Thought Grand Valley Reverse might be intriguing as we've never had it before but then saw the settings and realised it'll be a Gr.4 fuel saver

All the previous races with those tyre and fuel settings:

If I said, I don't like you, would that sum up my thoughts on your accomplishment! LOL.

Congratulations, that is a serious achievement. While you may be new to sport, this is obviously not your first competitive event though, right?

Thank you! I’m afraid it is. I’ve been playing gran turismo with my friends in the lobby mode and that is it. I’ve done most of the circuit experiences for competency building but I’ve never actually competed in anything meaningful or “ranked”

I'm not buying it.

superior fuel economy.
Three words nobody has ever said about a Mustang ever in the history of the world!

I’m two days into racing again and I now remember why I quit. In Race B I’m getting shoved off the track and crashed into walls at the bottom of dogpiles, and THEN I’m limping away with a 3 second penalty. Over and over again. It’s not a one time fluke, and it makes no sense. I’m seeing 5 second penalties for people who are causing trouble, and I’m ok with that (except for when I get slapped with one for getting hit in the side) but why should I get penalized after getting brutalized by that driver who got the penalty?! Same old junk.

On a slightly related note: on an excruciatingly long flight back from South Africa I finally saw the Gran Turismo movie, and it was ok. But they honestly seem to think that ramming other cars off the road, while only a tactic for the villains, is not a punishable offense by racing marshalls. And then it made me wonder if that’s why the penalty system is so out of whack. None of the garbage I’ve been suffering in two days of racing should ever be allowed.

Rant over. I may be back into retirement again after seeing next week’s races. With no real incentive to take the racing seriously, I’m back to not really enjoying my time. It’s a shame, and I thought Polyphony would have at least try to tweak penalties after an entire year, and two years into their title.

Ok, rant really over.

Had some great races on Wednesday at Daytona. Lots of hard clean racing with some side by side action and photo finishes. Generally mid to rear of the pack but having a ton of fun.

Yesterday was awful though. First race was pretty good, @sturk0167 was fighting for the lead the whole race and i managed to get up to third, although a ways behind. After that it was just bad. Not that the racing was dirty necessarily, but i had something happen that ended my race in the first few turns every time, sometimes it was my mistake sometimes it was getting cought up in someone else's mistake. Saw @Talon16 is his pink gt (which does look surprisingly good) in a few races but i was never able to come close to sharing some pavement. Maybe next time my friend.

I love this track and this weeks race is a lot of fun so i will be back at it today after work and through most of the weekend as it is supposed to be crap weather here.

@Bullwinkle it's nice to see you back and I'm sorry that it hasn't started well. Hopefully you can get some really good races in soon so that you don't leave again. It's really hard sometimes when we have days like that.

I can't help with the penalty system. But as for getting shoved around, etc., may I respectfully suggest that there may be reasons why this keeps happening to you?

I know you have way more experience than I do, and that it's presumptuous on my part to offer this kind of "help", but I'm gonna do it anyway because I hate to see you experiencing this so often.

In any case, if you're not using the meta car, are you causing the people behind you to get frustrated when you slow them down? If so, that's the chance you take when not using the Mazda3 this week.

Are you anticipating people trying to do stupid things, and shutting down the inside even though it's not the best line, etc.?

God I feel stupid even suggesting these things because of course you already know them, but as I said, I hate to see you constantly getting pushed around. I've had plenty of paint scraping this week, but other than a couple of idiots, it's been reasonably well-behaved.

By now I’m positive you have more racing experience than I do, so I invite the advice. You’re probably correct. I did think to myself on reflection that it would be better to lose two positions to aggressive drivers rather than lose all the positions trying to defend in vain. So I think you’re probably right.

I’m going to chalk it up to being rusty, but that downhill hairpin before the chicane of death is a ****show! It doesn’t matter what line I take, it’s the wrong one and eight other people around me let me know it. That right hander after the opening chicane is also always an invitation for people to squeeze their noses in and shove me into the gravel.

It wouldn’t bother me so much except that my SR plummeted after two races. Two! That bugs me more than anything. Being labeled as “unsportsmanlike” by a couple of incorrect penalties just chaos my hide.

Stay wide. Anyone divebombing is relying on someone actually being there to 'bounce' off of, by staying wide they will inevitably either have to slow down and take the turn properly and you'll have the advantage of exit speed or hit the wall and ghost out.

I don't know if you mean the quick flick right hand or the hard brake after but let them through, you get an immediate opportunity on them right after it either into that hard brake turn or through the esses with slipstream on your side.

These won't work every time but as a couple of examples, the more you start to use these techniques the less stress you'll have with cars around you.

