Something to take note of for the Spa race, the start/finish line is halfway up the grid (16th place is the first car behind it if it was a grid start), rather than being the white line in front of the first grid slot. Everyone will have to double up very quickly after the final chicane to be double file in time for the start.

Can't wait to try these cars at Spa, tomorrow evening for sure.

Sorry Joe, after I logged off earlier and was running out the door, I thought all I needed to do was set spa in my lobby.

Didn't compute in time, sorry mate :dunce:

I'll probably still have incompatability issues for the pre-season race (don't know when we'll be able to get a new router. Hopefully before the end of the month), so I probably won't be able to see about 1/3 of the field. If the thing happens where absolutely everyone else's cars disappear leaving only me on track on my screen, I'll finish the race anyway and tell you my overall time for the race so that I can be placed in the finishing order correctly.

But there is a problem you might ram somebody... :(

Nope that can't happen. If you can't see someone, they can't see you either. Because of this, other racers may well see both drivers on the exact same piece of track, since they can't make contact with each other or draft off of each other.

Also, for the rule that says we must have 2 tyres on the track at all times, are we counting the curbs as part of the track? They usually are, though if the curb is really wide, you're not normally allowed all 4 wheels on it (only applies to curbs the inside of a corner). I'm asking because the answer will determine my lines through some corners (only a few though, since the FGT doesn't like most curbs).

EDIT: Based on something I noticed while tyre testing at two tracks, I can easily come up with my strategies for every other road course race. Yaaaaay 👍

I doubt anyone will give away any strategies to anyone other than their teammates, but I will say that the only race that I will probably 2 stop on (assuming I don't have to pit for any damage) is Laguna Seca.

I drove at Spa today in Foreign rooms, even though it has not been released here. The FGT really comes alive at Spa, with its incredible top speed (compared to the Ferrari F1s). Knocked off a couple 1.44s in a full power max downforce FGT with comfort hards; before the japanese room host kicked me. I think it was a drifting room or something. They were all on comfort hard tires and all sitting in the middle of the track having picnics.

FGT is awesome at spa, I got a 1.44.201 yesterday on RS so your flying on comforts 👍

Tom - Wed is best for me but probably can make tuesday :)

The F10 is a great drive around Spa but doesnt have the raw power (and therefore the top speed) of the FGT, from memory they are about 250hp or so short. Dig your FGT out, apply a tune and see if you can hit a 1.43 :)
👍

It will be great to have a pre-season race taking place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. I can't wait for that!

But I wanted you to make some things clear to me:

1. Which specs are we supposed to use on this race? Is there a defined one, like we have for all other races?

2. I think we should... practice this pace lap thing. At least with me. I am completely new to this, I have never done it before, and I am afraid I might mess everyone's race with a stupid mistake.

3. Who has Spa as Lounge's default track? I might hop on from time to time!

3. Who has Spa as Lounge's default track? I might hop on from time to time!

TomMcD currently has it as default in his lounge. I believe we're using our usual road course settings of 650bhp and 725kg (set the weight restriction to 720kg because it only moves in tens, but make sure your car is at 725kg.) As for the transmission, reset it to default and then set max speed (the one at the bottom right) to 205mph. Changing this number, the final gear, and/or 7th gear will give you a different transmision setting (in terms of max speed in the draft), so don't change any of those settings. Gears 1-6 can be changed all you want.

A near perfect lap with the road course settings can get you into the low 1:54's or high 1:53's . (I practiced for a bit in Tom's lounge after working out our transmission setting for Spa.) Don't worry if you're not that close to low 1:54's, the drivers in this series are all of varying skill levels.

As for the pace lap, our road course pace laps are at a maximum speed of 70mph for the pace car. The pace car will have to slow down on some corners because it can't take them as quickly as FGTs can. Basically we follow the pace car round for a lap in single file, and then go double file after the final chicane, as it's too narrow to go double file through without contact or cutting the chicane. The race starts as soon as the 2 cars at the front cross the line.

