If GT5 does incorporate a livery editor...

Ok cool. Well if it GT uses a similar system then that'd be alright.

I wonder what pixel resolution the skins would be produced at. hmm.

Edit: In forza, how does those elements work as far as scaling or resizing? Say you made something at certain size like a logo but made it bigger than you needed incase you wanted to use it differently next time. What kind of size limits are there? And when resized does the image get re-interpolated or does it just look jagged or wierd because of too much size change.

Or would you just make different sized versions of the same graphic?

Not that any of this will be how GT works if it does have a livery editor but just curious as to what exists and what I might be in for as far as usability.

In forza, when you select the vinyl group you want to use,
you can change it in size (it always stays in correct shape, you can't stretch it vertically or horizontally.)
you can spin it and you can move it. And the picture stays in good shape when resizing it.
I make my vinyl groups always huge, then resize them smaller, it's easier to make them more precise,
and there's no limits how small you can shrink it.

And if GT5 does have a similar livery editor, I'm gonna recreate few of my forza cars on it. Like my Mclaren mp4-9 themed Peugeot 207 S2000.
Or the zipper R33 race car. And many real life racing liveries.

Thanks for clarifing.

I really hope there will be a livery editor. Custom designed cars displayed in GT quality graphics would be so freakin sweet.

Same here. There is a limit to sharing liveries with other cars, and that's it has to be the same make and model. So you could have 5 350Z race tuned cars with 10 livery designs in your library, and freely call them up for each car in the paint shop. When I have different aero kits on each, I have to move my vinyls and decals around a bit to get them to fit, because each one is a slightly different shape, and has different headlight placement, intakes, exhaust placement and such.

If you wanted to, you could get around the sharing barrier between different makes by saving everything on each side of the car - top, right side, left etc - as a vinyl or design. It wouldn't fit very well, but you could plaster these designs on any car, and reshape the elements to fit on different models as a shortcut. That way, if you had a special trademark design, you could use this method to transfer it to any car you wanted to race with it.

Like the rest of you, I'm really hoping this kind of thing makes it into GT5...

If GT5 has a proper livery editor, I'm going to make stuff like this.

Hmm interesting. Might just do that.

Good point about having to tweak the elements when you mod your car, that could get annoying.

Not an important feature to me per se, but I know there is alot of people who want it.

The only thing I am after is the ability to paint your car once your purchase it.

for me, if i was going to do anything intricate, it would have to be well thought out and easy to use (unlike NFS Shift :banghead: )... if it is, i would like to make some of my cars a tribute to martini racing... and of course gulf colors as well... what i do most of the time however is just create entirely new paint schemes... so who knows....

I don't remember who said they were gonna do the Bruno senna f430, but I've started on it again for fm3. Hopefully we can do it in gt5. Just go here to see it.

No livery editor has been announced so far - a bit disappointing.
What, despite the 1000 cars, day/night transitions, headtracking and 3D support and everything else that was announced for a game and you're still disappointed by a lack of announcement about a feature that has only been rumoured?

Oh please let there not be a livery editor! I'd hate to see a beautiful car ruined with awful paint job.
It should be a rule that if someone crosses a Ferrari with a livery from THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, you are free to declare open season on them without penalty.

I actually prefer the "plain jane" version, it's a classic shape not to be tampered with.............

+1 👍

Have to have this one, first Bathurst I remember watching. 👍

I'm surprised we've not seen this livery on a R32 before in Gran Turismo. It's the defining livery for the Skyline's introduction onto the world stage.

What I would love is the livery editor from NFS Carbon, I'm surprised no-one mentioned it.

It had the obvious decals for the sides, but what it also had was autosculpt.

Autosculpt, where one could take one of about eight basic desgins for the front bumper, bonnet, rear bumper, spolier, side skirts and wheels and then modify them to suit your needs by making bits bigger/smaller until you thought it was right.

That and it had bodykits like every other nfs game, but that would be an option if you wanted to recreate racing car bodies, e.g. JGTC bodykit, DTM, etc...

Wishful thinking, but if it is in the game... I will love it

Here's an example of how someone (tried) to make the Ford GT LM Spec II(?) from GT4

Here's an example of how it was used - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnWTfHvi3Yk

Granted that one is hideous, but think of the possiblities

I am not expecting anything near this to be incorporated, but just imagine it...

Yeah, Autosculpt was a superb idea, just executed in a slightly poor way. You think it would have caught on, though.
