We've done it now. After our little skid, we have now dropped a spot. The Tribe has given up 2nd place to the KC Royals. Now we are 63-56 and 1/2 game out of 2nd and 7 games out of first. :indiff:

Could be the traditional skid we are used to seeing here. :guilty:

Gibby should have listened to the radio broadcasters and walked Davis. Unfortunately he didn't and Davis promptly hit one out. :rolleyes:

And we seem to be able to make average pitchers look like Cy Young candidates.

After a 45 minute rain delay, the Rangers lost to Milwaukee 5-1. The only positive thing to come out of it at this point is that Alexi Ogando pitched into the 7th inning.

But, he gave up three longballs, and only got one run for support. In other news, Matt Harrison was shut down for the season due to doctors saying he hasn't recovered enough to pitch like he used to.

On a more positive note, the Astros are beating up on Oakland in the top of the 6th, 5-1. Hopefully their bullpen can hold that lead...

Game tying home run in the bottom of the 9th for Goldschmidt. :D

AND a game winning HR in the 11th, two walk offs in two nights. :D

The Astros just beat the A's to help my Rangers. Awesome.

Even better? Bartolo Colon started for Oakland, yeilding 5 runs over 4 innings. To see a team like the Astros light up a pitcher like Colon is just awesome. Like I said, anything can happen in baseball.

We won! The Houston Astros beat Oakland 5-4 in Oakland. The key for us winning was hanging three runs on the Oakland Athletics in the 8th inning to take the lead that we wouldn't surrender. It is our 38th win of the season. We are a sorry ass 38-80 now.

My Prediction: end up losing the HOU at OAK series, pending the Astros find ways to win than fail.

Congratulations to all other winners.

I saw a highlight package of the HOU at OAK game last night. Apparently, Oakland hit a long ball to deep left that was thought to be a walk-off Home Run for Oakland. The homer was denied by Instant Replay as it was to the left of the left foul pole. Houston then struck out Oakland to win. So it was a sad break for Oakland against my Astros. But on the other hand, now you know how it feels to be us Astros, and it's refreshing to know that we aren't the ones on the receiving end of heartbreak or disappointment for a change. Divine intervention from the baseball gods usually make us lose constantly, so I was pleased we finally won one; and especially against the Athletics, who've roughed us up all season long.

You know, I'm really sorry for the Philadelphia Phillies. They just went straight to Hell with their brutal losing ways. It's a feeling I can relate to as an Astros fan, like I keep mentioning one time a few years ago- going from being only one game below .500 to going on a consistently brutal losing streak and losing loads of games to eventually get flattened like a pancake. We're trying to turn things around here in Houston, but this is sad for the Phillies and what they've been through as of late.

Other than that... enjoy your Wednesday baseball.

The Reds finished a sweep of the Cubbies after taking 2 of 3 from the Padres. If only we could face losing teams every game... Everyone knows we still can't beat quality competition.

DBacks and Orioles tied 4-4 in the 13th now. Josh Collmenter on and doing a great job. Now if the offense can get a walk-off for the 3rd night in a row...

Edit: Walk-off in the 14th, 3rd game in a row. :)

Rangers currently losing 4-2 in the top of the 7th. Matt Garza didn't go deep into the game, lasting 5.2 and giving up 2 longballs for 4 runs.

It's currently scoreless in Oakland through 3. Hopefully the Astros can do some magic like they did last night.

Rangers ended up coming back to win it 5-4. Their 3-run rally came in the 7th when Milwaukee went to their bullpen, bringing in former Ranger Michael Gonzales. He walked Gentry and Profar to start off the inning. John Axford was then brought into the game, and he walked Jeff Baker to load the bases. Leonys Martin struck out on 3 pitches, then Elvis Andrus hit a signle to left to cut the lead to 4-3. Bases were still loaded for Ian Kinsler, now facing Burke Badenhop. He sent a 2-0 pitch to leftfield to bring in the tying and eventual-winning runs. Joe Nathan secured his 36th save. Joe Nathan now has 8 seasons with 35 or more saves...joining Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera as the only other two closers to accomplish that feat.

