McLaren MP/4-29 launch

It's something of a rule that we do not create threads for car launches until about a day or two in advance. Since the E22 will not get launched until the Bahrain test, it will be a while.

It has just been revealed on their Facebook page.

My eyes they hurt, not liking the Livery Change either.

I'm wishing Mercedes don't go with virtually the same livery they've used since 2010, otherwise we may have a harder time distinguishing it from the McLaren. Apart from the nose design if it's any different.

So long as it's competitive a competitive package, I hope they can finally do well again this year.

The nose looks like an elephant trunk. It will grab debris from the track, and feed it to the driver.

Insert comment about Roll Tide.

Let's hope Kevin and Jenson haven't decided on yellow helmets this year.

It's a device to disable the rear end of enemy cars.

Pity they didn't have one last year. Sergio would have put it to good use.

Actually, the nose on the McLaren looks like a comedy version of this:

Even has a little mouth on it. :odd:

As far as I can tell, Mclaren were trying to do this:

I have to say, I like this quite a bit more than the step nose shelf thing from a year or two ago. Doesn't look too bad.

that is one of the reasons why I don't like it.

They look so good… from the side. Here's a comparison of the last few McLarens:

Interesting there's no mention on here about the nose looking like a rampant rabbit. 'Novel structures' is very polite…

Probably we have to wait until the new main sponsor will be announced. Black letters/logos on silver paint isn't the best for visibility and the main target for a sponsor is to be recognized, so we'll see some colored spots around the livery, I guess.
A partner with green logos (like Petronas with Mercedes) as new sponsor, that will be an issue for viewers.

This was just posted on McLaren's facebook page. It's a sad day for F1 when the only thing the general fan base can initially talk about is how much the noses of the cars look like reproductive organs...

What I find sad is how emotional someone could get about this, it's hardly something to cry about...
No because I have to watch the goddamn races and these riduculous cars bother the hell out of me.
It's still a visual sport, people watch F1 on TV, and how the cars are done is still an important part of the sport.
I remember when F1's were awesome back in the 90's.

Can someone show me another 200mph motor sport that requires a phallus on the front of the vehicles?

I'm guessing the answer is 'no'. So why the hell does the FIA think this is the correct way to go? For safety? This isn't the only solution, surely!

You don't have to watch the races, you could watch 90's races on loop if it bothers you that much.

McLaren aren't planning on having a main sponsor to replace Vodafone this season, right?

Sony might end up getting a spot somewhere on the car, but I don't suspect we'll see any turquoise on there any time soon. The lack of red provided by their long-term title sponsors has left it looking like a Petronas-less Merc at the moment.

If we were out of a forum I would have answered with a huge middle finger.

Since we are in a forum, I just say I became a F1 fan because F1 were good looking race cars, all of them, no matter if Ferrari wasn't the most competitive car. I enjoyed the sport because all cars were good looking spaceships. So yes, sound like you are complaining about the complainers.

Finally someone with common sense.

Teams must act on 'Alien' F1 2014 noses, says Cyril Abiteboul

Formula 1 chiefs may have to get together to discuss ways to get rid of the ugly look of the 2014 noses, reckons Caterham team boss Cyril Abiteboul.

Team bosses and technical staff have openly admitted that the extreme nose solutions this year will make the cars look unattractive.

Abiteboul says the Caterham version reminds him of the main antagonist from the 'Alien' films.

F1 teams concerned by 'ugly' 2014 designs

When asked by AUTOSPORT about how the new Caterham will look, he said: "It is going to be ugly.

"I think F1 is still show business and it should still be attractive to people.

"Kids should be dreaming when they see an F1 car - I don't know about the dream or nightmare you will be having when you look at those cars.

"It does remind me of the 'Alien' film with it coming out the mouth."

But beyond the criticisms they will prompt, Abiteboul thinks the look of the noses is so bad that it could turn potential fans away from F1.

"It is a natural consequence of the regulations and the impact structure at the front," he added.
