I tried the m6 and that felt horrible as well. Then it dawned on me that it is probably the racing hard tires. They seem a lot more slippery these days and I don’t particularly like them. I only get on with RS and RM. It was probably on one of those that I set my prior time.
I could use the m6 with TC 2, but it still didn't feel great. The Huracán seems pretty stable - you might wanna try that.

Had another go at Suzuka - improved QT down to 2:01.4 in the 911. Tried the M6 but couldn’t get on with it.

Started 2nd again and stayed there to the end, but a good race with the guy in first which made it a little more exciting. Close to the top of B rating now after this. Tempting fate and will have another try 😂

Edit: That race went ok as well!

I just pulled up Suzuka to try to get a QT, and saw that I had a previous saved lap of 2:01.9 with the 911, which seems to be a target, so I chased that and it turns out I can’t drive the 911 anymore!

Guess I’m not used to the understeer anymore. I need to find another car. Perhaps will try the M6.

It does appear to act differently than the last time I used it there. Don't know what changed.
Isn't it strange, I had the same problem with my default Gr3, the RCZ, which is normally glued to the track - understeering like mad in this event!

So I switched to the 911, turned in much better than the RCZ and I instantly improved my QT by 1 second.

Oh, and the four races I did yesterday were all won by 911s!

I had two okay races at Suzuka last night, in one of them I hit a Porsche in the middle of the race which cost me three seconds, I got a huge penalty. Still ended up finishing 5th place which is reasonable. I used the BMW M6 car (the white one). It packs a punch driving through those corners and turns.

I got myself into the 2:01 club (just) with the M6. I’m really not liking the 911 under steer at the moment so I tuned the M6 into an acceptable drive.

Wrong thread?
Well crap, I'm gettin' old and not paying attention to my surroundings...didn't even notice tuning this round. Thanks for the reminder!

Might have to poke that proverbial bear because the cars are on ice this week. Gotta be the compound given we've seen similar complaints across a couple different cars. Personally, I went from running the 911RSR at the Nurb' 24H on RM's in GTSport straight to Suzuka on RH's in '7 (same car). Not fun.

Struggled at first but finally settled in with the car and lack of traction. Could not hit the final chicane with any speed at all until I moved the brake bias back (+2), which helped. Biggest issue now is lacking consistency through 4/5/6 into Dunlop. Laps, need more laps.

Seeing that I now have to chase TWO 'Fishtails and some other folks it's time to get to work...what is it with you people and multiple accounts?? Trying to fend you track monsters off one at a time is bad enough.🤣

Are Gr3 hard tyres made of wood or something? Love Gr3 on softs and mediums but hards are not much fun.

Still, had a few decent runs and was in a race with @newmedia_dev when my power went off 🙄☹️ There's a storm blowing outside and the power's been off and on five times so far, so I've given up til the weather calms down.

Chicane-less Catalunya is certainly much better to race around but the races I've had so far have been a tad dull, even though I've won a couple. Nice to have several different competitive cars though ( in high B low A lobbies)

Race hards on gr3 is awful I mean it's the worst thing in a fast circuit.

Nothing about those tires make sense in a sprint race

I came here to post about how much fun I'm NOT having at Race B today - about how hard it is for me to keep the friggin' cars on the friggin' track during races. I guess I'm not alone.

Agree 100%.

At least it's not only me. It's especially difficult when you're racing other drivers, and have to react to them at the same time. You're already barely hanging on to the track, when the guy behind you taps you into oblivion. I don't even blame them.

2 races, 2 DNFs (which would have been DFLs if I had finished them out). Sigh.

Don’t you just hate it when you seemingly have a good tune and forget to screenshot it.

Then, the next day you come back, try to re-create it and you can’t even get out of the 2:03s…. 🤦‍♂️
Especially as that's my bread and butter standard car setup.

I'm not sure that outside of the mega guys these set ups really help.

The reason I say that is that in all honesty my fastest QT was in a standard car before I realised I hadn't changed the set up.

I know I'm certainly neither fast enough or consistent enough to see a difference on the stop watch directly, although I would expect set-up changes to provide me feel/confidence in certain areas, which then translate to lap time. That said, I have a limited amount of seat time, and the GT7 physics model requires a level of understanding that I don't have time to invest in. The only changes I made to the 911 was BB to -3 to make it more predictable into and through turn 1 and 2 so it didn't try and kill me.

There’s a .5 in me yet, as well.

How to say you’re naturally good without saying you’re natural good. Smarty pants!

Yes, for me, it’s about the feel of tire car and ability to tune it for turn in and stability.

I found the same in one of these tuning events, setting a faster QT with the standard settings.

The biggest change was in the race, where the tyre wear was much less with the tuned car - of course that was a longer race C. This being a shorter race B, with a low tyre wear factor too, I suspect you wouldn't really notice the difference.

