Just order the brake mod kit... I've been meaning to do it for a while now after a good review by mcfizzle, but just kept procrastinating. Well, the spring in the TM brake mod snapped today and that was signal enough that I need to try this out! Hopefully I can get the muscle memory remapped quickly.

You Johns still need to work on something to replace the paddle shifter switches... I'm on my 4th replacement switch for the F1 wheel and my base warranty ran out last week. Which leads to a question... if I bought the base 2 years ago, but the F1 wheel only one year ago is the F1 wheel still warranted for it's parts another year?

Cheers, and I'll leave feedback about my experience with the brake mod.

excellent :D I hope to have my new bushings in soon. I was flooded with orders. :P I knew I'd get some sure, but wow....

As for the switches, I plan to take care of that while I am at "work" tomorrow haha! We hope to have something for you soon.

When you have, I will be also intrested in the switches, F1 is eating them :)

Any item has it's own warranty. So the "F1 add-on wheel" has it's warranty, regardless if the wheelbase is older and already out of warranty.

Guys, I literally have my micrometer (well, calipers) with me at work so I can design the switch boards and hopefully get them ordered today. The actually switches themselves have already been found and obtained. :)

Mine haven't died yet, but on one of my wheels it was faulty not long after purchasing it. The new ones should provide lasting peace of mind.

Agreed. :) Switch boards are now designed and I'll be ordering them today.

I need to double check the connectors. Unfortunately, they use different ones on the F1 rim than they do on the base...

True Frank, it's funny how driving an F1 car in the game using a wheel designed for "F1" (supposedly) just kills the switches... in particular the downshift switch as that is used in a rapid fire way with these cars... any fault in the switch is also maddening in these cars even if tolerable in other cars.

It would be fun to estimate the number of shifts we do for one WRS Grand Prix between practice, qualifying and race. It's about 50 shifts per lap at Monaco and at minimum 500 laps if you include everything so between 25K-40K shifts for one GP! Frank, given your practice habits you could be closer to 100K shifts. :scared:

Yup, I'll be a customer if mrbasher make a better switch!

The switches we have picked have either 3 million or 1 million minimum operation life expectancy. The difference between the two is the grams of force required to make it "click" I have both and I need to check them to see which is better.

It's the "nature of the beast" with switches. The more of a "click" they make, the shorter their life-span. Once the boards are in and some switches mounted in the rim, we will know for sure. At least you'll know they'll work! ;p

Wow.....just wow :)
Ordered your brake mod last week and had it just a few days later. Tried it out for the first time this morning and the difference in feel is just fantastic. Couldn't be happier with it now. Took an F10 around Spa before and after changing it and took almost a second off my ghost time on the very first lap with the mod :)

Damn am I the only one who is perfectly happy with the stiffness of the stock wheel??? lol.

No, you are not. Though I only tried the old white bushes Basher offered.
I didn't like the immediate stiff pedal and the short throw those white ones gave. Or maybe I just have little strength in feet and legs.

As you can see, a lot of peeps are very happy. So maybe we are just oddballs. ;)

Not at all :)
I upgraded from a DFGT to the T500RS so the pedals even stock were a massive upgrade for me and I was perfectly happy with them. But for the price and how easy this is to fit I thought it was worth a try.....and the difference in feel of the pedal is wonderfull. With the stock pedals it feels like you press them with no resistance for a bit and then the spring kicks in....with the mod there is a much more natural progression of increasing pressure as you press the brake.

In that case I might give it a go then and see how I'll like it. Won't hurt ;)

As an added incentive, if you purchase the Basherboards T500RS Brake Mod and then later decide to upgrade to the Bodin Solutions BLC-T500 Load Cell Mod, you are eligible for a $10 rebate upon purchase of the BLC-T500.

That provides for a nice, progressive upgrade path, and it also makes upgrading an even better value.

