Well I've always said I never liked racing the Ferrari's on anything less than Racing tyres and nothing will change that, the benefit of this combo is the fact that we are all on the same stock set up with no clever tweaking here and there so we are all on an even keel similar to TT's in previous games 👍
Also the fact we know that every week the cars and drivetrains will differ and this is not the set car from now til doomsday :sly:

Gonna run some laps now and see how I go! I might be beat like a dog in the qualifier with the Ferrari but it will give me a good reason to show my worth and kick some ass when the cars more suited to my way of driving are in play ;)

Good luck to all .. just give your best effort and nobody can take that away from you

I was wondering when this was coming. Now it is here.

I'm excited and nervous about this. Excited because I am wanting some form of organization to Prologue and it looks like it may be happening before the Fall Update. 👍 Excellent!

Nervous because I have put in very little time with the F430 (I prefer cars like the GTI, will there be any car class divisions? - just curiosity, doesn't need an answer) and Suzuka is the track that I have the most trouble with. It is my least consistent course.

But I am not letting that scare me too much. I joined this group with the intention of it making me be a better all around driver, and it looks like the motivation to give me some discipline in my play has arrived. I won't just be jumping in my favorite cars and driving my favorite tracks.

I am sure everyone has preferred cars and preferred tracks, and now is the time to break our habits and step up because we will be required to do races on tracks we don't enjoy the most and use cars we usually avoid.

Anyone that does have issues with the car, track, and settings options needs to ask themselves why. Sure it might not be your best and it might not be your favorite, but it is now time to step up and show yourself, more than anyone else, that you are a good all around driver.

Sphinx, you are putting a lot of work into this and we all appreciate it.

It'll probably be closer to the deadline before I put in a lap time just so I can get used to driving with the car on Suzuka. Real drivers put in a lot of practice time with a car to learn its behavior and I am expecting no less for myself.

good few pages of reading there for me. Great work Sphinx.
i always raced in a AWD car eg the R8, 1st 15 minutes on TT in the Ferrari i was 2 seconds off the pace of my best with the R8 and now after an hour ime 3 seconds faster.

Thanks, but please don't discuss times here. Everyone needs to learn to follow the rules because as a race steward I will not have any qualms in handing out DQ's if the rules are not followed. Welcome to OLR. 👍

Sphinx thanks for all your hard work and continued progress/support on this site.

I won't deny that this combo is waaaay too tricky for me but what the hell, I will give it my best shot and then PM you with all the relevant data.👍

This will certainly sort out the men from the boys.:nervous:

Thanks for organizing this Sphinx.

Excuse me for being dense, but why the secrecy over the times? Won't they be up there on "Rankings" for everyone to see anyway (well, I guess only if you're in the top 100)?

I’m a little surprised to see so much debate for such a simple qualifier. 👍

The system I’m using has been adopted from the WRS (Weekly Race Series) and has been tried and tested and has been very successful . The system has been in use since March 2003 and there hasn’t been any problems with the way drivers are placed into the divisions.

All I ask is for all drivers to give it their best shot, if this means spending more hours to learn the track or to learn a bit more about the car, then that’s what is needed and by all means do so.

I don’t however want to see drivers not really bothering to give it a good shot on the grounds that they will be promoted if they end up in the wrong division. I want warn them now; it’ll take a lot to earn a promotion because they aren’t handed out cheaply. This qualifier is the easiest means of getting into the highest possible division for your ability. Please don’t waste it by not giving it a good shot.

The recommended amount of time to spend on this qualifier is, in my opinion, no more than three hours, because anything after that will only have you chasing those brain numbing tenths that only dedicated and highly competitive hotlappers yearn for.

Here’s the WRS GT4 Qualifier division standings that was created in March 2005. Take note of the number of drivers who made it straight into divisions 1 and 2 (without promotion) throughout those 3 years. Also note the numbers who were promoted and demoted throughout the divisions.

Believe me, this qualifier is ideal for starting off the divisions. 👍

Yes, I'm aware that the top times are viewable on the Online database, but I'm trying to discourage discussion of times due to the fact that not everyone will be chasing the top 100 times, and therefore in light of this fact, is it OK for some to be allowed to discuss times and not others? As I've already mentioned in this thread, I'm trying to limit the damage that was caused by the flaw in the way misinformation is saved on the replay file.

To all the moaners and groaners just stop it!

This qualifier is mandatory if you wish to stay on the Official GTP Registry and want to take part in future Official GTP events.

Don't just do a half arsed attempt, try your best thats all anybody can ask of you, submit you details to Sphinx and see what happens.👍

I think it's better to submit a time that's properly representative of your ability.
I could pound round Suzuka night after night, and sometime I'll maybe hit that magic (lucky) lap. What if it's good enough to get me into Div 1 or 2, but really I'm a Div 3 driver? What happens next is that I'll be out of my depth in Div 1 races, being embarassed at finishing last, and being unable to give the other guys a decent race.

