The Reds won't lose tonight! That's because thankfully we have the day off. Losing streak is up to 10 games now. Straily pitched a strong 7 innings last night, allowing 3 runs with 11 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Even Wood came out of the bullpen and K'd 2 in a scoreless inning. And yet the end result is the same. All we could muster was 1 lousy run. In fact, we scored a total of 3 runs the entire series against the Dodgers. Two excellent pitching performances by Reds were wasted by the anemic offense.

If it weren't for Atlanta and Minnesota's miserable starts, we would easily be in the cellar of the MLB. At least we have a series starting up against the Brew Crew tomorrow night. We might be able to take one, with an emphasis on the word "might".

Milwaukee has really fallen from grace the past few years. Almost kind of like how the Houston Astros have been ever since that improbable 2005 World Series run. It's going to feel like rock bottom if the Reds don't win at least one game with the series at Milwaukee. As for Atlanta and Minnesota, both have 12 wins each as of this post. You guys in Cincy have 15 wins while Milwaukee has 20. Since you all are on the road, bullpen support is going to be crucial especially if you all have a lead going. Having a lead late or being tied late on the road means you have to make sure the home team doesn't pull off any walk-off winning magic. All you can do is tough it out and hope for a little luck.

Elsewhere...

Pittsburgh ran over Arizona 8-3 in Pittsburgh, Miami slapped around Tampa Bay 9-1 at "The Trop," and Toronto went into the Bronx and fizzled out the New York Yankees 3-1. The game between the Chicago White Sox at the Kansas City Royals got postponed. Speaking of KC, the Moose won't be loose any time soon. In fact, Mike Moustakas is probably done for the season for a torn ACL. No fun for the defending champs.

Congratulations to all other winners from this Thursday up to and beyond the time of this post.

Something else I read today was that Rougned Odor of the Texas Rangers had his 8-game suspension shortened to a 7-game suspension. R. Odor, as you may recall, was the one who laid a wicked haymaker to Toronto's José Bautista when the Blue Jays played at Texas earlier this season.

Rangers Stadium Update: The council vote was unanimous. The following steps are on August 2nd, the council meets again to call for a measure to be placed on the November 8th ballot to extend the current half-cent sales tax hike that is currently financing AT&T Stadium. If approved by the voters, the stadium will start construction in 2017 in time for the 2021 season, three years before the team's lease on Globe Life Park expires.

The vote came on the heels of Dallas city leaders courting the team to move.

This is Game #48 for the Houston Astros Baseball Club. We won 4-2 tonight here in Houston. It is our 20th win of the season, the first-ever 3-game winning streak for the Astros this season, and our first sweep of the season. As they say- better late than never. Lance McCullers was the winner for Houston as Ken Giles got his first Save. Luke Gregerson had the night off. For Baltimore, it was a loss for Kevin Gausman.

Up next for Houston... inner-forum rivalry and an AL West showdown. It's my Houston Astros of Houston at Patrick's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Three game weekend set. LATE GAMES! At least this is a chance for Houston to fight their way out of the AL West basement. But considering how brutal a road team we are, I'm not so confident in my boys pulling out a series win on the road. We'll see what happens, though.

Congratulations to Thursday's other winners, including the Colorado Rockies pounding the Boston Red Sox in Boston along with Jackie Bradley Jr.'s hitting streak ending at 29 games.

A 6-spot in the third inning was the difference in the Angels blasting the Astros 7-2 Friday night in Anaheim. Houston has been 4-12 so far against the AL West. This loss isn't helping their cause. Matt Shoemaker was the LAA winner, and Matt Fiers was the HOU loser.

Congratulations to Friday's winners, including the Detroit Tigers' 4-1 victory at California's other AL team- the Oakland Athletics.

