Thank's man! Will certainly try to improve and go for the win tonight since I got colleced on someone's mistake on lap 1 on Monday's race wich left me 32 seconds behind the leaders on a race I had the pace for a 3rd place finish...

remember that winning the championship is a marathon and not a sprint (ho ho ho....racing pun intended)

edits-> gratz to you above guy! You like the Skippy then I take it

So I'm coming back from my break. What you guys suggest for Class D--- skippy or Ford mustang? I've owned 2 ford mustangs GT in my past and put some mods on them (real life I'm talking bout). However I was very naughty and all I did was street race them. So I doubt my skillz will transfer over into iRacing.

I am thinking that skippy is great for a not-so-awesome driver like myself. Cause I can see the wheels, etc. Plus the Skippy uses the new tire model. The mustang doesnt I'm assuming....

Mustang for sure. The skippy doesnt handle anything like real life. And I can vouch for that.

The Skippy is an awful car if you don't feel confident in your abilities....

I don't understand why you think this, care to explain?

Compared to the star mazda and higher open wheel cars the skippy is much easier to correct slides in.

The Skippy is easier to correct because of it's radial tires. Radial tires grip doesn't fall off that much when you drive over the tires capabilities. In slick tires if you over drive the tires the grip suddenly drops off. Thus making slick tires more difficult to drive if you don't know where the limit is. When I had to do the Skip Barber 3 day and 2 day adv school so I could run in the series they taught me that.

Huh?

Radial vs non-radial tires depends on the angle of the cords in the carcass and the plane of the tire. The point being radial has nothing to do with the tread of the tire.

You can still have Radial Slicks im sure, its do with the construction of the tyre not the tread.

Yes, I realize that the true difference between radials and slicks is the construction of the chords within the tire. But when you speak to people radials are generally seen as treaded and slicks are seen as flat.

It´s also not true that slicks let go quicker then grooved tires.

Slicks are way more progressive in their letting go the street tires. Mainly because it´s more tire hitting the tarmac.

The mustang in game has slicks on (or near slicks (r-tires). The reason why the Star Mazda lets go so quickly is because of it´s downforce.

Take that Mazda and put on street tires and you would never be able to catch the rear when it loses grip.

If you would put slicks on the Skippy you would have a much harder time even getting the car sideways in the first place.

With slicks the difference is that you have a larger patch of rubber on the ground. That´s why it´s impossible for a grooved tire with the same rubber mixture to perform better or have more grip in any situation as a slick tire.
It´s impossible frankly.

MY bad did the New Tire Model get applied to all cars? I am getting caught up on iracing 2.0 news. I went on vacation right before it launched.

HPD ARX-01c - Ford GT - Skip Barber.

You should also note that the only reason we even have grooved tires in this world is because of the weather.

If it never rained, snowed or anything else, only nice warm weather we would all be driving around on slicks.

I have tried and tried to get the hang of the Skippy, but I just cannot get consistent time and laps in the car. I seem to spin a lot in it, despite being smooth with the throttle and brake, and I've even reduced the braking rate so that it isn't as sensitive, but I can't get a hold of it. Whereas the Mustang as more predictable and reliable, and I find it an easier car to drive and hustle. As for the Star Mazda, I don't know, I haven't driven it yet.

To me the thing with the Skippy is to brake early and keep always at least some acceleration on the corner. It became much easier to drive it after I learned that and I've been enjoying it a lot.

Edit: Here's a video I've made that shows my style of driving it:
