Rangers ended up blanking the A's 4-0 to take the series. Derek Holland allowed 4 hits in 8 shutout innings while racking up 10 K's. Nelson Cruz and Mitch Moreland went yard. And the Texas infielders made some fantastic plays.

The Rangers are now 2.5 games back. And with the win today, Ron Washington became the winningest manager in Rangers history, surpassing Bobby Valentine. Now I'm just waiting for the Cowboys game to start.

From here, the Rangers head down to Anaheim to face the Angels. Also, I'll be hopping on the Reds bandwagon for Tuesday and Wednesday, as the A's travel to Cincinnati for a pair.

While today should be a happy day for Ranger Nation, this is probably the last time Nelson Cruz will take the field for awhile...

I didn't realize that he was suspended.

Not yet. He will be tomorrow along with 11 other players. Known are Peralta, Evreth Cabrera, Jesus Montero and a few minor leaguers. There are 4 players that have not been announced anywhere but will also be suspended.

Cruz was listed in the Biogenesis records. I don't know if he actually took PEDs, but his name was in their records.

Jose Fernandez struck out 14 against the Indians. That kid is just good.

He definitely handed our ass to us in game 1. :ouch: Loss 10-0
Gotta give credit where credit is due, nice job Fernandez. 👍

Games 2&3 went our way against the Marlins ... whew ! Game 2 the Tribe bounces back and wins 4-3. Game 3 saw the Tribe win a close one 2-0.

Well here we go, lets get ready to rumble in Detroit. The Tribe heads into the Motor City to take on Joeys Tigers for a 4 game set. 1st place bragging rights are on the line.
Detroit is 64-45 , Tribe is 62-49 ... 3 games back. We could use a few wins here, c'mon Wahoos !!!

Oh, it's going to be tough trying to tame the Detroit Tigers. Cleveland better be on its A-game if they expect to even contend in Detroit. Detroit may doggone well be on their way to returning to the World Series unless some other AL contenders have something to say about a World Series run.

Don't get your hopes up.

lol, you guys might win Tuesday. According to Scorecenter Dan Straily is taking the mound for Oakland. He seems to have been inconsistent this year.

But on Wednesday, the Reds will be facing Bartolo Colon, unless he is among the 12 that will be suspended tomorrow. If they face Colon, well...not much hope of shredding him.

The clock is ticking on Alex Rodriguez. He's going to be suspended, but for how long? The main report has been that A-Rod would be suspended for the rest of this season and perhaps the entire 2014 season. However, he COULD play tonight as the Yankees will play at the Chicago White Sox. About 12 other players will still be suspended. This is still a loaded story with many avenues to account for.

How about another assessment discussion? Here's mine.

The Astros begun to show some improvement not too long ago, but have since gone back to losing. There is really nothing the Astros can do but just go through the motions and endure the sort of pain and punishment. They'll have to endure being the butt of most peoples' jokes. Fewest wins the Astros have ever accumulated in a 162-game season was about 55 wins last season. I'm not sure if the Astros will even reach 50 wins at this point and with the string of futility this team has endured. It's like the Astros went from improbable World Series team to a spiraling downfall where subsequent seasons. The Astros last made the playoffs in 2005 (which was that World Series run), and it's very unlikely this team will return to even being relevant the way they've fallen in games. Only fair weather fans wanting leaps-and-bounds instant results are the only ones really dedicated to the Astros returning to relevance. For now, this is a work in progress that will take at least a year or two for the Astros to reverse their misfortunes.

Because they are too good for this, the Boston Red Sox will make their only visit to Minute Maid Park with this new series. The Houston Astros will have a three-game tilt at home against Boston followed by a four-game set with the Texas Rangers this coming weekend. We came off of getting swept at the Minnesota Twins over the weekend.

Enjoy your baseball and good luck to your team(s).

A-Rod's suspension is reported to be the rest of 2013 and all of 2014, but he is expecting to play in Chicago tonight...and will appeal any suspension.