I felt like the players were wearing the opposite uniforms today as the Reds came back from a 6-1 deficit and beat the Brew Crew today. We put up a 5 spot in the 7th inning off of the opposing team's bullpen instead of the other way around. Granted the Reds' bullpen did still give up 3 runs in their first 1 1/3 innings after Simon got tossed for hitting Milwaukee's pitcher, Anderson (likely payback for him getting drilled earlier). What I don't quite understand is how Anderson could hit 3 Reds without getting thrown while Simon only hit the 1 Brewer yet was sent to the showers early. Another Red and Brewer would be hit later in, tying the modern National League record of 6 hit batsmen in a single game (also interestingly a number matched by the Reds earlier this season against the Pirates). In any case, it was a dramatic comeback and MUCH needed win after the extended losing streak. Duvall was the man of the game, hitting a 3 run bomb for the second day in a row. Hopefully we can make it two in a row tomorrow. Finnegan will be on the mound, one start after pitching a 1 run, complete game against the Dodgers (in which he still took the loss... :grumpy:)

The Houston Astros continued their series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Anaheim. This time, LAA sent out Jered Weaver to try to shut down my man Dallas Keuchel for HOU. This match finished 4-2 in favor of... the Houston Astros! So we hit Blackjack (21) on the win total with this win. Dallas Keuchel picked up the win and got a Save from Luke Gregerson. Meanwhile, it was Jered Weaver who took the loss for the Halos. Rubber Game Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to the other winners from Saturday, including an improbable come-from-way-behind, walk-off win for the Kansas City Royals, defeating the visiting Chicago White Sox down big in the 9th Inning.

Thanks to Twitter, I learned of who won today's game between the Houston Astros at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Friday- LAA won. Saturday- HOU win. Today? We couldn't handle our business in nine innings, so it was the Astros winning 8-6 in 13 innings. The difference maker was a three-run jack in the 13th inning by Carlos Correa. We headed into extras tied at 5. The winning pitcher for HOU was Michael Feliz, and he got a Save from Luke Gregerson. Mike Morin was LAA's losing pitcher. A series win against divisional opponents is always cool.

Up next for the Astros... we're going into the desert to play with some snakes. Yep- another NL reunion for the Astros as we're at the Arizona Diamondbacks starting tomorrow.

Congratulations to the other winners from Sunday, including the New York Yankees avoiding being no-hit at the Tampa Bay Rays, and also the Washington Nationals winning with authority with a wicked Grand Slam from Jayson Werth hosting St. Louis.

[UPDATE] Three-run homer, not two. My apologies.

Hand in your fan card.

Royals dragging up minor league players to replace the injured starters, & still winning. Must be living right...

Happy Memorial Day, everyone.

You can't win if you don't score. The New York Mets knocked off the visiting Chicago White Sox 1-0. It was a win for Matt Harvey along with a Save from Jeurys Familia on the Mets' side. It was José Quintana who picked up the loss for the White Sox. NYM scored the game's only run in the Bottom of the 7th.

Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona saw the Houston Astros lead early and often to cruise to an 8-3 victory at the Arizona Diamondbacks. Most of the game was 8-1 after we put a 4-spot on the D-Backs in the Top of the 2nd followed two more runs each in the Top of the 3rd and 4th innings. Our winner was Collin McHugh. The Diamondbacks' losing pitcher was Edwin Escobar.

Congratulations to all other winners up to and beyond the time of this post on this Memorial Day Monday.

Offense aplenty in Denver as the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies combine for 19 runs. Though they could have won by more, it was Dolph Drago's Reds on the winning end of the 11-8 final score. I saw on MLB Network's Live Look-In when Cincy loaded the bases down 5-3 as Joey Votto hit a deep ground-ruled double. A little more charge and hitting the ball on the screws would have given the Reds a Grand Slam. Still, the Reds ain't never scared as they picked up the win. Dan Straily was the winning CIN pitcher and got a Save from J.C. Ramirez. For COL, Chad Bettis took the loss. No relation to NFL Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis, by the way.

The Redlegs somehow have taken 2 of their last 3 games. Today we fell behind but had a 5 run 4th inning. I was actually listening to the game on my way home from work and got to hear good things happen for once. It sure sounded like Votto about knocked it out of the park. We tacked on a couple more runs later. Of course, the bullpen still had to give up 3 runs in the 9th because...well, it's the Reds bullpen. At least we managed to hold on for the win.

I never thought I would say this but the Bucs won 10-0 in Miami and Jeff Locke was brilliant. A CG shutout allowing only 3 singles and facing only 28 batters. All of that was done with 0 BB and only 1K. If you have never seen Locke pitch he is a guy that lives on the corners because he has below avg stuff and in most games has to rely on the size of the strike zone to be effective. Last night he attacked the hitters and made them swing at his pitches and it was outstanding performance.

Bucs are +3 games ahead of last years 98 win pace and .5 closer to the already media declared division champion Cubs compared to last years 7gb of STL.

