Reds are in. Pirates are in. Congratulations to these two. Surely Dolph Drago is proud to see the Reds make the postseason.

Kinda mixed feelings. Yes, I'm happy we're in, but the NL seemed quite a bit less competitive than the AL, so wins were a little bit easier to come by. And of the teams in the playoffs in the NL, I see the us as the weakest in the bunch. It's possible we may have the top pitching staff in the league and fantastic defense, but the offense loves to play hide and seek. Our pitchers may throw 1 or 2 run games up there, but it won't mean a thing if our offense doesn't at least match it. But hey, we've still made the postseason 3 of the past 4 years after a 15 year hiatus. That is a good feeling. :)

And here's a fun fact: with the Pirates and Reds both winning today, that makes 3 teams in the NL Central with at least 90 wins (and that's without beating on John's Astros in the division for a full season).

Baseball is so weird. The Astros had, what, a 5 game winning streak was it? Then lose 10 in a row. Surely your boys will get a couple more wins before the season is over, John. I least I hope so for your sake.

Rangers lead the Astros 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th. Rays lead the Yanks 5-0 in the 7th, and the Indians lead the White Sox 3-2 in the 8th. Hoping the Rangers can at least win to keep ground, and either the Rays or Indians lose to gain ground. Just one game out...

Rays, Rays, Rays Rays lose ...... not the Tribe. ;)
Eh, I hate the Yanks, but it'd be nice to see them beat the Rays. It doesn't seem likely.

As it stands now, Sox are going to win! :D

Elsewhere, Michael Wacha is no-hitting the Nats through 7.

Final ... The Tribe tops the ChiSox 5-4.
T-Bay is beating the Yankees 5-0, top of the 9th.

We will still be tied with T-Bay for 1st in the Wildcard, with Texas looming at 1.5 back. This season is more than likely going to come down to the final game of the season for some teams involved in the post season chase.:nervous:

Who has the nerves / will to hang in there ? Who's nerves will fail ? It's gonna get real interesting here.

We all have heard the saying ....
"It's not over til the fat lady sings"

Good luck to all of the post season chasers, and congrats to those teams who have nailed down a post season spot.

Which means a Cleveland win eliminates the Yankees.

Which means a Cleveland win eliminates the Yankees.

👍
I hate the Yankees as a whole, which is why I wish they never see the playoffs again, but I had a little piece inside of me wishing they would make it 1 last time this year. Can't say enough good things about Mo.

As it stands now, Texas is 1.5 games out, but they lead the Astros 3-2 in the 8th. A Texas win would keep them a game back.

I'm happy the Yankees are not playing in October this year. Though, I do feel bad for Mo...I'm sure he would have liked to pitch in October one last time.

It is amazing if Machado only sprained his medial patellofemoral ligament. The injury looked pretty bad but my initial thought was dislocated patella when I saw it and this goes along with that. Amazing he didn't do any damage to his ACL or MCL also though. This can lead to knee cap instability down the road for him.

I mentioned 3 weeks ago to someone that it would not shock me if Cleveland made the postseason. It still does not shock me.

^
Even though the season is drawing in on a close, that road is still long. A lot of bad can happen in a week / or less. :nervous:

Here's hoping for the best though.

I picked them to win the wildcard before the season started. A competition between me, my dad and my grandma.
I think I'm winning, but I'll have to double check.

Much closer game than last night, but same result- loss. This time, 3-2 to the Texas Rangers. STILL stuck on 51 wins. Now as of this game, we've beaten Texas a grand total of... twice this season. The Astros eventually figured out the Oakland Athletics one series. We did pretty well against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. A few good wins over Seattle. An unlikely scenario would be that if the Astros won out, they'd actually finish with a better record than last season. That ain't happening now. I know the Rangers need all the help they can get, but this is damned sad for the now 51-107 Astros.

(most of the below material is according to various sites, including baseball-reference.com)

On a VERY positive note, at least the 2013 Houston Astros aren't the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, who finished 20-134. While we're riding an 11-game losing streak, this is nothing compared to the 26-game losing streak the 1889 Louisville Colonels had. The most modern team to post a record worse than what my 2013 Astros may finish was the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who finished 43-119. So on a positive note, the Astros have yet in their team history to win 49 games or less. Even when the Astros entered Major League Baseball the same year as the New York Mets (1962) as the Colt .45's, we posted a record of 64-96. The Astros have NEVER had a season with 100 losses until 2011. So these are about the worst times of this franchise. Despite this, I WILL say that the Astros have done very well adjusting to the American League in just their first-ever AL season.

It still doesn't take away the disappointment that has been the 2013 Astros. There are improvements and hope for the future, but the here-and-now is pathetic.

I guess we officially set the MLB record with most extra innings played this season. Seems like every game went into extras.

Rangers trailing 3-1 in the 4th... Elsewhere, Todd Helton and Andy Pettitte said goodbye to their respective home crowds. Helton is no doubt a HOFer, Pettitte...don't think so since he is linked to PEDs.

EDIT-bases-clearing double for Leonys Martin! :D

Rangers sweep the Astros again, 7-3.

Now to finish off the season against the Angels...and hopefully, we will play in October. I'm hoping for some help from the Twins, Jays, and Yankees. Speaking of the Yankees...officially eliminated!! :D 👍

First ever to go back-to-back?

So another Astros loss? Maybe the Astros need the day off tomorrow to figure out how not to lose ever again when we host the Yankees. 12 straight losses. Terrible.
