I have a question about iRacing...

What is the situation with Traction Control?

1)Can it be used in races?

No Traction Control in any car... because there is no such thing in real life either. Mustang has ABS and that's only 'aid' in whole game I think, and 'auto-clutch' and 'blip', cause many guys dont have clutch-pedal.

There are no stock production cars in the game. It's all race-purpose built, so there is no traction control. I think its lame.

Thanks for the answers guys. I guess that nips that in the bud :)

Masi...what are you saying that you think is lame...Traction Control, or the fact that it's not there. Please clarify.

And thank god it isn´t... TC? come on this is racing through and through.

Only aid in a car is the Mustangs ABS AutoAki said, but even that seems to live it´s own little life lol.

New article about the Williams FW31 coming up,

http://www.inracingnews.com/iracing-news/the-att-williams-f31-–-more-and-less-than-meets-the-eye/

And just so people understand just how advanced it will be, check this out.

“A lot of work goes into the background that says ‘When I hit this button it should make something change on the dash and then affect the physics of the car.’ And the FW31 has a whole bunch of those knobs from differential knobs to an engine braking knob to engine power, so on and so forth. Those have all been built into our FW31.”

A race car doesn't necesarily have TC banned, the real lfe C6.R has TC for example so do all GT1, GT2 and LMP cars.

I just remembered thread about this subject in iRacing forums. One problem about simulating C6R's TC is how to make it 100% accurate. Naturally Chevrolet ain't going to share their real code... that's how some people were thinking about nature of this issue.

imo, kind of small flaw. I would not use TC anyway, and most of others were thinking same.

I know I can use it fine and wouldn't switch it on. It would however be interesting to try it and is a small blip in the accuracy of iracing.

Wait...did you just non-deliberately confirm that iRacing is planning on doing the Long Beach F1 track? Where did you get this info?

Sorry about not answering this. But its long beach the track used for the ALMS and Indy car. They have the actual track done but they dont have any of the suroundings done. They have been pushing it back for almost 2 years now because of the resources needed to run the track at a decent frame rate or so im told. If you search the old forums you can find some of the pictures from pros coming in and running the unfinished track. also some of the laser scans from it.

some of there old promotional shots i found with a quick google search.

But on to another subject how did everyone do in the petit Lemans world tour event? Managed to pull out a 1st in class this time after having a premature end from 3rd with 30 mins to go in the first race.

One year is possible, the reason Long Beach takes so long is because it´s been halted a number of times in favour for other tracks like Spa etc.

It would take about a month to scan the green hell.

GT5 delayed = iRacing will be renewed since my current sub ends on Nov 4th.

I thought with the delay of GT5 there would be more activity in this thread.

I gave iRacing a loooong break and have been playing a lot of F1 2010 lately. I logged back on a few days ago and saw Lime Rock Park as a race available, my favorite track, and as a result I think I'm going to hop back in iRacing.

laser scanned tracks = addiction on the level of pure nicotine

Unfortunately money is a bit tight now, but I think maybe I can swing a 1 year sub with no cars or tracks. Maybe a 3 month sub with Infineon, Silverstone, the FW31 (which I won't be able to drive outside of testing for a long time anyways) and C6R.

By chance, does anyone know about any promos for current customers :sly:

Still want to finish F1 2010 though  we need more hours per day!

Thanks for posting info regarding this event Mad 👍 I would like to join in if possible - do I need to join a team to be able to participate?

BTW, I have a lot of experience (and feel most comfortable) in the C6R but I rather play with you guys at the front with the Riley as it is ~2 seconds a lap quicker around Road America. I'll have to start getting some much needed seat time in this thing though :ill:

No you do not need to be in a team. You can participate under no team or make one like (timeattack racing) or something. If you're interested you may even be able to get another GTPlanet driver to make a GTPlanet racing team for the event and skin some cars with GTPlanet liveries.

There isn't many entries for now so you can basically run what ever you like. 👍 Riley at the moment has the most competition by far obviously. But because each class also has $15 iracing credit up for grabs for the winner, think about what car you drive for that reason as well.

Would be nice to see a few international drivers join, but we know it will be hard with the huge time zone difference.

Williams fw31 formula 1 car comes out tuesday. cant wait. the most realistic impression you get of an f1 car without a teams simulator or being in the actual damned car.

i wish more gt5:P players knew about iracing because it deserves a lot more attention than it gets.

im relatively new to iracing just working my way up the ranks. currently racing solstice and skip barber. but hoping to move to dallara and f1 by xmas.

