I'm sending you a PM with the details. Sorry it took a couple of days to get around to this.

Don't worry about how long it took ya. It takes me awhile before I reply to things posted on this site anyway

But I did get your pm and yes it should help me out make the missing 8 secs I need to get the lead over the 300SL...thanks man  👍

I DID IT!!!! YIPPIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

WOOT WOOT!!

got the last car by coming on the outside of the last corner. i had been trying for about a week to crack it and i finally did it (PAL version) and won by 0.194sec. Coming down the straight into the last few corners was my heart pounding! i never thought i'd get so excited by a game but DANG! as soon as i passed the EVO just as i was exiting the Dottinger Hohe i thought i might get it. previous best was off by 6 sec and i would pass the evo halfway down the back straight.

Man was it a good feeling to finish it! and i never looked at this thread, wish i had now. There's alot of good gear on here, especially the BMW guide.

now to do the other 40% of the game...

i dont see what the big deal is with this mission. i only tryed it three times and a beat it.
just drive carefully and dont brake late because the SLR is a heavy old hecter

ooooooor maybe i was just on a good day??
i passed the last car on the final corner. thing is i didnt save the replay or anythink like that so if it is possible i might try and do it agen
:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

just so i can look at my own glory

I hope that I can have the same kind of luck you had and get this mission done and over with and off my chest once and for all...over a yr and no luck

Check Post #40 of this thread for what the big deal is. . .

We of the American continent have a much more difficult version. When you win yours by 12 seconds, you will have run fast enough to beat the NA version.

(I make the assumption you have the PAL version because you're in England. It has an 8-second shorter wait time at the beginning, and the SL is nearly 4 seconds slower than ours.)

And in post 185 i explained it again. I guess there is too many posts in this thread for people to go back a read through. LOL

What it boils down to is... If you have the PAL version, you have to finish the mission in around 9'05.0xx to run fast enough to win with the NTSC version.

Holl01 has run the fastest M34 time i have seen. All i can say is he must have some serious patience. I will never sit through the waiting time for this mission ever again.

i have to say that i have read close to the entire thread and understand that i have too much work ahead of me. the closest ive come is +5.67 sec. and thats the NTSC version...why could i just have bought a PAL system...

heres looking at you who have beat it...congrats

For those of you who haven't beaten this mission ( AKA myself ) I highly recommend, in my opinion, practicing as much as you can in Aracade on the track first with the McLaren using the default tire and increase the ASM/TCS to atleast 10 each to closely resemble the mission and need to get a time of 7'04.xxx to beat the mission ( Note - this is for NTSC-U/C version of the game only, NOT PAL )

Maybe I should take up on my own advise and practice this dang thing in arcade and get a time of 7'05.xxx or less...crossing fingers :nervous:

Yeah, I just bought a SLR and went to the track in the World Circuits to practice without the wait. That helped a bunch, and I've pulled a 7:01, but I can't replicate it in the mission. The developer who put in the two minute wait should be beheaded.

I like a challenge, but this one is kind of ridiculous. Almost as bad as getting that Ruf around the complex circuit during the time trial in GT3.

That was my favourite :sly: (and the GT40 at seattle license test)

Atleast in that you were driving for the whole thing and you didn't have to sit there waiting to start.

I would like to share my hatred for this mission, if I didn't know any better I would say this is THE single handed hardest mission in ANY racecar game. I've raced it about 8-10 times so far and the closest I came was +2.994 seconds (NTSC), immediately after I came +9!
I've yet to practice the SLR I own so maybe I will but maybe I'll continue trying this, I like everyone else hate waiting 126 seconds each time to start and am also in favor of beheading the person in charge of this race. If only it was an even 2 minutes I would have beaten it.
Thanks for everyones input though, maybe one day I'll complete this and achieve 100%.

apologies if anyone has mentioned this before, theres too many pages to read with goddammned DIALUP. okay, after the biggest straight in the track, with a little luck and a little skill, u can just drive straight on at however fast u r going and ride the wall into the last bend. If ur close enuf to the lead car, u can slam him into the wall. It is dirty, nasty and cheap, and i dont endorse such driving, but after countless attempts and the frustration from the wait, for some people ITS WORTH IT!!!!!! Happy Driving!

Supercar_Killer => I so understand your pain with dial-up...you should upgrade to DSL. Way faster and better...Anyway, I've tryed that trick from others who have mentioned it and it don't work for me...if you could draw a map of the apporximate line to take, I can try again but it never works for me, i'm not sure why ??? lack of driving skills I guess...anyway, what works for some doesn't work for others...until next time...

oh man... I did a 9'08.212 today. unfortunately I had a small fight with the 600 and 500, so its kinda dirty, and i'm sure that cost me a second.
Hopefully next time I play I can hit my goal of 9'07 clean... (~sub 9' on PAL)

this mission is quite fun now. :) 👍

stupid SL500... had another go at it today, but that stupid hog is really anoying to pass if you're on a 9'06 pace.
The 65 is almost as bad, but if i'm on pace i can get him clean under braking just after T6.
But the 500 is such a pig and i keep catching him on entry to brunnchen... and its impossible to pass cleanly. So my current best of 9'07.395 is still mired with AI contact.
If I can get by those pricks cleanly I'll have a 9'06, then i'll put up a movie if anyone is interested.

