^ I heard the chattering too but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Tires chatter in the real world too, but it does mean they're about to cross their traction limits. I put a lot of steering input into the car to get around Monaco, at the hairpin I was shuffle steering like crazy and went down to first gear. I found the key was to be a little late getting on the throttle, let the car coast as it rotated through the turn and then ease back onto the throttle. There were several sections where going into them slower (almost felt too slow) resulted in much greater exit speed and thus lower lap times.

ok then, as mentioned earlier here are some snaps from last night...

Sitting comfortably in 5th, I have the racing line into turn 1....

It's a clean start,

However I leave to much room, and Brutaka gets along side for a drag up the hill...

its wheel to wheel going into Casino

Brutaka comes of best, and the chase is on...!

Côte d'Azur_28.jpg

pushing too hard out of the hairpin, I clip the curb and bounce off into a spin...

pushing hard with a clear track, I manage to catch up with only a handful of laps remaining...

Some tense moments ahead, i wait to strike

really pushing each other, perhaps 1 final drag up the hill and the position could be mine...

mistakes were made by both, but fortune favored me this time...

but Brutaka was not giving up without a fight, and kept pushing

using every last inch of tarmac... the pressure was on, right up to the last few corners

a hard fought race, to take back fifth place..

Respect earned to a worthy adversary, for when we next meet on the wide planes of the Autumn Ring.

I had a good time for a bit there, but I was not at all able to wring another second or two out of the car to stay competitive. My laps were relatively consistent but I was definitely missing pace. May be the track as it is one I enjoy but not one I am very quick on.

I did notice I had a great deal of understeer on the back side of the track at the 180 degree hairpin plus the entry on to the back straight. I could honestly feel the front end of the car chattering. I checked the rules and it appears I am not permitted to fit the adjustable suspension so I do not know how to eliminate that chatter unless I change my driving habits, perhaps a different line selection.

Anyway, I never step back from a challenge so we will see how I do next week, looking forward to the next race. Thank you for hosting and organizing this event.

Thanks for showing up JMR! good to have you there! the understeer is the same for everyone, and everyone has their own techniques of dealing with it. Personally I brake early so I don't inertia shift to the front as much on corner entry and then throttle early in order to provoke oversteer - that being said I came third at the end of the day so perhaps that isn't the best idea, at least not at Monaco ;).

^ Braking early pays off in spades, especially at Monaco......presuming it doesn't get you rear-ended. :nervous: One key spot was at the top of the hill, the left-hander before the casino (Massenet). If you brake early it settles the car down before going over the crest and you float through very smoothly. If you're still braking when you go over the crest it upsets the car and makes it hard to get through that twisty bit. I picked up at least a half second by braking early for that turn, which resulted in a much faster exit for the downhill straight.

I'm happy to help, this is a great group and a really fun car to race so hopefully a few shiny bits will attract a few more drivers.

Looking forward to Autumn Ring where's there's more run-off room and less armco.

Holding a practice room at 10pm GMT on Wednesday if anyone wants to join. I'll probably have it open for around two hours.

I'm bummed that I will probably have to miss this weeks race. These little cars are great for this racing, not to mention everyone is really clean. Making some really great racing. Many people say iracing is the best sim out there, with possibly better physics than many sims, but mostly because of the clean racing and competition that it has, well somehow in a league with no official rules or stewards, we have just superb races. Thanks mc for a fantastic series, and thanks to everyone else for helping this to work so well. I look forward to the next race I'm in.

Hi Chase id love to join. My psn is ktrain186, can you add me.

6am?! That's some commitment right there! Can I ask where you're from?

(I'll drop you that add next time I'm on! :))

Haha I'm always up early anyway and I love the open awheelers. Might not always be able to make it

I've been thinking of starting a 6-speed Kart Spot Series similar to this one to run on either Wednesdays at 10pm GMT or to take over from the Sunday 10pm slot the Rocket Series currently holds (when this series finishes of course!). It would be nice to measure any potential interest in this. It'd be most focused on larger tracks than the tiny kart-designed ones, I've run a few tracks and the calendar might look a little something like this;

Monaco
London
Eiger Nordwand
SSR5 Clubman
Laguna Seca
Eiger Reverse
Indy Road Course
Trial Mountain

It would be nice to have Autumn Ring and Tuskuba on the list but the all-knowing PD has decided this isn't allowed .

Race rules would be similar to what we currently do but slipstream strength would always be real (although off entirely would be preferable!) and I'd probably cut race length to around 20/25 minutes each and run two per evening, the second race grid being a reverse-order grid based on the results from the first race.

Anyone feel like they'd be up for something like this?

I suspect my entry speed may have been to fast for the corners I was having difficulty with. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the tips, I think my techniques on that track need some practice. As I said, I like Monaco but it isn't my best track. These tips may help me so I will give it a try.

So how about that Kart series I mentioned ;)?

Karts sound good, but there other vehicles i would prefer to race with first!!! But ill give it a go, I'd race shopping trolleys if the competition is close and has the numbers.

Wednesdays and Mondays are normally busy for me though.

That sounds good but weeknights may be a problem. In Canada, our races on Sunday are around 2pm local time. Weekdays that time is right in the middle of my work afternoon. So yes I am in but it would need to be after the Rocket series as suggested.

Looks like it will be following the Rocket Series on Sundays then! Hopefully PD would have pulled their finger out and got more tracks eligible for Kart races by then too!

I might not be up for a Kart series just yet. I would love a summer Kart series however.

Don't worry if it's not your thing. The 'shifter' kart goes substantially better than the others though (give it a few laps around Eiger). Either way, it'll start at minimum after the Rocket Series has finished, which is like in over two months anyway.
