about your ratings. I don’t care that your ratings went up or down. I just want some insight as to general car performance coupled with any driving insights that may assist my endeavours.
So what you're saying is, you only care about what can help you, and you don't want to hear about things that don't interest you.

There are plenty of things other people talk about here that I'm not interested in, and some that I can't believe people spend so much energy thinking about. You know what I do? I scroll past them. Because I realize that it's OK for people to care about things I don't find interesting, and I'm thrilled they have a place to discuss those things. That's what GTPlanet is all about.
Im not saying that there isn’t a place for detailed analysis, I’m just not convinced that “Daily Race Discussion” is that place.
Daily Race Discussion is really one of the few places to discuss them - DR/SR don't get affected by anything else, other than World Series events and the like.
That race I highlighted dropped me 14% points. How is that even possible?
I had an inexplicable drop in DR during that exact same time period. I stated P2, ended P3, and lost DR.

I shouldn't have lost DR here, so I think I must have forgotten to record a race from last night.

I know my comment says I must have forgotten to record the previous race, but I don't really believe that happened.

Other than that one race, the only time I lost DR was when I finished P10 or higher. So I think PD did something, although I have no idea what.

I need to download your race tracker GrunpyOldMan but does it work on phones or laptops only?

Genuine question I've used mainly the 650S, GTR which at first I didn't like but as I've got smoother with the controller it's not bad, AMG GT3 16, Supra on a couple of races but nothing else, how's the Corvette? The 911 RSR seems to be popular but I want to try some new cars, what's peoples preferred car?

I like it. I don't see any other Vettes in race though so there's that

Mazda RX Concept has been the fastest for me by some distance.

I've contemplated giving the RX a go but haven't because of a daft reason because it's not a real car/race car.
Aye and the sound is horrific but when you see the time start falling off you can get used to it

I've noted the Ford GT40 being more common in the last few races as well, perhaps worth a run out, I haven't done so myself yet.

EDIT on your comment above, the Mustang isn't a real car either, I appreciate it is coming but the one in the game certainly isn't a real GT3 racer, is that not counted the same as the Mazda then?

Yeah it's one noisy car but I'll give it a run, I try a new car and go quicker and then get complacent with where to put it in each corner, gear etc. And then feel like my consistent times become slower.

I've seen a few GT40 they look quick on the back straight but not through the corners but that could just be a slower driver I've seen.

Your right about the Mustang, I presumed there would have been GT3 or GTE cars over in America which now contradicts my reasoning for not using the RX 😂

Got my last 3 races for this week's offerings in at Spa this morning.

Q3 to P3
Q5 to P4
Q4 to P5

Mostly uneventful, but I binned it in sector 2 in the last race to give up a P4 finish.

In race 2, I was holding 3rd up until the last turns in lap 4 but gave up the position to an A+ driver instead of trying to defend and likely losing more positions. Turned out that P1 to P3 were occupied by all A+ drivers in that one, so a 4th place finish was good enough for me.

@MillerGT not to take away from @GrumpyOldMan and his GranTracker, but what I'm doing to track my progression is using Kudos Prime. I take a screenshot of my profile page after each race, I have it set to auto upload to the PS app and I download the photo from there onto my phone and subsequently upload it to Kudos Prime. Super simple.

It looks like GranTracker keeps track of more parameters, but I'm just keeping track of my DR progressions.

True for me too, although I have to run TCS at 3 because I need the training wheels. :dopey:

Well, if you want to think about it, none of the cars are real. It's a game. But of course I understand what you meant.

Computers only - Windows and Mac.

Don't worry, I won't hold it against you.

That is true, I should have said based on real cars 😁 I'll give them all a go, what's there to loose when someone uses my rear bumper as a brake.

I'll get it on the laptop it looks to give a more Immersive feel to the game like your on the pit wall at a race event. I'm sure it helps to see which cars are consistently quicker rather than having one good race or one quick race lap like I've had with the GTR but feel over a few races I'm slower in comparison to the AMG.

I'll have a look at the Kudos Prime and see which looks like the best fit for me, thanks for the info muchly appreciated 👍

As someone who is most definitely guilty of the “why me” attitude on occasion, I do feel that sometimes we fail to see the shortcomings of our own performance whilst focussing on being unfairly treated by either/both the game and/or other racers.

Despite contradictory remarks to the the opposite, we all have too much focus on DR / SR ratings. Not so much in general but specifically our own.

Too many people here are championing these ratings as insignia of ability. They are simply a reflection of:

a) How fast you can get from start to finish. (DR)
b) How you managed to do so whilst respecting fellow racers who are trying to do the same. (SR)

Whilst I fully appreciate people wishing to either celebrate their successes or bemoan their failures, do we really need to have pages upon pages of mathematical evidence regurgitated here?

Personally, I don’t care about your ratings. I don’t care that your ratings went up or down. I just want some insight as to general car performance coupled with any driving insights that may assist my endeavours.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the basic understanding that if your DR goes up, it’s because you finished in front of more folks than finished in front of you. likewise if your SR goes down, it is because you have breached acceptable standards. Yes there may be some anomalies and yes you may be the occasional victim of those.

Ratings fixation has ruined Sports Mode for me and, I suspect, others. What about how cool the scenery was or how diverse everyones liveries are? What about the glorious soundtrack of 16 car engines as we all pull away?