Yeah, can't wait for the Williams FW31. It will be fantastic... Bring on October 28. :D

2010 Season 3 was my first season (signed up at Week 13 of Season 2, 2010). I managed to grab P1 in Division 3 in the V8 Supercar and at the moment am 2nd in Division 6 for the Mustang. Licensing wise I went from Rookie 2.50 to A Class 4.76 with an iRating of 4100 (as of right now). So for me it was a very good season of racing. I've really enjoyed iRacing. Almost everything about it is fantastic.

Hope to race a few more guys from GTPlanet next season. :)

Awesome progress Mad! You'll be a Pro driver next year!! 👍

iRacing was the first sim I ever tried after my first online experience driving GT5P. I wanted a more realistic and higher quality racing experience and iRacing delivered in spades. Based on what I have seen from the guys who are registered GTP racers and the type of quality racing they want, iRacing would be great for them. It is so much better than Gran Turismo on every level except the selection of cars. But my experience is that most Gran Turismo / Forza guys have a funny kind of unconditional loyalty and they generally are not open-minded to genuinely give it a shot. I also think there is the perception of inaccessibility and intimidation because of complexity (car setups and difficulty) and the requirement for a reasonably capable PC. At least that was how I felt before I just jumped in.

With all that said, I am looking forward to GT5 coming out so I can race for fun and laughs with all the GTP guys here and the San Francisco Bay Area guys that still throw LAN parties on GT4 .

Couldn't say better! 👍

I really hope iRacing sends me out another code for 3 months for the price of 1 month when my subscription runs out.
I just gained my D license the other day and I am nearly up to C license.
Mainly racing in the Solstice but now a bit more in the Skip Barber which is pretty fun.
It's a pity it costs quite a bit though. I hope prices for cars and tracks come down even further or else I can see myself just grinding the Solstice for all the SR it is worth to try and get my SR up.
I'm a fairly mid-pack racer but I got my first win in the Solstice last week and my PB on LS is gradually coming down (now at 1:51s).

But yeah... Nice work Mad-mate. 👍

I have a few n00bish questions I hope you don't mind answering....

1)Does iracing have qualifying before official races? If so, how long is the qualy time?

2)If yes to #1, do you get grid penalties the way you do in F1 2010 if you run over a curb or take a shortcut?

3)Does iRacing have tire wear? If so, how often do tires wear down? I mean, in what lap do you usually need to change them?

4)Can you give a brief overview of the penalty system? I mean, I know there is a strict rating system, but what about penalties? Does the game deduct points from you when you run over curbs or get caught in a collision? How harsh are they? Are they harsh to the point where you pretty much have to tiptoe around the track?

5)Is there a pit crew man that talks to you during the races? Or is there no chatter whatsoever?

Thanks in advance :)

To be straight forward with some of your questions based on the little time I spent racing the races live:

1. Yes. Believe it depends on how long the race organizer sets it
2. There can be, again depends on the race organizer
3. Yes there is tire wear, it depends on what car you drive

1. Yes, 30 minutes in advance. Qualifying sessions are 20 minutes in duration and does include Safety Rating.

2. As soon as you get an incident (off track, collision, spin etc) your lap will NOT be counted. If you cut the track it tells you to slow down (you lose about 5 seconds doing so). So it is impossible to cheat.

3. Yes, there is tyre wear. It affects some cars more than others. The Rookie cars (Solstice, spec racer and Legend) aren't that affected by tyre wear. But as you go through the ranks and drive more powerful cars such as the V8 Supercar (probably the worst on tyres for road racing) you can actually blow them in a 25 lap race if you're not careful. Locking tyres is really easy to do in the V8 and you can blow tyres. So yes there is tyre wear, but it does affect some cars more than others.

4. The penalty system is fairly harsh, but makes you a better driver. I found after coming from GT and rFactor dropping wheels off the road everywhere I was getting lots of "off track x1" penalties. It penalises you if you put two wheels off about a metre. Light car collisions with other cars and walls are x0 contact (nothing). You get a x2 loss of control penalty if your car rotates 90 degrees to the proper direction of racing. x2 contact if you hit a wall and finally a x4 contact if you hit another car. But no you do not have to tiptoe around the track. It may take some getting used to at the start, but it makes for clean racing in the end because on most public servers all you get is divebombing and a lot of car to car contact on other sims.

5. Your pit crew does a little bit on default. But I installed a new plugin that gives me more information. The default is your spotter as well as telling you when you're running out of fuel. But the plugin I've got tells you a little bit more.

I hope that helps. 👍 :)

That will be so good. Can't wait for the Williams to be released. From what i've seen the new build is coming out Wednesday night NSW, Australian time with the Williams and MX-5 being released approximately 1 hour later. But I haven't read up too thoroughly on the topic yet.

Here's the video embedded.
