Brandon McCarthy had surgery today to fix an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture. Very scary :nervous:.

Yikes. They said he didn't lose consciousness on the field, but if you watch the video and the way he went down it didn't look good. :ill:

He's definitely done for the year (even though that doesn't matter period). Health>>>>>>>Baseball.

Wonder if this will lead to a discussion about pitchers wearing helmets?

Maybe, although I would think that it would be weird for them to wear one. Might mess with their pitching? There has been quite a few come-backers to the mound this year. In fact I remember a day about a month ago where there were 3 nasty ones in the same day. :nervous:

Baltimore leading 6-1 in the 8th. Bring in Randy Wolf for his 3rd inning and then put in Pedro Strop. Suddenly its a tie game. Hammel pitched well before the 'pen blew it.

BIG series in Baltimore for AL East supremacy. It's a four-game swing as the Yankees play against the Orioles. Yankees haters are calling the Yanks as the "Tankees", since they've gone from a 10-game AL lead down to a tied for the AL East. Both have identical 77-60 records. Be interesting to see who takes the AL East lead after this weekend's series.

Enjoy the weekend series, baseball fans!

[UPDATE] There is also the Dodgers at Giants series. Serious NL West implications with two beast NL West programs. That should be a good one.

From what I read, we (the Houston Astros) pulled off some 9th inning magic to win 5-3 at Cincinnati. Not sure if the Astros were fortunate enough to hang on or if the Reds got bored and let my team win, but the Astros were on the winning end on Friday night.

It would have been better if the Cubs lost. Thing is- they didn't. Ask the Pirates what it feels like to get whacked 12-2 after a good old Chicago Cubs' mafia hit. This game was in Pittsburgh.

Congratulations to all other winners from Friday- including the Rays, Yankees, and Marlins among others.

My god, Cardinals are down by a run in the bottom of 13th right now. I gotta work tomorrow man!

Listen to this. Like Office Space(movie), late Friday afternoon, my boss asks me if I can work Saturday(I already worked five!). It sucks so bad, and I know the Cardinals' gonna lose, too.

Speaking of Brandon McCarthy, he will undergo brain surgery this weekend.

Sadly, this is life threatening...his surgeon said that anything that goes wrong in the surgery could kill him.

Prayers go out to the McCarthy family.

It's official- Stephen Strasburg has been shut down for the rest of the season. The rest of the Nationals' pitching rotation will need to step up in his place.

As for Brandon McCarthy, that is just terrible news. I certainly want the happiest outcome for this guy after what he endured.

Again? He already had surgery...

That's the thing with brain injuries. You can feel fine, but your brain could be bleeding and be doing pretty badly.

McCarthy has to make it through this weekend. The second and third days are the most dangerous.

Trout's first AB against Verlander... homerun!!! 4-0 already!

How awesome is this picture?

Citi Field. They renamed a restaurant here after Chipper so I'm just hoping he gets free food. Always a nemesis to us Met fans (to rub it in, he calls his son Shea, in honor of the stadium he crushed the ball at), but always a class act.

I'm glad that his final season's going so well for him, but I hope he also finishes strong, too. Maybe I'm getting greedy, but most of the leading teams has been so up & down this season, if the Braves could get a little momentum going into October, I like our chances.

Jeff Loria and David Samson need to resign.

Referring to the team's explored move to Las Vegas (before the Miami stadium deal was passed), Samson said he was told that the casinos would buy all the tickets and that nobody would come to the games. Not that he or Loria cared, of course.
"We don't care if nobody comes," Mr. Samson recalled with a smile. "We'll play in front of nobody, and we'll have all the money."
