I suppose I should stop posting little snippets, and just post my pseudo-report here. XD
Well, for starters, I was not happy to be in D2. I was running 3rd at Tsukuba, with the pace of the faster guys, so I was stunned at my rather poor superlap time. Then again, La Sarthe is always annoying for me to make a set for. Nevertheless, I was 11th fastest out of 15 with a mediocre 3:00.3.
The only target now was to simply win the D2 race. I didn't realise that I could've been up against Tony, so that sorta diminished my hope a little. My hopes were further falling when I saw that Masi and KamyKaze were also in this race. Goes to show how competitive this class now is, which is a huge bonus.
Before I start, according to my replay, I did my first stint on a set of intermediates. I didn't mean to, I was practicing in wet conditions before the race started. Either way, it wore out the fronts like mad, and it was stupidly difficult.
Sloth was on pole, the guy who gave me the car to participate in this series, and the guy I knew I could overtake on the first lap. (Sorry man, but I pulled it off at Tsukuba too, so I had hope.) I didn't expect the start to go as well as it did though. Me and Kaze immediately got past, with Masi following soon after. For the next three laps, less than half a second separated us at all stages, it was that throughout every single corner and straight for around 25 miles. Pretty incredible stuff to be a part of. And it would be easy to assume that D2 would be lacking in the racecraft department. Yeah, I was horribly wrong there (with the exception of Lynchy, but never mind).
Soon after that, the GT500s caught up to us. When you're on the narrow section after Mulsanne, it got really scary REALLY quickly. I decided to try and take advantage of this, although I didn't have to do anything much in order to do so. I held my line, let them pass me on the straights, and it was no big deal really...until I overtook two of them myself, that was really, really weird. Whilst the GT300s were clean from my perspective, I assumed that the 500s wasn't like that. It took nearly half an hour before I was behind 6 of them, and even then, I managed to pass a few again thanks to incidents. I saw that Paginas had to make 5 pitstops. I'm assuming three of them were damage.
I'm not going to lie, after lap six, I just decided to try and force a one-stopper, hoping that KamyKaze was going to do a two-stopper. He did, so I felt rather confident from then on. The tyres quickly degraded, not to mention the fact they never warmed up either, and laptimes quickly fell with them.
Lap ten, and I pitted. Kamy had overtaken me for the time being, but I was on a lighter load, as carrying fresh tyres. I figured that I might as well try to catch and overtake him before he pitted, but I just simply couldn't pull that feat off, he had got miles in front. Lap 13, he pitted, and I was pretty sure that I had won it from there. That was until the rain came, and my underwear turned a more brown colour. I was expecting a torrent to fall, and for me to slide off and probably die. Little did I realise that it was simply a little sprinkle, a teaser, and I was pleased I decided to stay out on slicks. I was slightly gutted that RedReevos, who easily won the GT500 race, managed to lap me towards the end, but he was the only one, and I reckon I can be rather pleased with a Division win, and a 1:46.4 fastest laptime!
So yeah, off to the Nürburgring...ah balls, I hate that track. ¬_¬
