Major League Baseball: 2012 Season

Zito got his 13th win this year, hasn't done that since 2006. He and Timmy have really picked up over the past month or so. Giants are 9-0 in Zito's last nine starts, incredible.

And Pablo is finally getting back into the hang of things, hamstring stunted his recovery from hamate surgery big time. They always say power is the last thing to come back from a hamate injury, and we've seen it twice now this year and last year. But he came back and hit a big HR yesterday and hit 2 today (one from each side of the plate) and Posey went deep to follow his 2nd bomb. We are on FIRE.

Its time to play: Ridicule our teams:

For tfed:
Ichiro’s OPS as a Yankee is .805, which is higher than it was in six of his 11 full seasons as a Mariner. What’s that? Park effects make this factoid misleading? Man, it’s too bad I can’t go back and edit these things.

For Prosthetic:
When Pablo Sandoval is slumping, people say he’s out of shape. When he hits three home runs in two games, they call him big-boned.

For Patrick/Villain:
A roughly four in five chance that no Los Angeles team will play in the postseason, or the NFL.

For Villain:
Missing the playoffs with a $200 million payroll would be embarrassing, but that's not what's going to happen to the Dodgers. Because the $200 million payroll is (already!) next year's.

For R1600Turbo:
Justin Upton has hit .313/.348/.594 in September, which could make the Diamondbacks either more or less inclined to trade him, depending on the day.

For BobK:
The Phillies a) scored 16 runs and b) were held scoreless by five different Mets pitchers, which is September baseball in a nutshell.

For me:
Jeremy Hefner is the 67th pitcher to start a game, allow six earned runs or more, and not get an out. Good news is nobody will remember this about him. Bad news is nobody will remember him.

For JohnBM01:
From last night’s AP game story: “St. Louis has won four in a row, capitalizing on a break in the schedule.” “A break in the schedule” is what we’re calling the Astros now.

I think a lot of people are taking this season out of context. They haven't had 200MM payroll all year. This team came into the season with expectations of NOTHING.

Luckily, they are set up for success for quite some time.

Villain, I hope you are aware that where I got these blurbs from (baseballprospectus.com) is supposed to be comedic .

No comment from me. I just want this season to end so we can go from NL doormat to AL doormat, and hopefully not be an MLB doormat for the third successive year.

Enjoy the weekend series, and best of luck to all of your team(s).

The Cincinnati Reds, by virtue of defeating the Chicago Cubs today 5-3, have become the first MLB team in 2012 to clinch a postseason berth.
Not quite. St. Louis lost today which leaves us with one game to clinch...and we're playing that game right now. It might be a long one...

Win #49, suckas! We're now 49-102 after a 7-1 victory rocking the Colt .45 unis tonight and having the roof open. Astros took down the Pirates at home tonight.

Also, congratulations to the Diamondbacks on pounding the Rockies 15-5. Plenty of venom in the bats for the Snakes. Good for R1600Turbo... not so much for GTP's favorite Rockies' fan.

Yeah, don't worry I wasn't offended or anything. I just wanted to make the point that it's not some colossal failure for the Dodgers to miss the playoffs. To be sure, it is a disappointment, but it's not as bad as say, the 2011 Philadelphlia Eagles coming into the season talking "Dream Team" and then getting embarrassed by the rest of the NFL all year.

If there is an NHL season, the LA Kings will make the playoffs, and the Anaheim Ducks have a good shot at it. I assume the 1 in 5 was referring to the Lakers.

Galaxy have also won the MLS Cup 2 years in a row. As mentioned, the Kings are reigning champs and expected to continue their success (assuming the 12/13 season happens). The Lakers and the Clippers are both playoff caliber NBA teams as well.

I found out we have finally hit the golden mark in wins. Win #50 for the Houston Astros is a 4-1 victory after it being a 1-1 tie for most of the time. I'm baffled as to why we decide NOW is the time to play winning baseball.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday's games.

After Halliday got lit up by the Braves yesterday (6 runs in 1 2/3 innings) I suspect the Phils' season is now over.

Actually it probably has been for a while now, and I've just been in denial.

Me with Trout!!!

It was 8-1 Pirates today. We still won the series, but no sweep for the Astros. A sweep would have been vastly encouraging for a team that has had such a dismal season. I'm sure the Astros wouldn't be laughing when saying "you can't win them all" considering how this 2012 season has gone. Again- another fail for the Astros.

All the Braves needed to do to make the postseason was take down Omnis' Miami Marlins tonight in Atlanta. They did just that thanks to a walk-off jack by F. Freeman. It was 4-3 in favor of Atlanta. The winning pitcher was Craig Kimbrel (ATL), and the loser was Mike Dunn (MIA).

Speaking of the Marlins, I've been hearing a lot about how Ozzie Guillen could be ousted as coach of the Marlins after just one season. I don't know who else Miami would be eyeing to replace Ozzie.

So here's the Who's In?" list for this season's playoffs at the point of this post:

WHO'S IN?
AMERICAN LEAGUE: -none-
NATIONAL LEAGUE: Cincinnati (NL Central champs), San Francisco (NL West champs), Atlanta (clinched spot)

REMEMBER- all of the above material is posted as of the time of this thread reply. Source: Yahoo! Sports.