Nope, none of that.

Just mathematical details regurgitated in ever finer detail. People so consumed by ratings that alts are now created in order to protect the ratings of main accounts. People wondering wether it’s worth racing if their ratings or statistics don’t improve.

Let’s just get back to what it should be. Fun.
I think we recognize our own shortcomings. We try to be the best driver out there but there are many of us that are still progressing and learning. I certainly drive a lot better than I did six months ago when I was a nooby but I recognize that sometime I cause the mayhem, though always by accident and misjudging a situation and never intentionally. I think we want to call out dirty drivers when we see them as an example of how not to drive and also bemoan the fact that when there are dirty (or just unskilled) drivers around you sometime it can be a challenge to have a clean race and drive cleanly yourself. Someone hits you with a side glance, sends you wobbly, you recover but doing that you lose speed and hit someone else with your front. In the SR system you're now that bad guy. The SR system doesn't seem to penalize for side hits; which I think is wrong.

I'm trying to recover my SR at the moment as I'm getting placed in the wreck-a-thon crowd and it panics me every time I start a race. If I can get through turn 1 at Spa then I am usually good to go and finish with a podium. But in a lot of these lower SR races, invariably, the car behind me will dive on the inside and careen off my side in the turn which knocks me off line, slows me down at the crucial stage and then I become a dying gazelle to a pack of hungry wolves that knock me about up En Rouge and Kimmel. Those races I'm often in the bottom 3. It's very frustrating. Of course if I try to defend for that by taking an tighter inside line, then I am slow out of the corner and I'm that gazelle again. It's a lose lost situation. My only hope if that there is someone decent behind me. Some races yes, and some races no.

I also think it is appropriate to fixate of DR and SR here. Sport mode and the daily races is the only place were it is applicable (GTWS aside). As someone relatively new to GT (I played GT1, 2, 3, Prolog and 5, but never seriously and took a 10 year hiatus after that so I am fresh back into it) I rely on the DR to show my state of progress. It is what motivates me to compete. Seeing that bar progression is ver reinforcing of the desire to race. Conversely, yet it hurts when you see it drop. For a while I had been bobbling along in the lower B ranks and I figured that would be where I would stay at my natural ability. Then I had a run to the mid-upper B ranks and, deludedly, I begun to feel like perhaps I could begin to get close to A. It's always been a subconscious goal to get to A but I never really felt I had the skill. Sorry if my postings on this and the DR gain annoyed you but then, why are you here? This thread is all about sport and DR is integral to that.

@Cherryturbo I personally think it's 'fun' to analyze these types of things like DR and understand their inner workings but that's just me :) plus how would you identify bugs if you don't look at these things.
Perhaps I should have clarified.

Im not saying that there isn’t a place for detailed analysis, I’m just not convinced that “Daily Race Discussion” is that place. If you do find what you believe to be a bug then there is another thread that you can use to report such.
Are you referring to my 14% DR drop post? That was more a question of how might that happen as I have never seen anything like it before. I don't think anyone else was using DR to search for bugs. If not my post what was the example?
I don't think it doesn't belong here, but I personally wish for more stories about the adrenaline and the fun in the races :)
I'm all for stories. I used to do some write ups on races but I thought people were getting tired of them so I mostly stopped.
If you get beat, stop crying about other people driving "dirty". I am absolutely sick of hearing that thrown at those of us with an S sportsmanship rating who have held it almost since day 1.
So nice of you. Please drive with SR B and SR C drivers. Trust me, you will start crying of dirty drivers. There's some real chads out there.
Nice attitude. I agree with most of what you said but there are dirty drivers. People that will leave space only to hip check you off the track, people that will dive up the inside with absolutely no chance to make the corner without you being there as a deflector.

The last two days I have been suffering a lot from the hip check and corner deflector crowd. Will post a video later.

I think you must be right in that PD did a mass reset of some sort because if you got this and I did around the same time perhaps it happened to everyone.

Just to know: any European server users having issues? Just got kicked off a race with an error that I’ve never had, my connection is fine…I was 5th :guilty:

American server but I have noticed issues popping a few times this week, like stutters, and cars zooming past their braking points only to return to their positions a few seconds later. The worst one being- I was given chase cam view of the pole sitter (not me) for a lap. Absolutely none of my controls worked. I kept watching helplessly until the game kicked me out straight to Sport page without any error code. Resulted in DR reduction. Can't say about SR as it stayed S but I might have been at 99% SR before the race.

I’m afraid of trying again cause I was almost B and now I’m low C

Has anyone else noticed that on Sundays, on the US servers, we seem to get yellow connection bars more often than other days of the week? It could just be my imagination, but I've been thinking about this for months. Or maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part.

I've often wondered if PD pulls a few servers offline to start setting up the next week, but I suspect that's ridiculous.

Yes I have seen that today but it has not affected the racing. What I have seen are a lot more racers from South America today and some race B lobbies that weren't full.

Weekends are often IT maintenance days but considering GT is proabaly played a lot at the weekend, I don't know in this case. However, your thoughts make sense.

Not a server issue but on one of my races I lost wheel controls just upon entering Eau Rouge. Not good! I was a victim of the dreaded Fanatec DD axle drift issue. Second time I have had to reseat it in the 6 weeks I've had it (and four weeks I've been able to play with it). Pretty bad QC by Fanatec there.
