Reds have a 3-2 lead going into the 8th, with Straily having pitched 7 excellent innings of 2 hit, 2 run ball. Bullpenner Ohlendorf comes in, naturally gives up a solo shot to allow Washington to tie. Aaaaand then the rain hits, putting the game into delay. It could have been a completed game had we just taken a little longer to complete the bottom of the 7th. Instead, we're probably looking at a loss whenever the game gets back underway. :grumpy:

The Houston Astros won 6-5 today, but this one needed 12 innings for the score to be settled. We had a 5-4 lead heading into the Top of the 9th until the A's tied it up at 5. We ended up playing our ninth Extra Inning game this season. I think I heard teams like the New York Yankees have played about three extra inning games so far, and I think I also heard Detroit has played only one extra inning game. It was a walk-off RBI single by Carlos Correa that helped lift the Astros on this day. Scott Feldman was the winner. You mad, Madson son? He probably should be because Ryan Madson took the loss for OAK. Series finale tomorrow afternoon here in H-Town. Win #27 for the Houston Astros Baseball Club this season. Now 27-30.

Congratulations to Saturday's other winners, including the New York Mets taking down the Miami Marlins in Miami.

Pleasantly surprised.

The rain delay in Cincy happened with men on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. When the rain let up and game resumed, Adam Duvall hit an upper decker to give the Reds a 6-3 lead and eventual win. He's been a monster with the long ball this season. We may finally have a left fielder for the first time in about three years. Of course, he was mainly just there to keep the seat warm for Winker when he eventually comes up. We'll have to see how this plays out in the future. Amazingly on a 4 game winning streak.

I think I saw a little bit of Joey Votto going yard today for the Reds. He hit a pretty good bomb to put Cincinnati ahead earlier in the game. Good job to hang on eventually.

If the Reds trade him, can the Rangers have him? We have injury issues ourselves.

Yeah, he's been really scuffling all year. Very un-Votto like so far this season. Looks like he may finally starting to heat up.

If Winker comes up and hits well, I guess you can have him...maybe.

Knowing your team, you'd trade him and then wonder what you actually got for him.

We swept the Oakland Athletics in this series with a 5-2 victory. Only the second sweep we've logged so far this season. The winner for Houston was Lance McCullers. His efforts were complimented with a Save from Will Harris. It was a dull day for Ryan Dull, as he took the loss for the A's. We are now 28-30 the season after such a brutal start.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... we're going to entertain the Texas Rangers for a four-game set up in Arlington, TX. Then after that, we're then going to entertain the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa Bay for a three-game set this coming weekend.

Congratulations to Sunday's other winners, including another win by the Detroit Tigers hosting the floundering Chicago White Sox.

Quite true.

As for the Reds today, we dropped the final game of the series and a potential sweep by the score of 10-9 to the Nationals ball club. We rushed out to a 5-0 score by the end of the 2nd inning, but Washington put 10 straight on the board to bring the score to 10-5 reaching the end of the 6th. Bruce hit a 3 run bomb in the 7th to bring it to within 2. We tacked on another run in the 9th, making it a 1 run game affair. Eventually we ended up with the bases loaded with no outs after an intentional walk to Bruce (I guess Dusty didn't want to make the same mistake twice :D). But the Reds being the Reds, managed to get nothing, nada, nil, zippo under those nice, favorable conditions. All we needed was a fly ball from either of the first two batters to tie it up. Nope. Popout. Strikeout. THEN the fly out that would have easily plated the run to end the game. 10-9 Nationals. :(

Heading into today's/tonight's games, here is a standings update. How are your team(s) doing? Any errors will be corrected (I'm sure I'll make at least one)...

So there you have it. Anything catches your eye from these standings and observations? And I remembered to include Cleveland this time unlike my previous update. There is still a lot of season left, so don't feel too bad if your team is doing poorly or mediocre. A simple hot streak by failing teams can put them right back into division races. There is also All-Star Voting going on. So be sure to send your favorite players to this year's All-Star Game in San Diego.

Other than that, good luck to all of your team(s) moving forward. I am surely glad to come onto GTP and talk baseball with you all, not to mention start some decent conversations on baseball here.

I had tickets to tonight's Pirates vs. Mets game. Too bad it rained like hell when I was there, I was really looking forward to Neil Walker's return to the 'Burgh. :grumpy:

And in Arlington... this four-game set in the Battle for the Silver Boot with my Astros at the Texas Rangers started up. So far, so bad. Tied at 5, R. Odor smelled like roses hitting a deep shot to left center. It wasn't a homer, but it was just as effective. We ended up losing 6-5 and still have yet to defeat the Texas Rangers this season. We may damn well get swept there for all I know. The TEX winner was Sam Dyson. Taking defeat for HOU was Ken Giles. We'll try again AGAIN to defeat the Texas Rangers tomorrow night.

Congratulations to the other winners from Monday. Too bad my Astros couldn't be among the winning teams at this time.

Just wrapped up...

In a doubleheader slated for today, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Mets 3-1 in Pittsburgh in Game 1 of this doubleheader. It was Jonathan Niese who picked up the win and got a Save from former Astro Mark Melancon. On the side of the losing Mets, Steven Matz was tagged with the loss. Game 2 of this Doubleheader is later tonight in Pittsburgh.

Good luck to all other teams playing tonight. Then too, just about every team plays on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Glad to see my Buccos sweep the double-header. 👍

Reds blew a 6-1 lead tonight. Lamb had a good start tonight, going 7 and a third innings and allowing only 1 earned run (and 2 unearned thanks to errors). Cingrani allowed the tying runs in the 9th to make it 6 apiece. But Votto made it all better by blasting a ball into straightaway center for the walk-off win.

By the way, Duvall hit yet another 3 run moon shot tonight. He's been the master at hitting those types this season.

The Texas Rangers want to go 8-0 over my Astros. Tonight, they succeded. We failed again. This time, a 4-3 loss for the Astros. TEX's winner was Jake Diekman along with a Save from Sam Dyson. Dallas Keuchel was HOU's losing pitcher. Just because you play in the greater area of a city you're named after doesn't mean you'll win there. Two more chances this series to defeat the Texas Rangers for the first time this season... or two more chances to fail again.

Well... congratulations to all winners from Tuesday.

The guy the Pirates drafted #2 in 2010 who was supposed to be the staff ace Jameson Taillon makes his MLB debut tonight vs the 38th pick in 2010 Noah Syndergaard. Taiilon missed nearly 2 yrs with T.J. surgery and then a hernia surgery last year. He was dominating at AAA Indy with 61.2 IP, 2.04 ERA, 6bb, 61 k and a 0.811 WHIP. He throws a 94-96 MPH 4 seamer, 12-6 curve plus a 2 seamer and changeup. The Bucs took him #2 after Wash. took some guy named Harper and the Bucs passed on Matt Harvey (fine with me) and Chris Sale (:banghead:) who spent all of 11 relief appearances in the minors.

Tigers won 3-2 with a walk off in the 10th via Ian Kinsler single.

The White Sox certainly are happy with the Bucs not getting Sale because he's been a monster for them this year. He does usually suck against the Tigers, though.

The Houston Astros will NOT be swept this season or in this series to the Texas Rangers thanks to us winning 3-1 tonight in Arlington. About freaking time beating the team I think will win the AL West regardless (Texas). Winning and losing pitchers... HOU's winning combination was Doug Fister getting the win and a Save from Will Harris; and the losing pitcher for TEX was Tom Wilhelmson. One more go in this four-game series. We can either split this four-game set or lose the series to the Rangers.

Elsewhere...

* Did you see last night's brawl between the Kansas City Royals at the Baltimore Orioles? What is up with Yordano Ventura? He plunked Manny Machado of Baltimore. What did Ventura get in response? A delicious knuckle sandwich by Machado. Have to wonder what punishments will be levied. Speaking of the O's...

* 4-0 was what Baltimore beat Kansas City by tonight. Winning for Baltimore was Chris Tillman, and he got a Save from Brad Brach. Edinson Volquez was tabbed for the loss for KC.

* The Detroit Tigers whacked the Toronto Blue Jays pretty good on Tuesday. This Wednesday afternoon, however, the Tigers got tamed 7-2 at home. Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey was Toronto's winner, and Detroit's loser was Jordan Zimmerman.

* The Washington Nationals went to the south side of Chicago and hammered the Chicago White Sox 11-4. This incident of NL-on-AL violence was a win by Max Scherzer. Brand-new White Sox member James Shields took the loss.

* The Mets and Pirates couldn't settle their business in nine innings, so they needed 10. The New York Mets won 6-5 at Pittsburgh. Working Overtime for the win was Addison Reed and a Save from Jeurys Familia. For Pittsburgh, it was a loss for Cory Luebke.

* The Cardinals won 12-7 at the Cincinnati Reds. Matt Bowman was the winning pitcher for STL while Alfredo Simon was CIN's losing pitcher.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners.

Tigers just sucked last night. It is was it is.

It's kind of funny that whenever KC gets into a brawl, Ventura is almost always mentioned as one of the instigators. I got a feeling they're both getting suspended (Machado charging the mound is a suspension by itself). The one question I've got is who will be suspended longer- Ventura, or Machado?

Since Ventura hasn't learned his lesson at all, I'd say he gets a longer suspension. Especially after this came out yesterday:
Ventura plans to throw at Bautista.
Machado will get a week in the cooler. I would not be surprised to see Ventura get 15+ games.

Damn. I knew he had a history and figured that it would play a hand in the suspension, but he's a hell of a lot dumber than I initially thought he was. The MLB is already going to watch Jose like a hawk after the whole Odor incident, and one would have thought that a guy with a history of initiating brawls would have been a lot smarter than to go after someone who was already being watched after how he was involved in one.
