I would like to offer some congrats to Boston's Dustin Pedroia who had to leave the game in the seventh against the Yankees to tend to the birth of his second child. May his days be long and plentiful.

I admire him for putting his family first.

Two random AL notes...

* 14 innings and five hours, Baltimore took down the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Baltimore. That Machado dude is just money in the bank for BAL.

* The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim won 6-0 today in Anaheim. From the highlights I saw, Jared Weaver was at his usual magical form. They prevented getting swept by the Oakland Athletics.

Many more games coming up, including my Astros trying to avoid getting stomped on by the surging Philadelphia Phillies.

We're off today, then SF coming to town starting tomorrow. Hopefully we can play them just as good as we played them in San Francisco.

The Phillies were ahead 4-0 until we mounted a rally to be down 4-3. Then, we just fell flat and lost again. NOT! We won 6-4 against the Phillies! I was surprised when I read from the Astros' Facebook fan page that a late rally let the Astros surge ahead 6-4. How come my hometown team couldn't win more often this season? I want the Astros to win even though they constantly fail.

I read that the Astros may take on some new looks for Minute Maid Park, their team logo, their team colors, and stuff like this starting this November. I just hope we remain the Astros. And more importantly- the talent needs upgrading besides just the team colors and such.

Congratulations to all other winners from today and tonight.

I just realized that we're only 2.5 games behind the Dodgers now that they lost last night. Certainly an opportunity to snag 2nd place if we can finish the season strong. IF being the key word there...

MLB Network's "Intentional Talk" had a nice little interview with Justin Upton of the Arizona Diamondbacks. I guess for ARI, they need to... almost basically sweep San Francisco and hope the Dodgers screw up for the Snakes to make their own noise in the NL West (and maybe the Wild Card). It will be Matt Cain (SF) vs. Skaggs (ARI) on the mound tonight.

Enjoy the weekend series!

At this point I'm 99.99% sure that SF has already taken the NL West. But closing that 2.5 game gap to LA is definitely doable. All while keeping our eyes on SD since they are the same distance behind us...

Nothing I hate more during September baseball than managers that change pitchers for every hitter that walks up to the plate...

Did anyone see Beckett get thrown out at first by Beltran last night? I hate nothing more than players that give up the last three or four steps before first base. Miguel Cabrera does that ALL THE TIME and I just want to punch my tv lol. That was a great heads up play by Beltran but if Beckett had ran hard all the way he might have been safe.

1. That was Thursday night, not last night.

2. He's a pitcher who just got here from an AL team. While I don't like it, I'll forgive Beckett 100x sooner than Miggy. 1B is a professional hitter, you gotta hustle.

3. He might have been safe. That hit was lined right to Beltran and it was set up perfectly for that opportunity to get him before he got to the bag. You don't need the guy who is basically your #2 starting pitcher to pull a hammy on an iffy bang-bang at first when two of your other starters (Lilly, Billingsley) are done for the season.

Could have been worse. No joe morgan or john miller. Fun game to watch

Jon Miller is an excellent broadcaster, I love listening to him do the radio with Flem. The great thing about Miller is that he is a bit of a statistician and doesn't sound like a senile blow hard that you find too often in sports media. I agree with Joe Morgan, but there is a reason why Miller is in the HoF.

That broadcast was the most painful thing I've ever had to listen to.

Bumgarner is probably one of the strongest pitchers in baseball... look at that.

Yes its Coors, but the wind was coming in HARD all night from left field, you can even see the flags blowing in from left in the video. That ball just cut through... 2nd HR for Maddy this year.

Word? I didn't see the game I just saw the play on ESPN highlights and assumed it was last night. I see it in every game I watch. Players slowing up before they reach first. It's annoying lol.

@ ozzie's tweets LOL. You think he'll be fined for his Olney comment?

Both LA teams suffer blows. Kershaw is likely done for the year and the Angels bullpen is wretched.

Nothing like trying to make a run down the stretch without your best two starters and your best reliever. :ouch:

At the least, my boys are assured a series split. We won 5-0 tonight over the Phillies. Winning the mound matchup was Dallas Keuchel (HOU), now 2-7. Kendrick (PHI) was the loser. J. Maxwell cashed in his 16th jack of the season for Houston.

Elsewhere...

* It was 5-4 in Atlanta as the Braves took down Washington.

* Though last place in the NL East, the Miami Marlins were atop of the fierce Cincinnati Reds with a 6-4 win. Buehrle won for Miami along with a Cishek save. Cueto (CIN) lost for Cincy.

* It was a football score of 7-6 as Pittsburgh tackled the Chicago Cubs in Chicago. It was a win for former Astro, Wandy Rodriguez along with a Hanrahan save. Losing for the Cubbies was Berken. McCutchen and (another former Astro) Clint Barmes went deep in the winning effort.

* Boston won 3-2 in Toronto. Red Sox saw Breslow be the winning pitcher along with a Bailey Save. Delabar lost for Toronto.

* The kitties of MoTown ended up beating Cleveland 5-3. The Tigers won with A. Sanchez and a save by former Astro José Valverde. Masterson took the loss. Miguel Cabrera banged out a homer in the DET effort.

* Them danged Yankees. 5-3 victory for NYY over Tampa Bay in the Bronx. The Bronx Bombers saw Nova win the game along with a save from R. Soriano. Losing for TB was Shields. Evan Longoria went deep for TB, and also scoring jacks were Curtis Granderson (he's too damn good) and E. Nuñez.

* Not a good day if you're an Angels fan. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lost to the middle-of-the-road (AL Central) Kansas City Royals in Kansas City, Missouri. Frieri lost for LAA while Herrera lost for KC. It was 3-2. Sorry I forgot to post the score.

* Tied for last place in the AL Central, Minnesota lost to the visiting Chicago White Sox in Minneapolis. Francisco Liriano was the winner for CHW with a Thornton Save. Losing for MIN was Deduno.

Congratulations to all other winners from today's and tonight's games.

Fixed to prevent confusion.

That is good news for Rangers fans as they too also lost to Seattle 8-6. The only teams that won in the AL West today was Oakland(who made up a half game) and Seattle(who are so far out of it it is not even funny.)

This means that if the Playoffs start today:

AL

Oakland and Baltimore will play for the Wild Card. The winner will face Texas.
The Yankees will play Chicago White Sox in the other divisional playoff.

NL

Atlanta and St. Louis will play for the Wild Card. The winner will face Washington.
San Fransisco and Cincinnati will play in the other divisional.

I made the changes to my initial post. I found out the Astros are now 47-99. So if we somehow f:censored: this one up, we'll have our 100th loss of the season. It's been a 7-7 month of September for the Astros. They decide now is the time to win games. You talk about being so far out that it's funny? We've been like that even going on that downward spiral towards and after the All-Star Break.

Hope your team(s) make some noise today. Go for the win.

We won again! The Astros finally notch up back-to-back wins as we won 7-6 today over the Phillies. So loss #100 doesn't come today. Astros took three out of four for this series. Our only slip-up was the 12-6 thrashing we took on Friday night.

Congratulations to all other winners from today's action.
