I had a close call this morning. Real Radio have been playing Christmas songs, and my dad knows about me avoiding Wham!, and kindly changed the station in the car to Radio 1 ready for when I get in. Both my parents know - I was a bit weary of telling them at first but they're helping me avoid it! Driving to school, Nick Grimshaw says he's going to play a Christmas song. Yesterday he played Mariah Carey, and I was skeptical as to what he was going to play today. We'd stopped off at the Post Office, my mum went inside, I sat in the car. My fingers were hovering over the radio buttons, I was ready to change to any station - Radio 2, Capital FM, anything other than Radio 1. But Radio 2 has been playing Christmas songs too, and what if Capital has joined in? I hovered some more. Perhaps Nick would be nice and announce the song he was going to play, and if he did utter the words
Wham I would be able to quickly press the button for another station before I heard the song.
However, it was only The Pogues. I was safe.
But then I had another close call at school. Lots of forms are doing sales for charity, it's a challenge all forms have been set and my form isn't really doing anything. We get given £1 and we have to make as much money as possible out of it. We gave our £1 to a Year 9 who made an 80p loss by spending it on food for himself and came back with 20p for the form. My friend's form were selling hot chocolate, and she wanted us to go. But they were playing...
Christmas music. I said to her, "I can't go. I don't like hot chocolate and they're playing Christmas music!" in which she replied, "It's on a very low volume, so you won't hear it much."
"But if I hear Last Christmas by Wham!, I'm screwed!"
"Oh, don't worry, that's not on the playlist."
We didn't end up going for the hot chocolate anyway.
