@TheNormsk ; you've got all the answers. (How do you get to Carnegie hall?!). We recently had TTs and a GTWS event there, 10 laps w/dynamic weather. It.Was.A.Blast!

I bronzed the CE early on in my GT7 progression and put it away once I started in Sport. Nearly a year later, after all those Sport entries, I went back to it and finally managed gold. There were a few sectors that gave me absolute fits, but most were not too hard for anyone of your caliber.

If you enjoy it, it gets so,so much more satisfying when you have it down-pat. I only wish the Race A could include a couple more laps.

I didn't learn the Nordschleife until the manufacturers cup race and the time trail there a couple months ago. In my mind, the track is long chunks or sections with a some critical features (i.e corners and braking zones) sprinkled in, rather than individual straights and corners like most tracks. Still took a while and some repetition, but that mindset shift helped me get on track and start lapping continuously rather than wrecking every other lap.

For example, I can't tell you every specific turn diving into the foxhole, but I know the hairpin entering that section, and I know where to brake and turn at the end. The section in between is a blur of flat out right/left that I have a feel for, but no specific lines or markers.

It's more like how I remember trails when mountain biking, so maybe there's some experiential bias there, but that's how it worked for me. Worked for both group 3 and the civic type R time trial, which are the only two races I've done there.

Serious question. How do you remember all the turns and line for the Nordschliefer (sp?)? I'm hopeless at it. I have to run this track with racing line and brake markers to give me an idea of what I should be doing. I just don't remember it otherwise.
Nordschleife is a place that frustrates you into loving it...or walking away. Seems polarizing in that regard.

As everyone else said, it's just laps. Once it becomes similar to that drive into work where you get to your destination and wonder "...did I stop at that stop sign?...", then it'll get easier. Knowing what's three or more turns down the road is PARAMOUNT at the 'Ring. Take the shifter kart out and you can do some bump mapping, too.🤣🤣🤣

One of the first things I did when I got into '7 was gold that CE for the money. 😁

Haven't done A yet but just looking at it. In stead of a grid start they should run this sort of race as a point to point race just because the road is so narrow. I echo what Tidge thinks about the place. Amazing to run all types of cars round but for gran Turismo it never seems to feel right for me.

*by point to point I mean staggered like rally or how hill climbs work

Circuit experience, highly recommended.
Also, you have a 5MM prize for gold in every sector.

When I get bored of daylies, I came back to the ring on time trial to try different road cars and set my own record list wich I find very entertaining.

Looks like I need to do some circuit experience! I thought I had so I checked but it was wrong Nurburgring...

Or perhaps I'll just take the Suzuki Switft around Brands or the Genesis-X to Sardegna. Both could be fun!

When it came around in July of 2022, I was sure I'd never learn it. According to the map I just finished, there's 85 turns, although there's much fewer real turns. Still, it's a lot.

But a funny thing happened as I kept at it. I found it got reasonably easy to remember everything (or most of it, anyway). My brain kind of broke it down into sections, and it wasn't too long before there was very little that surprised me. Don't get me wrong - I don't have a photographic memory, but the 'Ring has so many different-looking sections that it just stuck.

Whatever you do, DO NOT quit every time you crash. Even if you've got damage. You need the reps on the track. And honestly, getting through the track without crashing, especially with these cars, is not going to happen often, at least ay the start.

And of course watch some replays.

Hours upon hours of practice, not just with the track but with the type of car being driven as well. Just about nobody drives it perfectly, so you can give yourself some mental breaks.

Try simplifying the circuit into sections by associating them with an archetype of corner. Then apply your understanding of that archetype to the entire section. If a corner stands out in the section then you know it is something that you need to memorize. Mostly, that will be corners connected to the straights.

Its a bit counterintuitive, but the way to drive the Nordschleife well is to minimize the amount you have to remember. Focusing too much on the details will not give you enough time to focus on everything else.

@GrumpyOldMan is 100% right.

One of my biggest problems was quitting if my first sector or two was poor.

The problem I then had is that I didn't know the rest of the sectors....even with gold CE it takes me a while to flow in to it.

I spent toooooo many years just driving it for fun that now I don't find it fun. If you aren't against the clock it's the best place in the world for me but once the pressure turns up to 11 it becomes a super concentration drain.