I do notice that a lot of the YT streamers just jump straight into the race, without bothering with a tune, and it doesn't seem to slow them down too much.....

Amazing how much of an impact driving style has on the settings we make...I smoothed out 1/2 by going BB +2. 🤣

Much like you, I won't mess with tuning this round. I might try my default settings in hopes of less need for opposite-lock coming out of the triangle and T11. But, and if there's no appreciable difference, back to stock it goes. Much like you, seat time is precious and scant...hours of back-to-back comparison laps ain't happenin'.

Hoping to try that out this evening...got people to catch.😁

PS - If anyone is interested, my default for the 911 is as follows (mildly personalized Praiano tune):
  • ARB - 9/9 (F/R)
  • Shocks (F) - 27/37 (Comp/Exp)
  • Shocks (R) - 37/47 (Comp/Exp)
  • Freq - 3.80 / 3.90 (F/R)
EDIT
@TheNormsk seriously???? You guys are HORRIBLE confidence builders. Just horrible.🤣

I found the back kept coming around on me so that’s why I moved BB forwards. In the interests of science I’ll try your 911 settings tonight and see what happens. I’m pretty happy with my QT as it stands currently, but if there’s time on the table with your set-up I’ll take it! 🍻

@mellofello9 - could it be that you needed BB at +2 as a result of those other settings I.e. cause and effect?

Good luck and hope it works!! Some tracks it jives with, others it does not. Most times for me, though, it's likely placebo effect and improvements are simply a by-product of more laps run. Curious to see how you fare, though, as I'll be doing the same. 👍

I got called trash for this move at Suzuka.

What do you think?

In my comments on the video I wrote:

In my third daily race B of the new year, I slotted past P2 in the last corners of Suzuka and we bumped. I was called trash for this. While the bump is unfortunate, I say they left the door open, it was not a dive bomb as l'd been coming on them down the straight, and I left over half the track for them at the apex. I was able to turn while passing. I think they did not anticipate me so turned in too soon and not maintain the outside line, having lost the spot.

Looks to me like he missed the apex and then tried to pinch you on the exit. You left him enough room on the outside from what I can see... That said, in the heat of the moment without viewing the replay, I can see why he might have felt otherwise (which is a good reason to not respond instantly in chat after a race)

Ok so here is my opinion (and I stress opinion). Your fault. I believe looking at this replay a few times it appears you drove in on the corner too sharp and when you came off the curbing you were a bit unstable which caused you to slide into his rear (signs to me he had the corner). I would say it could be considered a dive bomb from his viewpoint. I would have slowed down and waited for him to catch up - in the spirit of fair racing. Again just my opinion.

This one kinda feels like a wash to me from a fault perspective:
  • You cut it tight and trimmed the lawn. When the FL hit the grass the car rotated left and moved right immediately, pushing you wider into their space
  • In watching their brake lights/arc, it looks like they set-up the turn but released too quick and came in hot. They hit the brakes twice through there, the second time they hit 'em the car turns in hard left, directly into your door. Had they lightened up on left-lock, maybe a different outcome?
Not sure if I would've been able to give the spot back if only because of the inevitable chaos that is last-lap through Casio Triangle. It's a horror show and I'm not sure I would've had the faculties to focus on relinquishing a spot w/out screwing everyone else's race up, too. If that was lap 1/2, different story. Pressure is still high, it's just not 'final-turns-of-the-last-lap-two-inches-off-bumpers' pressure, is all. If it's safe, I give it back.

I've tried to give spots back in tight spaces/heated moments only to cause additional destruction. Your results may vary. 😁

sup grumpy, guess I know not to jump right into daily races then!

I'm back at it in Race B this week. After yesterday and today's practice laps, I'm currently at a 2:03.1XX in the Porsche with the BB set to -2 as that's good enough for me.

My first race has me in P7 and it was a total disaster. I tried to avoid the spins and such but still got collected in the mess and hit the wall a few times as insult to injury. I have a miserable time and finish P15.

Because of that result, I'm on pole for my next race. Which I should have won but I messed up the Degner Curves on lap 3 and I could not get the lead back. I'll take a P2 as compared to my last race finish and get a confidence boost.

My final race of the evening has me in P6 on the grid. This was a sloppy race from everyone including myself as I made a few questionable moves. The entire race was full of contact and I got stuck a few times behind the drivers that were fighting. My move was a lunge and sticking my nose in to make a pass in T1 before the esses. They were doing it to others, so I don’t feel too bad for doing it. I finish P4 in the end and call it a night.

I do jump into the Huracan for a few laps and have a best time of 2:03.2XX. So I’m close to my Porsche time and I do plan to see if I can’t get to a time of 2:02.XXX
