So, I decided to try another paint, the problem is that these new templates can't be unlocked by PSE or gimp that I can see, so I can't use the wireframe or number blocks and such. Are any of you more familiar with gimp so I can properly unlock the layer group?

I used to open the file in gimp, save it then open it in PSE and the layers would all show.

Using GIMP 2.8 with no issues. Opening up PSD files. The layers are all there. Just gotta turn them on to use.

Latest Paint: (I'm slightly addicted to painting)

Thanks to @Dragonwhisky this is my preferred drink.

Slight change on my Chivas Regal paint job. Added the gold pin stripe seperating the blues.

As well my current work in progress. Brewster Baker (Six Pack Movie) Super Stock tribute. I got the basic lay out done tonight. Wanna thicken the red stripe, darken the blue, chase decals and add them. Will post final product.

After that I plan to do a Police RUF or two. We shall see. Snow coming and kids be home. So I'll be home.

Hi!

Here's my first serious paint I've made for iRacing. Took me a while since I'm still learning the tool. I will use it this season during Spec Racer challenges, as I want to focus primarily on them.

Any comments are much appreciated!

Thanks!

I like it! Not really my style of paint but, for a new painter, everything is really crisp and clean so, I'd say that you don't have much more to learn! 👍

Thanks a lot! I still struggle with the pen tool, it gives me a hard time when trying to make a nice, curvy shapes. But it'll come in time. ;)

If you like using the pen tool. And want slightly more advanced options with it. Using Illustrator to make curved lines is often much easier to do.

For those interested. Because of falling in love with the HPD, again. I will finally make a paint scheme for it :) Hopefully I won't get too frustrated with the template, like I have in the past.

Work in progress of course. Got the basics done. My identification color for my team. Carbon Fiber where Carbon Fiber is needed. Michelin Logos. ect.

Now begins the hard part. I am going to suck it up and take the time to make this my most realistic looking paint ever. Just what I have done so far has taken me 2 hours. The little things are going to make this car look so close to real I hope it actually fools people. The Aero fins on the front are only yellow highlight on the top, the bottom is carbon fiber. The part of the fin that connects to the main body, is carbon fiber. The bolts that connect it I have painted a metallic silver. All out stuff! haha.

Slowly gettind addicted to painting cars... This time a livery with a Polish oil company - Lotos - as the main sponsor. I tried to keep the car's design in the sponsor's colors. Feel free to comment. Thanks!

Here's my new SLM paint, I got the mustang graphics from the forum, they've got all sorts of cool decal sets. There's a lot of surface area on the SLM and I had trouble filling the majority because I didn't have any real theme but I think it looks decent considering my lack of skills .

Well. I've got a Version 1 of this paint finished. Only took about 17 total hours lol. Person at iRacing that came up with the Template for the HPD needs to be fired immediately. Once I get Version 2 ready. I'll post it here and let you guys decide which I should be using!

The second shot is jaw-dropping... Stunning!

what do you guys think, I played with the metallic layers from the forum a little, I'm learning!:)
there's a little bit of banding in the paint.

To be honest photobucket kills the resolution aka quality so much it's hard to see. Might I suggest Flickr which doesn't reduce the quality or size. You link full size. Forum will shrink but we can click picture and expand it to full res.

Btw the scheme is looking good.

Personally don't think that it makes a huge difference IMO. Mine are placed in the threads by Photobucket and seem to be a similar quality to the Flickr photos.

Try clicking one of my iRacing pics above.

If you have a paid photobucket account you get high res however free account indeed destroys the quality.

Do as you will just something I was shown and when I seen it. I said screw photobucket. I was advices flickr and since been very pleased.

Per example. I clicked your picture and clicked the zoom on photobucket then used my phone to zoom in as far as could. Then went and clicked my pics and zoomed them in to a similar size. Which I had lots more zoom. I could zoom into the 27 only showing on the chivas car number plate. Anyway. Hopefully you see what I see with this example.

what you see there is exactly as I saw it on the sim, I have a tough time getting clean lines. That Ruf is the first Paint that I figured out how to paint over the patterns properly. I know very little about Gimp so I do what I can in Gimp then transfer it to Photoshop elements which is not suited for this kind of work at all. It's like the step above an iPhone app. I was hoping I could get CS4 for cheap since CS6 and CC are out but no it's still $400, if you look at the SLM above and compare it to the Ruf, the Ruf looks way better because of it. as for logos, I just drag and drop JPegs and they look like crap. I don't know how to do it properly, I try to find .PNGs but most of the time I can't. speaking of which, where can I find a large club logo, the only one I've found is 111x161

Yeah gimp is awesome, and it's free to boot. There's a bunch of video tutorials on youtube too just about making paints with gimp so definitely check those out!