Took the day off work today as I have some things I need to do... and one of those things was get in a quick C before said tasks. Little did I know at the time I'd be put in a lobby with good ol' Rory, as well as DeadEyeDellboy which is super cool.

Just another banger of a race! Started P2 (LM II) behind Lamaravilla777 (P-VGT), who is super quick (QT: 44.0 vs my 44.1) and a very clean driver. He beat me in the McLaren - of all cars - earlier in the week. So I was excited about that as knowing the people around you race clean from previous experiences means one less thing to have to worry about.

As the race starts, fortunately Lam' and I are able to pull a way from the pack a bit (especially because they were fighting some) building a 3ish second lead over them. My intent was to try and stick behind P1 and save fuel where I could and hopefully gain some time in the pits. And, like clockwork I get a track limits pen coming out of the bus-stop; I deserved that one 100%. Fortunately for me, so did P1. P3 was back far enough it wasn't going to lose me a place. P1 didn't pit, so neither did I. I was kinda angry with myself after not pitting as I am sure I'd have gained .500-.750" on him by doing so, but I stuck with plan A.

Nothing much changed as I was able to keep in his slip, and on lap eight I got a good run going to the bus-stop. I went to the outside but wasn't quite able to get fully ahead (that Peugeot has really good top end!) so I backed off. We both pit on lap eight. I went right to the diamond on fuel and my strat worked; I came out just in front of the Peugeot, like bumper to bumper.

He got a good run coming out of the bus-stop and we went side-by-side into T1 on the last lap. Thankfully I was on the inside and able to keep the place. I was able to build an .800" lead through the infield and eventually bring it home. Super chuffed after that one!

Lamaravilla if you're out there, thanks for the race! Great stuff. Hope to see you on track again.

And, cool to mark Rory and DeadEye off the list of streamers to race with!

Had some racing with lamaravilla the other day. Not sure what he was doing near the back with me, but was great to race with. Very respectful and fast. I love when a fast guy who finds himself racing with us lobby fillers doesn't act like a toolbox. Much respect to them

I’m also taking a sideways step away from GT7 well and ironically just invested $$$$ into nicer gear. The way I see it though is that I’m always a racer at heart, even if I’m not a very good one, and I see me doing this well into retirement years. That’s still 5(ish) years away, but I figure good gear will last the test of time.

I’ll still do GT7 from time to time but there is a lot of other stuff I want to balance my time with including another hobby that I have invested about a 100 times the $ and time in which I took last year off from. That time was spent in GT but now it is time to get back to it…

Yes and yes, but I use the Formula 2.5X wheel now that I got in the Black Friday farce. I also use V2 Elite pedals. I tweaked my settings further after trying some other “must have settings” (that I thought were horrible) and used the Daily C QT to find a set up I liked.

And with that, I got my 44! 😁

Comically, having got a decent time I’ll probably only get in a a few races as I don’t see a lot of available time between now and the week change.
Had a go with your settings and it is really weird! The cars drive great, quite similar to my setups in terms of feel HOWEVER, I have about 4 of the settings turned off in mine and the difference from your setup to mine is not that far apart! Yours provides more flow whilst mine twitches a bit more (made this on purpose on my "hard-driving mode settings") so I can turn in faster but have the torque turned up enough to be able to catch the car and not spin.

Very interesting setup you have, I almost matched my best times within a couple of laps, just need to get used to the new "reactions" from your suggestion. Thanks mate :)

@Talon did you see the finish at the end with Rory?
No, I didn't. The end of that specific race, you mean? I'll go watch now!

Edit: Just watched the last lap, looks like he had some good racing with the Brazilian until the pen. I'll likely go back and watch the whole thing later!

I was in at least one - maybe more - races with him where he got taken out by someone.

Next time we're in a lobby together, say hi! I am quite oblivious lol.

Oh, and........ SLAYER!!!!!! Was only able to see them live once, but I am glad I did before they retired!

Reasonably well behaved has also been my experience in B and C the last few months. Had mostly clean racing at Barca last week, and at DTS this week.

Also agree that doing something simple like going defensive (or just a bit tighter to the inside) on some lap 1 corners when everyone is closer can help.

Also just constantly being aware of where other drivers are and anticipating what they might do helps.

Oh, and just letting drivers pass and not trying to battle too much (which loses both of you time). Either they are faster in which case they’re going to get past you eventually, or they are overdriving the car in which case you’ll find them in the wall next lap.

So i keep racing Daytona , trying different car Gtr penzoil that i like and get good result with it.
Some Mercedes feel less confident with it but still Can manage to finish top half most of the time
Supra gt500 not confident at all with it.
And the Huracan GT3 wich is one i got the best average result.

While racing feeling come back and i'm now able to fight on the track as my lap are more consistent. Had really somme really nice ''passe d'arme''.

And after tuning around here it comes .
As i have improved a bit my qualifing time with a 1.47.252 , i start more and more in the first 5.
But last race surprise, got the pole , was a bit worried for the start.

So finally managed to survivre first two turn , and really only have left behind me turkish beper with his Ford GT LM. Well he put high pressure on me , we pass buss stop almost side by side and i let him get in first and had a better exit so he had to take the right line high on banking. He tried too early to come in front of me , more trying to push out , i kept my line he went in the wall.
End of straight hyperduel was on me with his Peugeot i resist 2 lap then he decide to pit in. After he overtake me twice , and twice i pass him back.
Then i runned the 7 lap ahead , Pit stop on 9.

i will, i honestly wasn't sure it was you so i didn't want to look silly😂

Seen slayer 7 times. First was in 97 or 98 (memory of a pothead lol) and a band no one had ever heard of called system of a down opened for them. That was untold amounts of awesome. And saw them for the last time on the final tour. They are so good live, every time was amazing

I can trump your 97 or 98, how about Hammersmith Odeon on the Raining Blood tour in '87. Plus about ever other tour that hit London onwards. Still going strong in the moshpit at Wembley on the final tour 31 years later. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

That's awesome !!! 🤘🤘🤘 unfortunately i was 7 in 87 so i didn't even know who they were yet lol

Would have loved to see them during that time period though, along with a few other bands tbh

Switched to the Mazda at DTS, and picked up a half second in about 3 laps:

Now for the question: Could I have avoided this? I mean, having to brake suddenly during the CoD is asking for real trouble. Also, remember to lead your targets when you're trying to take someone out.

You can't mess up a corner then blame the car behind for hitting you. Also, what happens in the cod stays in the cod. You hit or get hit there it's a racing incident. IMO.

Nice one! That's a really good time.
I'm quite impressed by the pace of the SLS, I didn't expect it to be able to get that low.
Shhhhh that is our secret! Don't tell people you did it in the slower car....it makes me look bad!

Cough, what a challenging time that was to set....(ignore the dude in the anti anti meta, what does he know ;) )

Hahaha, its still a time to be proud of regardless! It was 300th or so when I set it, not sure if its still around that mark but it's still mighty good.
Sitting about 1s behind the leader is always what I strive for with a good time, so to be in that ballpark is well solid.

And it is, one wrong curb bounce or early turn in you cause or get collected.

That's what 120mph walled chicane delivers in lobbies where you want to win.

Arguably it's not the place to race in to, as lot of people lack the awareness to make the space and slow for turn in and exit.

Then drama....

After my stream today, I thought let's just post some videos of b/a transitional drivers get on. 2 top 5s with A+ drivers 3 top 13....

I held my own, still max SR and got more DR. The races needed be like a lot of you have if you just breathe and sit back a bit.

That's interesting - I don't see craziness there as much as you seem to, although it everyone's tight, I suppose it should be a surprise.
That right hander after the opening chicane is also always an invitation for people to squeeze their noses in and shove me into the gravel.
Then maybe you're doing it wrong? Don't enter the first turn too fast, or you're probably going to have to fight the brakes before the right-hand turn, and that's when people can get past you. As soon as you make that left-hand turn (smoothly), check to see if anyone's trying to crowd you out on the right-hand turn, and if so, hug the right even if it slows you down.
And it is, one wrong curb bounce or early turn in you cause or get collected.
I used to be really good at the CoD, but the Mazda3 is easy for me to lose stability on the first part of the CoD, which is disaster. It's something about how I cross the curb on the left - I'm not sure if I'm trying for a too-shallow pass through the CoD, or too steep. I'll check my replay to see if I can figure out what causes me to lose it there.

Bravo, that's a very nice - and very promissing - result!
See you on Daytona!

So i finally went back to C rating, did one ladt race in all C/S rating. Then what i thought was right need to be faster if i want to have fun there.
So this morning decide to have real try with the Peugeot . Good took my QT down to 1.46.424 so almost 1 sec faster After 10 laps only 0.80 from my ideal lap . Interesting is most of my lap where under 1.49.00 that more consistent.
Happy with that

So hadn’t much racing all week again this week unfortunately so got up early to put some times in and have some racing whilst the kids were still sleeping, managed to get the 458 on race B down to 1.47.4 and I’m sure there’s half a second to be gained, but again some good racing going on at B/C (fell down a few SR due some dive bombing so and so’s)