We are on a home-and-home four-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Today was an 8-5 victory for the Houston Astros. Part of this convincing win were jacks by Luis Valbuena and even a "Springer Dinger" helped contribute to the Astros pounding out runs early. So we've now won four straight (longest win streak so far this season) and are now tied for third in the AL West. Not a bad way to end May, eh? A Save by Luke Gregerson followed by a win for Lance McCullers make up the winning pitching combo for Houston. Patrick Corbin was the loser for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Up next... a five-game homestand starting with the back end of this HOU-ARI set here in Houston followed by a three-game weekend series hosting the Oakland Athletics.

Congratulations to all winners of Tuesday's games up to and beyond the time of this post, including San Diego getting demolished ugly in beautiful Seattle by Seattle.

No baseball for a long time for Mr. Marlon Byrd of the Cleveland Indians. Why? He's hit with his second suspension for Performance Enhancing Drugs. It's a 162-game suspension for Byrd.

A few games are on right now. The score is tied 1-1 currently with the Chicago White Sox at the New York Mets, Top of the 8th. It is currently 3-0, Milwaukee as they host the St. Louis Cardinals; End of the 8th inning.

Wrapped up recently...

Nine innings wasn't enough here in Houston. A walk-off "Springer Dinger" lifted my Houston Astros over the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in 11 innings. George Springer was the hero hitting a walk-off jack to the Crawford Boxes for the win. It might have been a blown Save, but the win for Houston went to Michael Feliz. Tyler Clippard picked up the loss for Arizona.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners, including road wins by Detroit and Cincinnati.

Heh. So the Reds took 3 of 4 from the Rockies at Coors Field. Balls were flying out of the ballpark on both sides all series long. Since our 11 game losing streak, we've now won 4 of our last 7.

The Houston Astros were enjoying their five-game winning streak (longest win streak of the season)... until yesterday afternoon. Just like the weather recently here in Houston, it was a wash-out for us, as we lost 3-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. So this four-game home-and-home series ends up with us sweeping in Arizona but splitting in Houston. Zack Greinke was the ARI winner and got a Save from Brad Ziegler. Dallas Keuchel probably wishes this were 2015 again because again he lost at home.

Up next- more important business for the Astros- we're hosting the Oakland Athletics. Divisional series are always a big deal.

Congratulations to all other winners from Thursday, including a Sacrifice Fly leading to a walk-off win for the Cleveland Indians over the visiting Kansas City Royals.

Astros. Athletics. Three-game weekend series. Minute Maid Park in downtown Houston, Texas. First blood in this one went to the Astros with authority. We won our 26th game of the season thanks to a 12-2 thrashing of the Athletics tonight. I think we were up 7-0 heading into the 3rd inning. Looking at the box score, we hung 7 runs on the A's in just the first inning. That 7-spot helped in giving Doug Fister picked up the win for Houston and giving Jesse Hahn the loss for Oakland. Even with bad weather likely for tomorrow, we suit up and play ball again Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere...

I usually discuss games from the current day, but I want to talk about a game from yesterday. Did you follow that story of yesterday's Interleague game with Seattle at San Diego? San Diego was ahead 12-2 of Seattle, so you're thinking they got this one wrapped up. Poor Seattle. No chance of coming back. ...said everybody except the Seattle Mariners. San Diego was up about 12-2. In just two innings, slapped on a total of 14 runs (5 in the Top 6th, 9 in the Top 7th. All the Padres could manage was just one more run in the Bottom of the 7th. The game ended up a 16-13 victory for the Seattle Mariners. Offense aplenty in that game! And yes... the San Diego Padres are a hot mess.

Congratulations to Friday's other winners, including blowout wins by both of Ohio's Major League Baseball teams. Also... spare some thoughts for former Houston Astro Hunter Pence. Pence requires hamstring surgery and will be on the shelf for about 8 weeks.

[UPDATE] Forgot to mention Hunter Pence.

Both the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers are rocking pinstripes today. I kind of dig those vintage Detroit uniforms. Then too, as much as I am an Astros fan, I do sort of like the Detroit Tigers- the uniforms, the logos, their ballpark... cool stuff. By the way, as of the time of this post, Detroit plated another run to lead 6-2 in the Bottom of the 8th.

Meanwhile in Houston... my Houston Astros are currently hanging on to a 5-4 lead in the Bottom of the 8th against the visiting Oakland Athletic as of the time of this post.
