Yeah, maybe without the Quake.

Edit: Hmmm, Washington & St Louis 1-1 tie in the 8th. Any guesses on the winner?

Crushing loss for the Reds. Especially crushing since I as at the game.:( First time being to a playoff game, and it was electric. It was loud there. The Posey grand salami hurt quite a bit, but having 2 guys on the 6th, 7th, 8th, AND 9th and putting up a measly 2 runs (one being the solo shot, with no one on naturally, by Ludwick) absolutely killed. Just couldn't get that one win. Oh well, next year I guess/hope. I'm pulling for the Nats now because I still can't stand the Cards. They've won enough the past several years. :grumpy:

Cheers from Indy Drago... Glad you were able to experience the game. Shame about Rolen's poor series. Still like the guy quite a lot...

You'll be tough next year Sir!

Pedro Strop is Pitching! That man lived in my house one summer when he played for Tri-City! In essence, he is my brother.

I kinda want the Yankees to win it. More specifically, I want Ichiro to win it. Would be a shame for one of the best in history to never get a ring.

Hey Smitty, I've got a question. How in the world do the Cardinals do this year after year? I mean, they barely sneak into the playoffs, then catch fire and win the whole dang thing over and over. They lost their best hitter, manager, and pitching coach over the offseason, and yet here they are. And it's not like St. Louis is a huge market. They aren't paying crazy money to these guys like the Yankees do every year. I'm just amazed. Oh, and as much as I dislike the Cardinals, you seem like a good guy. And you're from Indiana, which is a plus. So no hard feelings, even as I root for the Nats. 👍

Welp, A's are done.

Are you using reverse Psychology like last night?

In other news, my bro just pitched 2 scoreless innings!

Yes O's! 2-1!!!

Not gonna work tonight I'm afraid. 6 runs is a lot to overcome.

No A-Rod tonight for the Yanks. Eric Chavez will start in his place. It's winner-take-all as Baltimore and the New York Yankees will try to extend their respective seasons in this pivotal Game 5.

None at all Sir!

I'm from St. Louis, in Indy now. Still want me to answer? :)
If I had to narrow down a few of the many factors contributing to the Cards success in my lifetime, I would go with these, in no particular order

They don't always win the Wildcard, sneak in, and get hot, although they know how to do that well. It wasnt long ago that they averaged 100 wins over three seasons (I think)... If not 100, then something stellar such as 98/99 or something.

-Drafting better than most teams - the core of this current team were drafted
-Trading for players when they are younger and developing them well (Wainright)
-Identifying players to get cheaply, usually pitchers, who will be successful and identifying those players FAR better than nearly every other team. Carpenter, Marquis, Woody Williams, Suppan, Tewskbury, and more. Getting #2, 3, or 4 starters from time to time on the cheap is critical.
-"Some" Money - Anheuser Busch was loaded, now they are more frugal, but fan support is very strong. Good revenue from tickets, television, apparel, etc. This cash is not used to pay one or two stars A-Rod type money, but rather keep as many of the above mentioned players around as possible.
- RARELY overpay for players - see Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen was dealt also
- Dave Duncan might be the best pitching coach of all time
- Players LOVE playing there. In a poll of MLB players published in Sports Illustrated a few years ago, St. Louis was the clear choice for "baset baseball city in America.". Not my opinion mind you, but rather the players across all of MLB
- There really is a baseball "culture" there. Fans applaud a good sacrifice, defense, good Baserunning, and players who give their all. It helps.
- No other NL team has more WS wins that the Cards, who are second only to the Yanks.

Go Nats... The furry one comes through!! If Gonzalez can throw strikes tonight they have a decent chance.

Gio is a beast. Wainright for the Cards. Might be an epic game. The Cards are going for their fourth straight do or die game victory. Been there before, we'll see...

Thank the lord. although judging by his at bats last night,i think he is a few away from getting out of his funk. This is an important game though and you cant give those AB's away just so he can get his swing right. But chavez is due. Arod needs some of that '04 magic