You don't really learn the place, you build muscle memory. For example some of the lines aren't actually the best for certain parts of the road where it goes off camber, other parts you are better to be conservative rather than attack it (YouTube corner! For example)

That said I'm not gonna race it this week so there is much more sage advice or commentary than mine on this one.

I want to offer a different approach.

Treat it like learning kids in class or coworkers. One group of friends at a time. Give them names. Don't think "ZOMG I GOTTA MEMORIZE 85 PEOPLE" Just start with a group of three.

That's what I did. And it worked for me.

The advantage of this approach is it takes the mindset away from a gargantuan task to a more relaxed one.

So think of a person or two you know. Name a straight or a turn after them. Then another for that person across the street.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Hope this helps . . .

Wasted over half a second on both qualy runs lol with silly mistakes but only had 30 mins today, so no actual race managed or proper time going round the tracks...

Hopefully can do that Wednesday as tomorrow is an early start and late finish at work 🫤

Once you slam enough of the walls or completely botch a section and into the grass, you remember where to hammer down and where to be really ginger with the throttle.....some sections are really deceptive too in how much speed you can carry through.....

Heh. It's just as bad in real life. I have done perhaps 10 laps on the Ring during Touristenfahrten, and after 16 km I just get lost between Brunchen and Pflantzgarten. Asking my codriver: where the f... am I?
It takes lots of practice :P

I couldn't resist a late night attempt 😂 Quickly set an equal time to my main (1:40.5) and did 2 races.

Race 1 - Started P5 and instant nuked into the gravel trap in T1 by an obvious assclown, almost no attempt to brake. I was down to P12 but didn't give up and finished P7, so proud of me.

Race 2 - Had a bit of good karma come my way, started P13 after being moved up lobbies and was consistently in the 1:42:1s on the first 4 laps on the medium's. Pitted on lap 5 and was doing 1:41:1 - 1:41:3 for the rest of the race, depending on traffic. Finished 4 places further than I started in P9 and both races I had the CR bonus too :)

Nice results; this is going to be a good week in C.

You said you pitted on lap 5. I’ve seen several drivers do that. But isn’t the strat 1 mediums, 9 softs?

Yea, A is pretty fun. I am definitely not as competitive in the road cars as I am in the Gr cars, but these road cars are pretty well 'tuned' such they're really fun to drive. One thing that I've seen thus far is multiple cars being competitive. Seems the Supra is META for the TTing, but I've been in races that were won by an LFA, M3, Porsche, and Supra thus far.

Two laps would've been nice and I still really wish we could use our garage cars just so they looked a little different.

This week I’ll mainly be in 1230 race on my lunch, may have to try the Mazda tomorrow it was the supra yesterday, I’ll leave sardegna until the weekend (wish that was race b) but omg race A looks a hoot too, can’t wait for retirement 🤣 when I’ll have more time

Put a few qt laps on each race to see how they gelled for me.

Started with C and tried pug vgt and 911 (911 felt best but was lacking straight line speed. Kind of miss grinding this layout so I will be back 😁

B qt tried RCZ, Huracan, 650 and Evo. Been a while since I’ve done full Brands so I felt best in RCZ but still really off.

Made sure I saved about an hour for A race qt and that was the most satisfying lapping of the evening.
Took 3 laps in the LFA to get one without a bobble and landed right behind @mellofello9 on my friends list so I felt pretty solid but knew I could pull a bit better lap if I went again. Finished the next lap all excited because I dropped a little over a second and that was going to put me right in the hunt but low and behold, I pulled up the list and @mellofello9 crushed it and dropped another 3 seconds plus after he swapped cars 👍👍 very nice work.

Tried a couple laps in the Supra before I called it and it took 2 laps for a clean run but I went a second slower than the LFA. Would need to run some replays to watch speed vs rpm because in VR the speedo pegs at 160 kph and you only have a tach to go by. Supra definitely felt looser than the LFA.

Will definitely be getting on with A race tomorrow evening and we’ll see if C wins out later in the week. 🍻

BoP is really good on these cars. I grabbed a p2 in the XJ220 last night. It would have been p1 if not for the ludicrously over-strength slip stream.