Oh, and here's the times from yesterday and today:

Seriously guys and gals, there is no *trick* to this mission. If you're having problems its only because you don't know the track well enough. There is no replacement for seat time. I had issues with this mission until I did two things:
1 - ran the 24hr event (100% aspec == 200 laps)
2 - ran Dave George's NRS competition (~10 races or about 400 laps of practice with 10 different cars)

Now the ring is a breeze, and this mission is a ton of fun to time-attack.
As has been said several times earlier in this thread, its not about the car.. its about the track. If you know the track inside-and-out; adapting to the car is easy and only takes about 2-3 tries.

I think this mission is not very hard but you need a lot of practice on the track. You just have to drive a round without any mistakes.:sly:

I agree with you about the mission. I only wish I could afford to get the seat time in to get your times. This is all about the track as some of my best times and best races over all have been in such cars as the 61 Jag (lots of fun on the Burg).
BTW - The Meecedes is a blast to drive in the S7 License test where even after getting gold on the test I still went back in just for the fun of it.

I've tried it three times tonight and the closest i've been so far is 11 seconds off the pace. I am playing with the NTSC version as well. Damn hard this is I must say....

Yeah, we NTSC users have it tough. :grumpy:

If I had PAL I would have already beaten this mission. 👎

Me too.... Im over at my friends playing TT right now. Relieving my anger from not being able to beat that stupid mission... TT is awesome. Alot better than I thought it would be actually. I knew it would be good, but I didn't think it would be great! I'll prolly give Mission 34 another couple of tries tomorrow. I just gotta work on the middle section of the track, I got the beginning pretty nailed, but the middle needs work, thats where I lose all my time...

Well on GT mode I've got a well tuned up SLR that I've taken around Nurburgring so I felt I was confident to do fairly decent on this.

Third shot I've managed to get down to 11 secs, thinking back on the lap I can think of places I was a little conservative and cautious so with a little luck I can get this one out the way.

I took a vacation from M34 and decided to go for the 80 Gold licenses. Got that last week! Last night I missed M34 by .636 of a second with a 9:13:018 that included the dumbest 5 second penalty I have ever had and still almost beat it. M34 IS HISTORY AFTER TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first sector time, 3 quarters of the time, is +1:43:000-999 and then after each sector I lose a bit of pace. I still haven't done this one and I'm 91.5% through the game!!!

I am quoting myself here to back up what I stated. M34 IS NOW HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!. Ironically I beat the mission by .636 better than the 300SL last night. I cannot count the number of attempts I had to make to complete this mission. I have only the Formula GT series to complete. With this said, I would like to summarize my M34 experience with the following:

1 PS2 Slim line w/1 DS2 controller $149.00 plus tax

1 Additional DS2 controller $24.99 plus tax

1 Sony 8MB Memory card $24.99 plus tax

1 GT4 PS2 Game CD $49.99 plus tax

1 PS2 Gen.One $129.00 (See my thread on overheating and corrupt game data)

2 Additional 8MB memory cards for backups $39.99

Getting the chance to confront the Polyphony Digital Dev. team for Mission 34 to tell them how ridiculous the 126 second wait is before the start!

Priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

80 Gold last week and M34 this week ========> I am in GT4 heaven!!!!!!

In keeping with the topic of this thread I would like to add some comments on my experience with the mission that might help someone beat it.

1.) Focus on getting better splits all of the time.

2.) Your best split times will not necessarily be your splits in your first winning time.

3.) Once you are consistant getting the 600 in a position to pass you will find that the 500 is actually the true test of the race. Finding good places to pass this car was my key to success.

4.) If you are in a losing lap, race to the end and focus on finishing the lap cleanly and fast from the last checkpoint on. When your heart is racing because you know you are on a good lap and you see that last checkpoint time in the sub 14 second range you need to make sure this point of the lap is nothing but clean and fast!!!!!!!!!!!

5.) There are those who have posted who will say something like "just have fun...". I only saw M34 as an unwanted obstacle to complete the game. Compare M34 to any of the licesne tests you need to pass on the 'Ring" and you will find that those challenges are much more enjoyable becasue they are set up so you can make mistakes, fail, identify your weaknesses, and get right back in to adjust and get better. Mission 34 is some fools idea on how to get off on others people's frustrations. Just beat it, get on with the fun parts of the game and never go back once you do win the mission. If you want a challenge on the ring, go back to the Super License test or practice laps to get your fix on Nurburgring filled.