Soo I just realized the dude that I bought this wheel from not only didn't have the diamond plate foot rest, but he also doesn't have the brake mod that is already in the box when you purchase this wheel brand new.
So do you guys think I'm pretty much screwed as far as trying this brake mod out or what? since I saw that I need to have the original brake mod that was already supplied in the box :nervous:

You can order the brake mod bracket from Thrustmaster -- not sure how much it is, but I think it's cheaper than the diamond plate foot rest.

You really need to contact the guy you bought it from to see if he has both lying around somewhere -- if he does, he should mail them to you and pay for the shipping himself.

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like it's $25 shipped from Thrustmaster, per this thread:

If you can't get the bracket from the guy and you end up ordering it because you want to try my mod, please send me a PM here before ordering... ;)

Well I sent him 3 text messages and no replies. Sent two last night, one about an hour ago and no responses so I'm just gonna go ahead and assume he doesn't have them anymore/being a little douch haha

Oh awesome! I'll definitely do that. I'm gonna go ahead and wait until bed time and hope to hear from him. If not then I'm gonna give up on him

OK just let me know. I'll see if I can reduce the "blow" a bit considering you'll have to spend $25 just to try the mod... :) It's not exactly a money maker for me anyhow haha!

Damn you are a super nice guy. Thanks a lot man, about to PM you.

I just received my brake mod kit from mrbasher last night. At first I tried installing two 60 durometer ones, but it was too stiff for my liking. So I went with a single 60 + included foam to hold it in place, and it feels great!

Didn't have much time to thoroughly test it, but since installing it, I decided to try ABS 0 for the first time and WOW!!! The car suddenly feels so alive under braking!

I tried the Subaru BRZ on Monza and Tsukuba just to get a feel for it. Turning ABS off and using the brake mod at the same time is a huge difference, more difficult, but most importantly, more involving. I'm not gonna get into the whole "ABS 1 is for noobs" thing. All I'm saying is that with a stiff brake pedal and ABS 0, there's a whole lot of feel in chassis balance that's suddenly been unlocked. You feel the suspension modelling and weight transfer working more.

It makes braking with ABS seem like there was an invisible hand guiding your braking, where you could just stomp on it and everything will be fine. It's tougher for sure, and I'm nowhere near the lap times I had without the brake mod and ABS 1, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks, mrbasher!!!

Senzr,

I could not have said it better myself!

It's funny you choose the BRZ for testing as it's one of the most squirrelly cars under braking yet provides an excellent example of braking control. It can be frustrating surely, but once you get it right, it's a blast to drive as you can use that looseness to your advantage and really throw the car around.

As for your lap times, don't worry, you'll get there. In cars that aren't so touchy, your times will probably have gone down already.

Thanks for reporting your results and for the mini review. As always, I love hearing from folks about their experiences.

I forgot to mention that going ABS 0 absolutely requires fiddling with brake balance settings. I dug up some of the ABS 0 threads and started with 4-2 brake bias front to rear, and went from there.

The BRZ seemed to respond well to 4-2 bias, and it's easy to modulate braking strength with the stiff pedal. I'm lovin' how braking can now be used to rotate and adjust the chassis balance. It's one more thing to worry about in terms of controlling the car, but the extra dimension it brings to the experience is awesome.

Fun!

Just order a set in preparation for GT Academy and GT6. Currently have a set of 73's and 78's but wanted more options.

I'm sure someone on here has a spare Nobel Peace prize award they could give mrbasherman and if that's the case don't hesitate (:

This brake mod is fantastic and if one is thinking of modifying their brake they should look no further than this.

I got mine today, installed them with ease and was quickly up and driving. I used a mixture of the Blue/purple and red ones. I thought it will take a while getting used to but that was far from the case.

This mod in place allowed me to win on SS Route track of the recent FR 500PP Seasonal Event that I was sweating over. This is sure to give you back the seconds you were losing on the unmodified brake.

I can't believe you've read to this point, when you could of placed your order already (:
