And with that win, they have surpassed my expected win total for the season. Good job astros

No reason to count, consider it clinched.
I never count my chickens before they hatch. Magic number is 6 now.
If Arizona comes back on Los Angeles, then the Dodgers would be the most show-off team this season. Start off terrible, then beat league to a pulp, then finish terrible.
That would bea nightmare.
Trumbo and Hamilton are on fire right now. Where was this in April???
I think that there's something to be said for ending a season on a high note. Dodgers did that last year (almost cracking the WC2). It makes for less stressful or pestering winter interviews and there's less pressure on the coaching staff. People can just go to work and get ready to build on it for next season.

I'm telling you man, the Astros are probably just two seasons away from really making some noise.

I certainly hope so, Villain. Being at least a Wild Card contender in future seasons is better for my Astros than being a doormat for going on three seasons.

Speaking of the Dodgers, I don't think anyone expected LAD to do so well especially after the All-Star Break. You don't win all those games and go on this beast run all to fall short in money times. It's going to be safe to say that the Dodgers had better make some noise in the Postseason. Otherwise, this great regular season run will mean absolutely nothing. I almost feel the same way about the 2013 Dodgers as I did the 2012-2013 Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. Expectations are going to be crazy high for LAD to go far into the postseason after this regular season run. Heck, you may have to say "World Series title or bust" if you think the Dodgers HAVE to finish the season by winning the championship.

Of course, this is all granted LAD makes the postseason. There's still plenty of regular season left, and a lot can change. Remember when Boston was well ahead in their standings until they lost all those games? Nothing's guaranteed or handed out. Got to play 162 games and do good in almost all of them to help your postseason cause.

Enjoy your Wednesday baseball, everyone.

I'm not a subscriber to "World Series or bust," as a fan. Obviously, I want it more than anything else in sports, but I turn my "regular season logic" out the window in the playoffs.

Anything can happen, so as long as the Dodgers show up and don't blow it by way of foolishness, I'll be happy. If they lose because they simply get beaten, then that's just the way it is.

They don't think it be like it is, but it do

The Rangers continue to tank...Pittsburgh swept them.

We're gonna get shredded by Oakland this weekend. :nervous:

Benches just cleared in Miami. Jose Fernandez hit a home run, and stood for a bit to watch it. While rounding third, he spit in front of Chris Johnson. After he touched home plate, Evan Gattis had some words for Fernandez. They got into it, verbally, and then Johnson rushed in steaming. Then the benches cleared. No punches thrown, but there was quite a bit of pushing and shoving. Don't know who, if anyone, got tossed.

Evan Gattis had hit a homer earlier, and he stared at Jose before starting his trot.

Assuming the Twins don't make an epic comeback, the Rangers will be 3.5 games back.

It feels more like 10. :indiff:

Ha! 50 wins before 100 losses! Take that! Houston has now won 3 in a row as we defeated Seattle 6-1 in Seattle to sweep the Mariners. We are now 50-96 on the season after this Wednesday match. The Astros will be coming back home happy and will get Thursday off.

Up next for Houston... we're hosting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the weekend. Then, I think we'll have another NL Central family reunion when Cincinnati comes to H-Town after we're done with LAA.

It's comical how neither the Braves or Dodgers has been able to take advantage of the loss by the other team. Together, they both lose again.

No Astros baseball today. We're enjoying a day off after being Oakland's b:censored:es (again) and sweeping Seattle in our latest road trip. So I decided to post another sort of lighthearted material to get some discussion going. Here goes...

You can't win if you don't score. Baseball is a tough game, especially games that end up finishing 1-0. It means that one team's offense got through a struggle to finally score while that scoring team's defense preserves a shutout. If your team is ahead 1-0, you know that's not enough to keep you happy. You always want to see more runs put on the board for insurance and assurance your team will win. Just about every team and its fans have been on the winning side and losing side of 1-0 ball games. When on the winning side, I always want to see more runs put up by my team because a 1-0 game could easily become 1-1 or greater. The pressure to win a game that eventually finishes 1-0 is even greater when the leading team is the road team. The home team could easily win the game in late stages with some kind of walk-off score. So it's up to your defense to shut the door on the other team. But long story short... you win however you can. And if it comes down to a 1-0 victory, so be it. At least one team scored... and the other didn't.

How do you feel about 1-0 games?

Oh, and speaking of Oakland... damn! 18-3 exorcism at Minnesota by Oakland last night. Ouch! I know Rangers fans don't want to hear of any domination by the A's, but this AL West ride is going to be even more bumpy as the regular season winds down. It's too late for the Angels, Mariners, and Astros to make a surprise run. The AL West is basically Oakland vs. Texas... and then everybody else. Maybe I'll come back to talk about some of the games that wrapped up on Thursday.

Enjoy your Thursday baseball!

It's been like that for the last three seasons.