Meanwhile, Astros and A's are knotted at 1 heading into extras...

EDIT: ASTROS WIN!! 2 game lead for Texas in the AL West!

Nine innings settled nothing. Tied 1-1, my Astros ended up winning 2-1 in 11 innings. So my prediction of losing this series doesn't come true as we are assured at least a series win. I can't remember the last time Houston won back-to-back games. I would REALLY be stunned if the Astros somehow sweep Oakland later today (it is Thursday in Central Daylight Time as of this post) like how we somehow swept California's other AL team- the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Astros are just fighting for any wins they can get. Everything meaningful to play for is pretty much over, so we're playing for pride from here on out. Still...

*happy dance*

What makes it particularly frustrating is it appeared they were turning things around. They went into July five games under .500 but managed to go 9 for 13 before the break to even their record at 48-48 and things were starting to look pretty good. Since then they've gone 5 for 24, a pathetic .208 won-loss percentage, and are currently 14 games under .500. During the same span the Astros, by way of comparison, have played .240 ball.

My Rangers are off today, preparing to host the Seattle Mariners for 3 games. As it stands now, the A's will gain a half-game on Texas, as the Astros are trailing 5-0 in the 4th inning.

I'm surprised the way Houston has played against Oakland this series. I wasn't expecting much help but I remained optimistic...and they won the series.

I guess the Astros only cared about winning the series and decide to, uh... not show up. So we failed today. Oakland won 5-0 over my Astros at that ugly football stadium that also makes an ugly baseball ballpark. Well, you know what they say- 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

You know what else isn't bad? Major League Baseball has approved of Instant Replay starting next season. Here is a link with a little more information on the process:

What are your thoughts on instant replay in Major League Baseball?

Why is there a limit to the amount of challenges and why you can only challenge at certain amount of times? 3 challenges in a game, but only one in the first 6 innings?

If a manager is abusing the system, just toss him.

:dunce:

I don't know why anyone would prefer a situation where the right call isn't made 100% of the time. Umpire mistakes are not "good" for the game.

My guess would be that plays in the latter part mean more. Keep in mind also that this challenge system is coming from the NFL, and NFL teams only get 2 per game.

Major League Baseball hasn't "approved" anything at all yet, so far it's still just a proposal by Bud Light which still has to be approved by 75% of the team owners and majorities of both the Players and Umpires unions.

Personally I think the idea'll be a shoe-in as soon as they realize this is an opportunity for up to six more commercials per game.

Enjoy this weekend of baseball. Here are some of many series coming this weekend:

* Astros at Angels
* Royals at Tigers
* Blue Jays at Rays
* Giants at Marlins
* Nationals at Braves
* Mets at Padres
* Indians at Athletics
* Diamondbacks at Pirates
* Dodgers at Phillies

And last, but not least...

* Yankees at Red Sox

There are other series, but these are some of the ones I'm just mentioning here. Enjoy you weekend baseball, and good luck to all of your team(s).

Yankees/Red Sox is always good no matter what...especially when it's at Fenway. I hate the Yanks. :D

Theres a good matchup on the mound tonight in Philly, with Cliff Lee and Zack Greinke.

The Indians travel to Oakland, so I'm hopping on the Indians bandwagon. :P

My guess would be that plays in the latter part mean more. Keep in mind also that this challenge system is coming from the NFL, and NFL teams only get 2 per game.

I meant the "why" in a rhetorical sense. This replay system sounds like an improvement if only because the one before was basically nothing.

The NFL is the absolute wrong place to look for a replay template. Tennis, on the other hand, is the absolute right place to look. You can't tell me that MLB doesn't have the funds to develop and install 30 of those systems.

I somewhat agree, but the NFL is a good place to start. They don't need EVERYTHING the NFL has, but the challenge system is a great starting point for expanded replay in baseball.

However, I don't know how the tennis replay system works...