If you want to practice a pace lap, I own the pace car and could lead you round for a lap if you want. I won't be able to simulate having you go double file after the last corner without having another driver available to practice with us.

I probably can, especially once I actually own the track and can do more runs on it. I will know every turn then and will know my entry and exiting speeds upon cornering.

You may have missed this Tom:

As for practicing, I probably won't be on until about 8pm at the earliest.

I think when it comes to wheels on the track, it should 2 on the actual tarmac. I found a random pic on google to illustrate my point.

With this rule you can still have a lot of the car on the rumble strips, as shown on the picture. And as far as I know this is the rule in most forms of motorsport. Tha final chicane is particularly awkward at Spa, but it shouldn't be too hard to follow this rule 👍

Tell me if this doesn't make sense :P

With that illustration it clearly shows an advantage with taking the corner wide. So to say now before we race...if you ever see me in that situation it's because I have lost control, I would never line up half on the track to take a corner faster. Now that is a good example and illustrates cheating.

It'll be hard to do that anyway, since the FGT doesn't like most curbs. The only ones it seems ok on that I remember are one corner at Tokyo, one corner at another of our road courses, and some of the flat curbs at Spa.

But he does (for the purpose of this) still have 2 wheels on the track and this is the rule for most series. And yeah I agree, I don't purposefully take corners like this for one reason, if you're on the rumble strips they slow you down right?

EDIT: And anyway as Joe said, it won't be much of a problem really.

As long as grip reduction is set to real I don't believe this will be anyones prefered line unless in one particular spot you can really haul it on the rumble stripe, idk haven't tested. But yea its legal, just frowned upon in my book. I say go ahead and drive like that and I hope you eat the grass too LOL. (Just messin around)

Yep grip is set to Real, and that is clearly not the racing line that I'll be using haha :P

Yeah, I'd tried to use the outside curb to help my entry to the final chicane at Spa, but I span out as soon as I touched it, as I was still braking.

EDIT: I say span out, but it was more of a controlled sideways slide cutting through the whole last chicane.

I appreciate your concern. I will add you in my PSN and we can set a date that fits both to practice this.

I will do some practicing late night today.

You drifted the chicane in a FGT how cool, only DrifterJoe can take that line LOL!!

I'll add you when I'm next free at about 8pm (just over 2 hours time).

Hopefully my internet cooperates and we're not incompatible.

I don't have the DLC yet, so we'll probably have to use Tom's lounge.

You should've seen the save I did coming out of Eau Rouge when I messed up my line one time, I turned it from a massive spin/crash into a drift that seemed to take forever to end. :sly:

EDIT: sorry for double post, I swear that when I clicked reply, my previous post was before his. >__>

Hahaa drifting the FGT sounds dangerous  Guys, even if Berty's FGTC boys do sign up, we could still do with more drivers. So once again, tell everybody you know about this! 👍

On a side note unrelated....why is that so important here at GTP? I personally think if you create a thread or are a part of a thread and post significant info that a double or triple post rule is irrelevent IMO. Its not like you are talking to yourself or trying to bump it up. I can see this rule applying if you are just being down right irritating to other GTP'ers, and I don't mean the winers/trolls either who have 1000s of posts pretty much filled in with ne-andering complaints.

Well I think to deter those irritating people from quadruple posting etc. etc., the rule has to apply to everyone unfortunately. That seems the most likely explanation.

And 1:54's at Spa?! Oh god. Either my driving skills are horrific (most likely), I need a better tune, or both cause' I'm only managing about 1:57-8 :( I just get oversteer coming out of every corner, wish this thing would grip more.

I'm using max aero on the car. The more aero you take off, the more the car understeers into and through corners, and the more it oversteers coming out of corners. As well as slowing your laptimes, it also wears the tyres faster. My potential fastest lap yesterday was a 1:53.8xx on comfort mediums (from my best sector times. My best overall lap was something like a 1:54.2xx). Fuelwise, I'd used about half a tank. So on a full tank that 1:54.2xx would be more like a 1:54.7xx . I was also driving rather close to the limit, in a race I'd be slightly more careful.
