I'm looking at my shelf now and I see five PS4 games. What's this about us not having anything to play?
...I didn't mean it literally, are you guys even getting it or just trolling?
Kojima has said that he wanted to release GZ and TPP as one, but Sony wanted a Metal Gear game as a PS4 launch title. Since the entire game was nowhere near finished, Kojima decided to rethink the prologue and release it as a stand-alone episode.
Now that's interesting (and kind of stupid because of this 'prologue' stuff).

I'm under the Impression that Konami wanted this game out to recoup money spent on Fox Engine more so than Sony wanting it on PS4.

A clean menu that might be useful for wallpaper, enjoy  1920x1080 :D

Man that face just makes me want to give Big Boss a CQC hug.

Speaking of the severity of the tapes, here's a Gamespot article addressing the controversial nature of the torture/violence portrayed(and the censorship involved). Personally, I don't understand how gaming journalists have resorted to bashing developers for attempting to mature the content of their games. After playing a fair portion of this game, I can say with confidence, Ground Zeroes has a fittingly dark tone. After all, these are the events which started a spiral ... very little humor will be found. Though, the humor I did come across felt like old times .SPOILERS WARNING:)http://www.gamespot.com/articles/metal-gear-solid-5-ground-zeroes-censored-in-japan/1100-6418430/

@Ridox2JZGTE I have not found a source as to the exact content censored. However, Gamespot did confirm that the Computer Entertainment Ratings Organization(CERO) censored portions of the game in Japan. All of the translations I'm finding are either wrong or unclear.
"Hideo Kojima confirmed the censorship in this week's issue of Famitsu."--vg247http://www.famitsu.com/

Alright, time for a more serious post now that I have played it a bit:

- This is what a Metal Gear game should be. As much as I love the previous games, there has usually only ever been one route, and progress amounts to memorising an enemy patrol route and then timing your move to get by or take them down. Here there are multiple routes, and the enemy paths require a different approach depending on the route you take.

- Likewise, it always feels like there is more than one way to deal with a situation. Although the previous games offered options like moving bodies, I never really used them unless I was bored. Here, it never feels like you can rely on one strategy to get by.

- There is a nice balance between risk versus reward. I found the armoury near the entry point, and even though I took out the guard in the nearby tower, I did not hide him very well and nearly got caught while I stocked up on smoke grenades. The balance between risk and reward works because there is always a sense that while you have to stop and think about what to do next, you cannot stay in one place for long.

- I like the way weapons have range. I was too used to shooting a dart all the way across a map (seriously, I can get a headshot from one end of PEACE WALKER's banana farm to the other), which caught me out when I realised the darts only have a reliable range of twenty metres. Again, it forces you to plan ahead. That said, sleep darts and stun attacks don't seem to wear off naturally.

- I have not used Reflex yet, but the elements from other franchises, like tagging enemies (BLACK FLAG) and the directional alert when spotted (practically any shooter) don't feel forced. They compliment the gameplay very well.

- Also, the English teacher in me loves the use of Ennio Morricone's "Here's To You". I'm a lover of film, and Morricone is one of my favourite composers. The use of the song brings some very, very powerful juxtaposition.

I think the longest lethal headshot in the world[at the moment] is a smidge past 300 meters. I prefer only a straight post on iron sights so I use the relative aiming instead of the circular/halo iron sight[Wu Stun Pistol]. Off-topic but worth mentioning: my favorite Morricone composition is The Mission(Main Theme).

It seems the stun attacks wear off, at least in my game, in about 3-5 minutes(on Normal)1-3 min(on Hard). I have not noticed any dart attacks wearing off. Also, if I stun or dart attack a guard and kick him but remain hidden he still sends the base on alert status.

I was also watching a playthough of the game the other day, and I noticed that if the base goes into alert status(either by shooting cameras, waking guards, whatever), it doesn't count against your ranking. Only by going into reflex mode, if you have it turned on, does it count against your ranking.

Have you guys thrown any bodies into the water? It's quite fun, and actually helps you keep the base from going to alert status.

I extracted two guards to keep them from waking up while rescuing prisoners. I should try that...

One of the first things my friend did when he tried GZ was dive into a guard as he spotted him, then while they were both on the ground he sat up and shot the guy in the head. Slightly more brutal than what Zidane did that time, but also far more effective. Also hilarious.

I'm my own worst enemy. I tranquilised the two guards near the boiler room, but I didn't do a very good job of hiding their bodies. They got found almost immediately after the next checkpoint, leaving me with three guards in a narrow passageway and more on the way.

This game exceeded my expectations. It's true that it does have a short main story but the side missions and trials are where we are going to get its hours from. I've spent many hours completing all the missions with the S rank (Intel Operative Rescue was a pain in the ass), completing all trials and beating them afterwards. This game is way over 2 hours and at $30 it's well worth the purchase.

