Lincoln Continental: 2016 Revival

Oh, how I hope it doesn't end up being just a rebadged Taurus, that will kinda annoy me.
It would fill the world with disappointment. My excitement meter went down a bit when it was going to be FWD, but then went up a teeny bit when it was going to be available with a FWD-based AWD system.

It would've been great if it was RWD. I'm sure that if Lincoln actually did make it RWD for production, it would get many gearheads' attention.

I agree, I would personally like to see it be RWD with AWD optional, like on the Dodge Charger.

Though, I can sort of understand why Lincoln would do something like this. I think it might be just to get more sales for northern parts of the US where things get snowy and rwd just doesn't seem as effective as FWD or AWD there. There's probably other reasons, but I wouldn't know as I don't really do that much research on the car market.

It's not that much has changed from concept, but what has kills much of my enthusiasm. Prime example of why the US automakers need to be rattled by competition. If only I had the funds.

That actually looks pretty neat. It's much less Bentley-ish than I thought it'd turn out. Maybe they had to tone it down for legal reasons.

I'd rather buy one of those than a 300C based on looks alone, so that's at least a step in the right direction. I'd never buy a lincoln though just because of those stupid gear buttons.

Looks no worse than the new Genesis boat being assembled in S. Korea. Actually it looks better to me, but that's a grainy image so once the auto show pictures come out, then I'll really judge it.

It looks OK, a bit to normal Ford'y but definitely does not look like what I think a Lincoln should look like.

i agree. Huge problem with huge percent of todays cars, especially american.

I still wonder where did originality get lost?

That isn't overtly original, either. Slap a Buick grille on it, a Mercury or Chrysler and it wouldn't look out of place.

It actually looks still quite similar to the concept model to me. Though yeah, I won't make any final judgements until I see a better picture of it from the North American International Auto Show.

I'm really curious to see what it looks like with more high def photos, from the blurry image I think I'm really going to like it but I'm not sure.

American cars need to look American in style IMO, take inspiration from that golden 60's Detroit era. You have to sell an idea or memory otherwise how is any different from an Audi? Ford got it right with the new Mustang so why did they get it kinda wrong with this!

They really should have made this one :indiff:

what engines it will have?

Probably the 2.0L or the 2.3L EcoBoost and the 3.5L EcoBoost or the new 3.0L EcoBoost that will be in the new MKZ.

I don't think stuff like that sells. Lincoln has been at the bottom of the pack in terms of sales against other luxury car brand for some time now, they need to build and design what will sell rather then getting super radical with their designs. And if we've learned anything from GM and Chrysler, it's that concept cars almost are always a disaster when you bring them to market.

Chrysler did pretty well with the 300C which looks American as you can get and didn't change much from the concept. I do see the predicament the US auto manufacturers are currently in and I understand why they would want to play it safe but where is the Lincoln-ness? What makes it a Lincoln if it doesn't tap some heritage, it may well be a great car but I feel it needs something extra because luxury buyers by with the heart... so what is going to make them pick this?

True enough, allow me to rephrase. The US automakers need to nuke their preconceived notions.

Well Ford just partnered with Google and GM just partnered with Lyft and both pairs are pouring immense resources into making autonomous cars a reality. That's a pretty big jump considering 15 years ago GM was making this:

That being said, part of me hopes that GM & Lyft's collaboration will produce a legion of driverless 1984 Chevy Citations roaming the streets of America blasting White Snake's 'slide it in'

Their biggest competitor is in-house:

In the flesh, I'd hope that it'll have a few more distinctive elements to separate it from the already gorgeous 2017 MKZ.

Those are some high door handles.
Oh shoot, I didn't notice them until you pointed it out. I feel silly now.

Anyhow, I actually think that looks a bit nice and clean. Though yeah, I wouldn't have the door handles like that if I was designing this thing.