Shame about Cruz though...his suspension will hurt the club in terms of offensive output. But if David Murphy and Leonys Martin (the two outfielders expected to cover the corners) can step up a bit more, Texas will be fine. Mitch Moreland and Jeff Baker can also play the outfield if needed, which gives the club a bit of depth in the corner outfield spots. Hopefully they call up Engel Beltre again to add to that depth.

And the bigger shame is that they have demolished any hope of allowing Profar to do anything. Rangers have made really moronic decisions recently.

This suspension freed up the DH spot. Cruz hogged the DH spot this past week due to a sore quad muscle. And with no sign of Lance Berkman coming back soon, I bet Adrian Beltre and Ian Kinsler get more time at DH, which will allow Profar to play more in the infield.

I don't see Kinsler at DH. I may see Profar, and Andrus trading off DH duties, but other than that, Profar may be what the Rangers wanted out of Lance Berkman.

ARod to appeal. By the time he gets suspended (if he does), everyone else will be back from their suspensions. Its a joke now because the Union is suddenly jumping behind something that's killing the sport.

Funny how the Dodgers are now running away with the NL West after being in the basement for the first few months, and the remaining West teams suck.

The Tribes game #1 against the Tigers ..... down the tubes in the top of the 9th.

Cleveland had them 2-0 heading into the top of the 9th. Closing pitcher Chris Perez comes in and gives it all up. Victor Martinez's RBI single made it 2-1, Perez walked Andy Dirks before Alex Avila drove a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left-center.

End of story ... 4-2 Tigers win. Damn, damn, damn, we needed this win.

3 more games to go in this set, here's hoping for the best.

Rangers currently trailing the Angels 1-0 going into the 4th. David Murphy got the start in right tonight, while Elvis Andrus was given the DH role and Jurickson Profar started at short. The rough plan for the outfield is David Murphy in one of the corners, Leonys Martin in center, and either Joey Butler or Engel Beltre in the other corner. Engel started in left tonight. Craig Gentry will get some playing time in center, mostly against left-handed pitching, and Jeff Baker could see some time in the outfield as well.

Astros win! 2-0 victory for us hosting Boston. We pulled this off thanks to seven shutout innings from Oberholtzer. A losing streak is snapped as win #37 was cashed in. I almost sort of felt like the game would be a bit against Houston since pitcher S. Escalona was suspended among the 12 or so 50-game suspended players. Anyhow, winning. A welcome change. It's also the first shutout WIN for us since that double-digit whacking we put on Baltimore at Baltimore a few days ago.

Elsewhere...

Sorry, Nicksflix. I thought about you watching MLB Network live when Detroit hit that three-run jack to go up 4-2 in the Top of the 9th. That was a backbreaker. That's okay. You guys got three more chances in this series to shut up and shut down the Tigers if you can. Probably good this series is in Cleveland and not in Detroit.

I was doing some work related stuff on the computer while at the same time listening to some live streaming of the game. I was getting sort of excited about game 1, then the bottom fell out. I can still hear the announcers call on this one ...... :ouch: and :grumpy: and a few 🤬🤬🤬 were exhausted out.

Oh well, you can't win them all.

BTW - congrats Joey on winning game 1 of 4.

Rangers defeat the Angels 5-2. Martin Perez pitched another great game tonight, going 6.1 and only allowing 4 hits and 2 runs, while racking up 7 K. I think he has changed alot from last year and earlier this season. Last year he was very inconsistent in the majors, but was tearing up Triple A. He has only had 2 bad outings this year...both came on the road, and were against the Diamondbacks and Indians. He's had 2 great starts against the Angels, and another great start against the Cardinals. After all, he is the Rangers' top pitching prospect.

Elsewhere, Jurickson Profar went 2-4 with an RBI and scored a run on Elvis Andrus' triple. Joe Nathan picked up save number 33, and the Rangers gained a half game on Oakland. This will be an exciting battle for the AL West...

And even better news...the Yankees were crushed by the White Sox 8-1. A-Fraud was booed loudly.