Now a little off-topic stuff. This was posted on the MGS V neogaf topic, holy ****! Give me dat cake

Paz's diary, 5th entry. What even the hell? Some saucy stuff right there
I appreciate that they are there for the sake of exposition, given that the game is a sequel to PEACE WALKER, but PEACE WALKER's release on handheld consoles and later in the HD collection meant that not everyone got to play it. But given what you had to go through to get them in PEACE WALKER - I had to get the fifth entry from the Chrysalis Custom, my least favourite because only one weapon is truly effective against it - it seems to be a bit of a let-down to have them readily available in GROUND ZEROES.

I've gotten the S-rank on the first four missions so far. Boy the "Classified Intel Acquisition" was an easy one the way I did it. 👍

EDIT: Just got the S-rank for the "Destroy the Anti-Air Emplacements as well. That was even easier!

I just saw a speedrun firing the FB MR R-Launcher at the very beginning of the GZ mission(distraction). Brilliant!

I stumbled into completing it, but ran into a glitch: if you use a checkpoint after acquiring the tape, the truck will respawn outside the base, making it impossible to get the achievement. And I found another in "Eliminate the Renegade Threat" when I tried to carry one of the targets to a helicopter extraction point; the game disqualified me because the target had left the area, even though I was carrying him.

That second one happened to me too. On my playthrough, I believe it happened because I knocked him out and he woke up at that point. Did you tranq him?

Yeah, I use the tranquiliser all the time. I was taking him to the extraction point on the coast nearest to the prison, and dropped off one of the small ledges. I'm guessing that's what tripped the glitch - I did it again, this time going down the slope, and I didn't have a problem.

Surely the sniper rifle will give the longest headshot?

I've only just realised the game is out, today, so I went and grabbed a copy this morning.
Being as useless as me at stealth games means anyone can drag lots and lots of hours of fun and stress out of this cheap title.
I'm impressed, but I have found a few glitches so far.
Only 23% in, but enjoying it immensely.
Can someone help me out here, is there a way to view the cutscenes, cos I'm sure I saw a particular, erm, face, at the very end of one, and Id like to check without watching that whole Paz tummy ache thing all over again......

Remember that scene in The Dark Knight......
"my tummy hurts....."
......ring ring.....

:irked:👍

There's no way to watch them again that I am aware of. But as far as I know, there are only two cut-scenes: the opening and the ending. So even if you could watch them again, you would have to sit through that scene again. I doubt you saw who you thought you saw, though - if you had have, the internet would have already picked up on it.

Anyway, just finished off all of the Side Ops. The Intel mission is probably my favourite, since there are so many options, but it is a little easy if you're quick. I also like "Eliminate the Rogue Threat", even if it is similar to the main mission, mostly because I had to take huge risks to pull it off, and it was very satisfying to get away with it. The other two are a little too action-oriented for my liking, and I rate them about the same. I haven't had a chance to play "Jamais-Vu" just yet as I am still looking for the XOF patches.

I'm hoping the Side Ops will be integrated into THE PHANTOM PAIN as optional missions (preferably in areas of the game you would not normally explore - there's a certain extra thrill in sneaking through unfamiliar territory) with high risk and big rewards.

The iDroid app(Android) distributes rewards directly related to actions in Metal Gear Solid 5:Ground Zeroes. Here are a few of the unlocks I noticed when I opened the app this morning:

To view your rewards, open the Mother Base portion of the app

"You fulfilled certain conditions in Metal Gear Solid 5:Ground Zeroes
Record involved in this completion=> Completion Reward
"
Total Mission Playtime: +5:00.00
Total Missions completed: Armored Vehicle Standard
Total Missions completed: Main Battle Tank
Total Stealth/No-kill completions: Naked Snake
Total Missions played: Shagohod
Total Prisoners Rescued: Ocelot Soldier
Total Knockouts/Tranquilizations/Hold-ups: Gekko

I noticed there are 11 pieces of artwork to unlock via the missions in the Mother Base VR Simulator version 0.91...

Here is another method: It's high risk, and the Marine in the motor pool guard tower must be tranq'd, but I saw a user named 360GameTV S Rank the Classified Intel Acquisition while riding in the water truck[this truck begins its route near the south AA emplacement, heads east over the bridge, then out the exit]. It was difficult to catch the timing of this truck leaving the base as this player completed several tasks before riding out in the truck. He hid behind a barrier and jumped over the side of the truck while it was moving north coming out of the motor pool.

I replayed the mission and got the achievement. The problem was that both of the trucks were being put outside the perimeter of the base. After I kept getting busted, I started over and realised that there is a security camera inside the control tower that you cannot see if you approach it normally. It's angled in such a way that you step straight into its immediate field of vision, tripping the alarm and prompting the security checkpoints. If you reload from the last save point, the trucks get moved to their starting points for the mission. The trick is to take out the camera; no camera means no alert, and no alert means no checkpoints. Even if you reload from the last save point, the trucks can enter the base uninterrupted.

I just S ranked the gun emplacement mission on 1st go , it was so easy, run and gun style and still S rank  I got 47000+ score, no kills, no reflex.