The Giants line-up tonight against the Dodgers is the exact same 8 guys who started game 1 of the 2012 World Series.

Oh, how things.... change?

Rangers had an off-day, and watched Oakland gain a half-game on them.

My prediction...Texas is going to get shredded this weekend.

Jeebus, the Tribe opened up a can of good old fashioned whoop ass on the ChiSox tonight, 14-3. After the first inning, Tribe was up 4-0, never to look back. Kind of makes 'ya wonder what the rest of this weekend series will be like. ChiSox get some revenge on this ... could be. Tribe rolls ... mmmmm, maybe, but kind of doubtful. We'll see.

Good luck to your team(s) this weekend, especially for those of you who are in the post season chase.

2 weeks left in regulation play. Who will make the charge for October ? Who may fall short of October ?

The Indians remaining schedule .... here's hoping. I still think we are going to need some help along the way if we have any intentions of the post season.

Sept. 13-15 @ Chicago
Sept. 16-18 @ K.C.
Sept. 19-22 @ home -vs- John's Astros
Sept. 24-25 @ home -vs- K.C.
Sept. 26-29 @ Minnesota

Good Luck Tribe

Going to the Astros game on the 17th. they played very well against the Mariners, I'm anxious to see how they play against the division-hopeful Reds. Back in 2011, game 162, the Astros basically gave the game to the Cardinals that gave them the wildcard over the Braves. I wonder if this will be a significant series or just a regular sweep.

Also... the yankees last series is against the Astros. I hope they're in the same position as the Cards were and we absolutely maul them the 1st 2 games then let MO get his last save on the 3rd game

Mo got a rare win tonight. The scorer invoked rule 10.17 (c) in giving the win to the closer. What is 10.17 (c)?

MLB.com
"The official scorer shall not credit as the winning pitcher a relief pitcher who is ineffective in a brief appearance, when at least one succeeding relief pitcher pitches effectively in helping his team maintain its lead. In such a case, the official scorer shall credit as the winning pitcher the succeeding relief pitcher who was most effective, in the judgment of the official scorer."

Basically that because, in Mark Jacobson's view, David Robertson allowed four hits, including a three run blast that tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth, and Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth(with a Yankee run scoring in the top of the ninth), he felt that Rivera should become the pitcher of record.

Rivera is now 6-2 on the year with 43 saves.

Ready for some weekend baseball? Plenty of action coming up.

* My Astros will enjoy a home stand that includes the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this weekend as well as Interleague play against Cincinnati.

* The other Texas baseball team will be having some Oakland Athletics problems up in Arlington. Pitching match tonight: D. Straily (9-7, 4.15 ERA) for Oakland vs. D. Holland (9-8, 3.17 ERA) for Texas.

* It's the Yanks and the [Red] Sox! This time, at Fenway Park.

* The Miami Marlins have the sorriest record in the NL. They'll take a stroll way up north to be hosted by the New York Mets.

* Hale will make his debut tonight when the Atlanta Braves host the San Diego Padres.

* SoCal vs. NorCal. The San Francisco baseball team may be called the Giants, but these Giants have some giant Dodgers problems this weekend. All SF can do at this point is play spoiler to LAD.

* The Chicago White Sox will host Nicksflix's Cleveland Indians. This is going to be a crucial series for Cleveland.

* Kansas City is pretty tough. They head into the Tigers' Den as the Detroit Tigers will host the K.C. Royals.

Have a great weekend, and good luck to all of your teams.

Tensions are high this weekend for this series. Hopefully the Rangers do some sweeping of their own after getting swept by the Pirates.

Coming from section 219 at the Ballpark. It's 3-2 Oakland through 2.

And make it 6-2... :banghead:

Chris Davis just hit number 50. Congrats to him. And the Pirates hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first inning of their game, the first of which was an inside-the-parker by Pedro Alvarez.

It was 9-7, Astros here in Houston as we knocked off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It is win #51 on the season for the Houston Astos Baseball Club and four straight wins for the first time since early-mid June. Astros and Angels have nothing but pride to play for at this point.

Happier news for the Astros is that one of their Minor League affiliates, the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York/Penn League, won the championship recently. This is good for the Astros' farm system in hopes the Astros can rebuild quicker and actually contend for a change. 2013 is a lost cause for the Astros. However, the future just got a bit brighter for this team.

Rangers have made it a ballgame...it was 9-2 Oakland at one point. Texas came back with six unanswered.

Though, the threat was ended on a HORRIBLE call. Alex Rios was going to 3rd on an Adrian Beltre single. Ruled out. Replay showed he was CLEARLY safe. Rios was furious, and was tossed. So furious, the other 3 umps had to come over to third base.

The fans that are left are really into it. Every Oakland out, every strike thrown by Texas pitching, every Texas baserunner...they make some serious noise. This is the loudest I have heard the Texas crowd in a long time.

And Matt Garza just tossed for yelling from the dugout. The fans boos were loud.
