Just finished my first official Mustang race, I started 14th and finished 5th. I did no overtaking on purpose, I simply sat behind one guy for most of the race. On about lap 12 someone spun out entering the straight and because of that guy I went from 10th to 6th. The guy I had been following all race was getting sloppy and sure enough he spun out on the top of the hill (limerock) which put me into 5th. I was about 3 seconds behind the guy in 4th before I got stuck in traffic from people who were 3 laps behind refusing to move out of the way which had me finishing 6 seconds after him.

All of the and I only got one inc point. Some people had up to 19 .

EDIT: Started 10th and finished 3rd just then. One thing I have noticed is that D license drivers and above are so much nicer to race with, you can race in tight packs of 3 or 4 with absolutely no contact at all, I just wish races were more often..

Hi guys. Quick newb question:

I purchased my first high powered cars last night; when I tested the Ford Falcon and Formula Mazda I was getting a lot of wheel vibration/shake at high speeds. Is this normal? I searched and installed other people's setups to see if the wheel shake went away, but it didn't.

Since I got iRacing I've been using the MX-5 and Solstice almost exclusively and never got any wheel shake on a smooth surface at speed. I also bought and raced the FR500S Mustang at Lime Rock and didn't get a wheel shimmy.

Anyone have any thoughts? If the wheel shake is an intended part of the simulator used to "emulate" speed, it's very annoying. :grumpy:

My wheel is a Thrustmaster T500RS by the way.

Thanks for any suggestions guys! 👍

I've never felt that problem before. Or maybe i'm just used to it. Could be 1 of 3 things.

1. Your settings in game could be all wrong

2. T500RS have had problems in the past. It's the reason i'd never buy one.

3. Could be the fact that the Star Mazda and Ford Falcon have a stiffer suspension than the FR500S and Miata. So when you hit a bump it's a bit amplified. As it should be.

Thanks Shinny. It's definitely not a rough track. It happens at the back straight in Road Atlanta and after Eau Rouge (spelled correctly?) on the long straight. It's like the front wheels go out of balance around 120 to 140mph then it goes away again.

It must be a wheel setting or something. It looks like I may need to take this question to the techies on the iRacing forum. I hope they can help, it's insanely annoying!!

I hate flat spotting tires and throwing wheels weights in real life, I don't want to enjoy those luxuries of racing in a sim too. LOL!

search for t500 settings in iracing on google.

i have a t500 aswell and i love that thing!
hate the pedals though, can't beat the CSP's on a budget ;)

Thanks Hampus, I got some general settings off the forum when j got started but maybe I need to look for newer stuff. I never tried Google. Good thought.

Like vibrates back and forth? Describe exactly what the steering wheel does. Depending on what it does you can maybe only change one or two things.

Eau Rouge is spelled correctly. But I believe you are referring to the Kemmel straight?

iracing has recommended settings, i use those so if you are using the same it could be that your in game ffb value is set to high.

set damping to 0 and ffb to 5-8 (in game), it will probably feel light in the beginning but eventually you will get used to it.
if you already have this then im afraid you wheel might be something fishy with.

latest drivers for t500?

Shinny, it's like the front tires are out of balance, or I'm on a dirt road. Massive vibrations, but it starts at a certain speed then goes away after a certain speed. It's totally bizarre.

Hampus, I'll recheck my FFB values when I get home and compare our settings. I also have the latest firmware and updates. I check often hoping for a new update to get rid if the small dead zone in the brake pedal that annoys me. :)

Thanks for the help guys, I'm sure it's some setting that I missed. I'm just relieved it's not how iRacing intended it to be. LOL!

Hampus, you're a stud! I had my ffb in game at 30, which I guess was way to high. I moved it down to 12.5 and fixed the Star Mazda at Spa. I'm going to test the other fast cars, but now I know what to work on in case the issue comes back.

Thanks a million!!!

My damping is at 62 . That's what it felt like on my wheel before they introduced the option and I am not one to change.

Here is a quick video of me pulling a surprise double overtake in the mustangs :).

Thanks :).

I just had a really intense race with an international racer, the last lap was nearly a photo finish. Another guy in the lobby recognised me from here, hopefully he posts so that I can put a username to the racer .

Haha yer it was me Kyle, was watching the relative timer and saw your times with that guy were always within 1 second. Shame you couldn't hold it on lap 19 turn 1. Next time mate

Yeah I was talking to a guy in my room at the time and broke in a little too late, such is life .
I hope to race you and him again though, you won did you not?

Yer managed to come first, trying to get my sr up so I can get to a B license, don't know how people manage sub 59's on limerock in the mx5 though, seems we both have some practice to do. anyway I'll add you as a friend when im on next. Good racing

I am doing the race in 7 minutes if you read this in time. I am trying to get my SR up with a mixture of Mazda and Mustang so I can get C license and drive the V8's. The key to doing sub 59's I think is draft, other then that you must be insanely quick or something.

Haha I read it In time, have to go to work though, and when I finish work I'm heading straight for bed, going the v8 supercars at Phillip island tomorrow :)

no problems! would be a shame to not fully exploit what the t500 can do :)

0 damping is also best because it lets through all the details.
you should run the fdb strength at 45-48% in windows aswell. maximum linear force without clipping.

12 in the game is a little to much still (proven) it will osscillate with that much force so work your way down to 10 or below it, trust me you wont feel it after a few laps, ffb will stil be strongl but it will showcase all the details iracing want you to feel :)

Gave the Ford Falcon a run for the first time tonight and wow. I love that car. The Mustang and the Falcon are officially my favorite cars.👍 Guess you could call me biased to the Fords.:sly: But really, I love the way both cars handle and drive. Hope the NTM(whenever that comes to them:rolleyes:)won't change my mind too much.:scared:

I'm on a smilie rampage. I'm tired. Stayed up too late driving the Falcon. Here's a few more.:lol::lol:

So I just drove for 30mins in the Time Trial under the impression I would get lots of SR as I would a perfect race. No, that wasnt the case, it was a proper waste of time, +0.03 .

EDIT: Just started in 6th, finished 1st and with one incident. Got .11 SR which puts me on 3.98, I will finish the job tomorrow, after work :).

Are you talking about the MX5 there? I have a video on YouTube that shows a 58.711. I am in chase cam and I left the gas/brake info on so you might want to take a look at my line and brake/acceleration points :tup;

That sounds good, can you post the YouTube link??

I've joined a league with this guy who has a few lap records on the game. So I'm going to save the replays so I can always see his lines.

you need his replays, you cant watch him on your own replay because it's not accurate :)

My links are in the iRacing Videos thread: 2nd or 3rd to last post.

Are you talking about Jan Coomans? I would tell you: You better be extremely fast because if not, you won't be able to follow him... :sly: like everyone lol!

Yeah 30 FFB strength on a T500 RS would be insanely strong and almost undrivable. At the most I usually go up to like 20

Shhiny, those are some cool pics btw 👍

Thanks! I'm going to upload a new video. I found the quickest lap that I ran that week I was at Laguna. It really shows the method of driving the car the quickest as the instructors tell you. I also included a few epic slides :D

Oh and I'm back on iRacing. So i'm not really sure when skippy is at Laguna but just let me know.

Laguna is coming up at 10-4-2011. Just a few weeks. I'll go try it now to see what kind of time I get and compare with your video. 👍

(Btw, I dont suppose you have a replay file? Maybe when we meet up I can make replay)

* but then if I make it, it'll have lag ouch

20 will cause massive ocsillation and remove alot of the details but i guess thats your choice.
your not using all of the ffb iracing wants yiu to feel with that much ffb.