Exactly my philosophy, i wouldn't have thought that you would get a month's practice time when it comes to a scheduled event, so i too will jump in the car do a few laps, time clocked is going to be time submitted.

For me its a shame that this competition had to take place on a time trial (which I am usesless at in comparision to acctually racing) and if that means I am in a lower devision than I wanted then I am going to have to get over it.

Likewise, track....yeah, favorite track, car.....F430, crap, I'm buggered, never been able to drive that, hot lap to be placed....again crap, I'm buggered, prefer the race to finding a perfect lap...

I understand the post from Sphinx, read the rules, don't need to clarify anything, will set a time, pm the result to Sphinx and...

Started with this last night and let me tell ya, unless some miracle occurs Sphinx is gonna have to add Division 4 and Division 5. There is no way Division 3 can hold my lousy time! ;)

will be joining Linpark in the same division:)

When I exchanged my PS3's I completely forgot my GTP_Dazzla account email address and password, can I just make one like GTP_Dazzla2 or something?

just think of GTplanet as the FIA, they set the rules you have a say but at the end of the day you follow them. Its been tried and tested in the WRS series so why fix something if it ain't broke.
To everyone saying they can't handle the Ferrari/rwd just give it a try or are you all a bunch of quitters(no offence here ).
So what if you come 300th you'll still be racing in organized Gtp races rather than being out there with the punters when private rooms are out,

Create a new PSN account and then PM it to me together with your old GTP_tag.

That's nice and all, i like the idea 👍 , but i can't find a post or something about when's the deadline, do we only have to do this once... and can we change our division later( by winning certain events maybe ) ???

Deadline is 26th September, you only have to do this once and you can be promoted and demoted between divisions.

/Sphinx awaits anxiously for the veteran Mr P to give his verdict on the combo :nervous:

Ahh, this seems like a great idea. I love it..
I just need to get a hold of the game some way.. My friend borrowed it, he's in Georgia right now. The game is still in his house but I'm not gonna break in, haha.

The other thing is that I rarely drive in PRO physics, I use the SIXAXIS. I guess I'll have to get a lot of practice before the deadline.

It's pretty cool actually 👍 Only problem is I can't get anywhere near the top 10 ... those guys are flying and I will be super lucky to even get within a second of the top 3 :scared:

Other than that it drives pretty well as long as I don't get too hasty on the throttle ... good choice for the qualifier imo

I'm glad you think so. 👍

That top 10 is definitely alien territory. :nervous:

Just a curious thought I had:

I know this is placing us in divisions for racing each other, but do we have plans for how this will work in competitions against other groups/sites?

I was just curious if we had plans for how we think that may be handled.

I just thought that everyone has certain strengths and weaknesses. For instance I am very inconsistent on Suzuka and have a preference for mid-range cars in the 150-300 hp range.

If we did a competition with another group that consisted of multiple types of races would we be assigned specific events based on individual strengths?

I think these races against each other will be a great chance to see who will be best in certain situations, or who would even be eligible to get a bid into those kinds of events.

Or am I thinking way too far ahead?

Just throwing some thoughts out there that have nothing to do with who likes what about the qualifier. You know, mixing it up a bit.

correct, but these guys seem to do these tt's all the time...and with this i meen hours and hours a day:crazy:
on several tt lists i see these names over and over again, and they improve little by little all the time...
i guess there is a //us japanese will rule the world tt time sheets//going on there:)....
hmmmmm,we must come into action guys:sly:

spyrrari.

"Another example is the highly probable creation of GTP teams that will race against each other, and take part in races against other GT teams from other sites."

It says that in the GTP_Registry.

started my laps tonight; after an absolute diabolical first run I managed to reduce my lap times consistently by a couple of seconds; think i'm nearly at the point where im chasing tenths of a second now though; that F430 with S2's is a tad slippery in the slow corners! Still, be interesting to see how we all stack up! Good to see a fair number of GTP tags in the top 100 as well :-)

Now, as i'm new to this OLR lark, once the divisions are set, how often are races going to be run, how are time differences going to be taken into account etc? I apologise if its been mentioned in this thread and i skimmed over it!

Good point. Ignore the parts about will we and just look at the parts where I said how will we.

Actually I'll edit my post to reflect it.

What GTP_Concept wrote is correct. 👍

How they will be handled is anyone's guess at the moment.

Too hard to say at the moment, but there will be a weekly series in the form of the GT5 WRS

Yeah, I edited my post. But this basically answers my question. If nothing else I may have given an idea to start from.

I probably contemplate online racing leagues more than I should. I even had an idea for a GT MMO career game- that would be the only MMO I would participate in.

I had a good stab at the qualy for an hour or so and the latest update made its oh so easier to drive the car. I did this combo once by chance a few months ago and could barely start a lap and kept stuffing the chicane at the beginning let alone get a good lap. I think its a good combo Jerry. I am just hoping I can qualify in D1 this time instead of D2 (what a headache that was 3 years ago, haha)
