Thanks for all the vids, pics and reviews guys đź‘Ť

Here you can find another, non informative, one : OXM online - 9/10 (little info about MP)

Hmm ranked, unranked and king of the hill......interviews state you can select track and number of laps plus there an option to restrict the type of players precision or agresive. also you can take your custom cars online so there must be a car restriction option also. I would also take it unranked matches allow you to invite friends. Again details, just saying there "minimal in options" dosn't realy give you any info as to what the reviewer considers minimal?

Oh no, limited online means I have to dust of SCC..........

Hold that!

jjaisli please don't speak to strange men on stranger forums! the quote was "Online is limited" that was the whole statement by someone who joined that forum 3 days ago and has posted 9 posts! he dosn't state why it's "limited" or what makes it limited, he's then replied to by a member who has a year on that forum and 3284 posts to his name who obviously has been on the game but is limited in what he can say for legal reasons, the replie is not adsactly confirmation of the 1s't posters statement, quite the oposite.

SCC back in cupboard, dust intact!

Another edit, heres ANOTHER person who can't drive! but the first part of the video shows the tuning and car modding to a certain degree, worth a look, theres more in there than I thought there would be!

If i'm honest, the car handling looks very average, marginally better than in Grid if you go on that video. I'll definitely try the demo though, even if it means waiting a couple of weeks until after the game is released - I'm not exactly in a hurry to rush out and buy this.

Seems the worm has turned and going of the past couple of pages people have split opinions on Shift now. Well the review scores are looking good and I think this game will sell well and have a large folowing. But saying this until the game is released and the general public get to play it there will be an unknown factor about the game, this is of course slightly adsadurated due to the title in question, past NFS games have not been recived well and later titles have been going down hill so to speak. and then of course theres EA's conection to the game which is akin to buying a game from the devil in certain circles LOL
I expect there will be a hugely opinionated discusion now that the title is only a week away which hopefully dosn't lead to riots on the streets and spontanious combustion of members (Save it for pre GT5 release) I've been drawn into discusions based on opinion tonight which I find a little pointless but enjoyable but ultimatly dosn't add anything to the subject. I'll bow out now unless jjaisill wishes to continue his discussion about the RX8 wheel nuts on shift which he PM'd me about before (there are 6 I have one!) LOL anyway, if I spot any vids I'll stick em up and please keep the review links coming, have we got any PS3 reviews yet or are they all 360 ones?

SHIFT seems to be trying to appeal to a whole spectrum of race fans, from arcade to sim. I think that's what makes getting a handle on this game so difficult. The question is, are they going to be successful at giving SHIFT general appeal to the casual gamer, while still having sim physics available to those more interested in that aspect? The videos are confusing, but that could be because they are showing different physics models within the game.

Here's better translation whicg I think you might prefer

No, I prefer the "waxing"! ;)

That's why I think die hard fans of a particular series (the kind that ONLY play it and think everything else is rubbish) do miss a lot and have great difficulty to appreciate "other" games for what they offer.

That's the problem with GT - fans of the game have come to consider it the gold standard & look down on anything that presents a different approach. However, "there's more than one way to skin a cat" (whatever that means!), & I think all these games are only providing an attempt at re-creating real word physics within a gaming context - they are not providing actual real world physics.

For info only quote from an interview with NFS dev Andy Tudor on the 7/9/09 , link to full info at the bottom.

(Q) After an online race will you be able to stay with the same drivers or will you get matched with another group?

[After an online race] the group returns to the Lobby where the Host may change the criteria for the next event including the racing class.

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/299032.page

Also here's a quote from ian bell, the full interview can be found on page 65 of this thread.

I'm interested in whether or not you'll be able to set your own race distance parameters, I find the 3-6 lap races unsatisfactory. I'd really like to be racing for at least 30 minutes per race and more if possible.

IB: How about 20 laps of the Green Hell against a full grid of your best mates? I think you'll be sufficiently sweaty and sore at the end of that run.

Final quote from alex steffan page 68 (this has been confirmed in numerous video interviews)

]As far as i know, you earn "Precision-Points" and "Aggression-Points". And i once read that you will be judged by these points and as an online-option a host can lock his lobby for aggressive drivers. If they really do it like this, it would be a fantastic option i think.

