Mario Andretti's 1948 Hudson Hot Lap @ Willow Springs

1:32:980! :D The shifting around 4,5K RPM really helps! :) Just be smooth with your lines, and this one isn't hard at all. This is coming from someone with huge problems in the M4 Seasonal! :dopey:

Same and I still had a few dificulties with the Hudson, but fortunally the curbs helped (they would pull the car back to track). Also I did managed bronze on M4 , luckly.

Managed to get 1.29.7xx and sitting at #145. I feel no desire to improve any further, 1.30 was my goal.

Being aggresive is the problem. being steady and shifting early was the key to my success. The speed starts to drop off way before the redline, use the torques Luke.

This. With my DFGT I got to 1:33:6xx without aids except ABS 1 (and driving line, since it was my first time on this track). Then I read this and started to shift at 5k rpm at latest. With this I immediately got down to 1:32:251.

You really need to brake early with this thing, and get on the throttle early out of the corners. You can cut the corners a bit too. Then you can also get a bit of "rail effect" by getting the inner front wheel over the edge of the track, and it will help turn the car.

Well, I guess my problems weren't that big then... I managed to get silver and bronze easily, just getting gold was a problem :scared:

Nice to drive something slow for a while..

I use dfgt wheel set to simulation.

-TC off
-SRF off
-AS off
-ASM off
-ABS off

It took 2 hours but i got it down to 1:30,974 I am quite happy:)

Then i noticed the board, 1:26 something in the top ten... :banghead:

Well, i did my best with that old rusty...

aww i got 0.012 seconds off on first try :(
EDIT: haha i turned off traction controll and got 1:31.442! WINNING!!! (not actually winning, you know what i mean!)

SRF is STOOPID!
I took me 30min earlier today to get 1:34 with everything OFF.
I just got home, read the comments, turned SRF on, shifted @ 4,5k, drove like a lunatic sliding all around and got 1:32:870 on the first try of this evening!!! Well, ain't that just a git lump of poop having SRF?

Got Gold with no Driver aids. (ABS=0) (Save a Ghost Tron-bike Replay from some helpful Japanese lass who was fast this morning) - No that hard, just built up pace learning the track and the grip from the tyres.

Line and confidence here. You can give up speed in places but then go full chat in others for long sections. - The Fishbowl Hairpin felt pretty nice at the top of the track.

good luck.

Got a silver without SRF, but I wanted to see how big of a difference it made. It was a bit easier with it on. Feeling guilty now.:guilty:

When I first started I was off by about 2.5 seconds (1:35ish), and thought there's no way I'm going to gold this.

6 laps later, .5 a second here, 1 second there, I managed to get to 1:31.353 ?!?

My biggest improvement was later braking, corner squaring and most importantly, short shifting. It seems like the power is better the higher gear you're in, the torque is just looking at the graph, but the power seems to be in the middle, I changed around 5000rpm, maybe sooner, its saying maximum power at 3400rpm (?). Hard to read the graph completely.

The first corner I found you had to brake really much earlier than you think, and some corners (2nd or 3rd corner), you at first think its a first gear corner, but most of the time it'll be a 2nd gear corner, if you're doing 9Xkm/h in 1st gear, imo, you're doing it wrong.

EDIT: Yeah SRF off, why would I turn it on?

It took me a good 20-30 tries, but I finally got it. As always, all aids off except for ABS 1. It took about 45 minutes to an hour, with lots of cursing, and throwing of hands up into the air, haha.

This event was so much fun. I got silver at first, but then got gold after practicing a lot learning the car's handling and gears without any aids on. Also, I thank a friend of mine who showed me how to conquer those corners at Willow Springs. :)

Agreed on those corners. I'm usually a bit nervous about going over the corners or the curb too much since some seasonals have been really touchy about where it's allowed and how much and I hate invalidating my laps, but when I looked at the replay from the top guy earlier this evening and saw he was cutting the corners with two wheels left and right my time improved dramatically (as well as my level of fun in an already fun car. :) ).