From these 3 quotes I read it as you can have private lobbys with your mates where the host can change race criteria between the races which includes racing class (car class?) laps (max 20) and the track. or host open rooms with the restriction of precision or agresive drivers only.

But you conclusion that GTR evo is arcadey cause of AI doesn't say much either except LOL DUDE. Neither GT nor Forza are at the same level to GTR, or GTL simulation.

So I was disappointed by Race Pro, which is due to fellow PC gamers is exactly same as GTR Evolution.

Because:

1) At least 90% cars do nothing but understeer and spin free, if you stay away from the grass you just can't lose control. Very easy to drive, much easier than Forza or GT5 Prologue.

2) Damage and collision physics are almost nonexistent. The best way to pass the turn - smash the car on forward AI, very effective "braking".

3) Tracks don't look too precise, Laguna Seca for example is same wide as highway.

So it's far from exciting to drive 9 boring rock stable cars just to get one with some fan.

The review from Gamereactor only mentioned GTLegends and GTR2. GTR Evo was nowhere in the review. Why? Because, first of all, it has no bearing to SHIFT at all. As I've said earlier, GTR Evo was developed by Simbin (as was Race Pro, hence the similarities). Slightly Mad Studios (which happened to consist of the core team that was responsible for GTL and GTR2) has nothing to do with GTR Evo. While GTR2 is based on the ISI engine, Evo and Race Pro is based on Simbin's own Lizard Engine. I don't think I can't be any clearer than that.

Here's SHIFT version of Laguna Seca compared to the laser-scanned iRacing- https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3532847&postcount=1412

the game plays awesome. the handling is excellent. driving without aids provides plenty of input from the player -- satisfying, for you sim junkies. Even with some aids on, it fools you into feeling like you're in a sim, excellent sounds and visual effects. The tires sound unlike anything you have ever heard. so far, I think its awesome

edit: played on xbox360 w/ MS wheel

also, do yourself a favor and select "lite" in the HUD options menu. much, much better.

Thats good to here. I plan on picking it up next week, I'm very happy to see REPLAYs after being non existent in the last 4 NFS's.

I got mine today ,,

The game is wow !

so far i really like it !!

I didnt expect that it will be like this lool !! specially with the steering wheel !

Review from IGN

He says it doesn't feel as simulator-ish as Gran Turismo or Forza. It feels like the perfect mix of sim and arcade. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of GRiD. Quite possibly the best NFS ever, he says.

Yet again we see a vid of someone who can't drive to save there life and every single driving aid blinking on the bottom right:ouch:

That's an interesting video. Looks like he's only using ABS. Nice to see that when he makes mistakes in braking or lines it's obviously costing him time and unsettling the car but it's not immediate snap->wall->death. As that's probably a medium to low level car for the game that feels about right, and I'd expect the Zondas/Veyrons/etc to be much less forgiving. I mean, in real life you screw up at those speeds and you're probably gonna crash regardless of the car, but in a game there has to be some consideration given to the fun factor I guess.

I am actually getting quite interested in this game, at first I was wary since the quality of the last few NFS has been rather lacking but this is looking quite promising indeed.

The only thing I am worried about is the fact that it is being compared to GRID. Personally, I found GRID to be an absolutely abominable game and a waste of my money. Luckily I could return it but I really don't want to buy this game and just have a GRID replica.

Thankfully, the credentials of the developers (GTR and GTR2) is enough to make me slightly hopeful.

From observations: It seems like if you set assists on, it will act a little arcade like. The IGN review is using assists and probably that's why it feels in between. There are a few people who have the game early and are playing it in pro mode, with assists off. Some people have written impressions, not many. Probably playing the game instead =P

I will definitely be picking up Shift on Tuesday đź‘Ť Can't wait to see how it drives with the Fanatec wheel in pro mode :) Anyways, I'll give you guys a review next week.

The oversteer i think is a bit too much exaggerated.

I suggest that if you haven't already you take a look at the thread about the people who have already got the game as their opinions of the game suggest it is going to be very good.
