Hi guys, welcome to week 8 of the driving skill competition. This is the new weekly competition where driving skill is everything. Each week a stock car and track is chosen the car CANNOT be tuned or modified in anyway as to give an advantage over others.

This week is Maserati Gran Turismo at deep forest and tyre choice is SPORTS HARD. All aids are to be turned off except ABS on 1. Transmission and grip choice (low/real) is down to you.

The car must be accessed via ARCADE MODE!

Brake balance can only be adjusted if you are driving with ABS off, if you are using ABS on 1 you must keep the default brake balance.

This is an offline competition and you can do anytime, just choose the car through arcade mode then select the track. Everybody Is free to enter.

Please send in your best lap time stating whether you used ds3 or wheel (lap must not have gone red).

Its time to show your skill and race! Good luck everyone thanks for the support! Any questions just PM me and i'll get back to you ASAP! Enjoy!

When sending your times in please could you use the following format:

Driver: GTP name/PSN name
Time:
Transmission: Auto/Manual (if manual state whether clutch used)
Controller: DS3/wheel
ABS:
Brake Balance: Front/Rear (only applicable if ABS is off)

Also please state your updated time in a new post, do not simply edit a previous one.

The Week 8 leaderboard will be up later in the week!

I will also consider allowing previous competitors the ability to add their own times to the leaderboard to save time.

After the huge success of the previous weeks it would be great to get as many people racing this week. So get out on that track and have fun!

Also if this isn't enough of a challenge to satisfy your gt5 needs head over to the sister competition of the weekly driving skill competition (WDSC) which is called fortnightly driving skill competition and can be found under the 'spot races and time trials' section of the forums. The FDSC runs alongside the WDSC.

Might be a good idea to make things clear about driving to the GTP OLR in the first post so the moderators are happy, a "clean" non-red lap here could quite easily be against the OLR which we have to follow in order for the contest to be aranged here. It's very easy to drive with all four wheels off the track at Deep Forest and not turn the lap red, and that's not just using the concrete section before the first tunnel.

There are lots of places you can run wide where at other tracks the lap would go red instantly , the last corner at Fuji for example.

Fully prepared to be proven wrong with some crazy laps :) but I reckon 1:24s are possible. I'd be really happy with mid 1:25, I don't think I can do much more with the DS3.

I have alot of time left in me. This car feels purpose built for this track, excellent choice.

I tried updating the leader board from my phone but to no avail. I'll hop on my computer later.

Clean lap, no cutting. I guess I might get my time down to 1:26 :)

Maybe 3 or 4 tenths more for me, at the limit already I think, it all rests on that tricky last high speed left hander!

Well, if they hadn't forced these competitions away from the main GT5 board, that wouldn't be an issue.

Also, the competitions wouldn't have died almost completely, within less than a week.

But it's an offline competition.. Hmm.

Yeah...

Anyway, I finally got a moment to sit down to give this a try.

I can get up by over a second on my ghost, but keep blowing it on the last corner. Luckily, this week, I should have lots of time to give this a real try.

You should still put it in the GT5 section LMP787B - Its dead in here!

Its not an online competition and it was perfectly fine where it was for 6 weeks!

Who's the mod that moved it? We should PM him, it would be a shame if the only thing worth coming to GTPlanet for, was to stop because no one knows where it is!

I agree entirely with this.

Also, I've used the report post function, to notify the mods that this thread (and the others) are in the wrong forum.

The problem is mainly that not enough people check this section of the forums, rather than it not being the right area. If these events were allowed in the main section, then it seems likely that the main section would get cluttered up with similar threads. And it seems a little bit unfair to the other "proper" online competitions that this one would get higher exposure than them.

So if participation is down here, the real question might be how to get more people to look in this area? I'm sure the other online races and competitions would love there to be more traffic as well.

I did run this week's combo for a little while and ran a high :28 with a tiny cut at the bottom of the big hill, but I don't have the exact time on me and I expect to beat it, so I'll not worry about posting it yet. Got the second attempt at Suzuka 1000 to do today and I've just wasted a full hour on GTP, so I better get to it.

Agree with other comments about it beeing hidden away in this section, took me a while to find it! It was perfectly fine where it was, seems we should bombard the mod responsible with pm's till its returned to its rightful home.

I think it's worth discussing with the mods if everybody feels like this and the amount of interest we have lost due to this location. I don't think we should 'bombard' them though, if we voice our opinion in a sensible manner, and there is several of us, then perhaps they may listen to us.

Lap was clean according to the OLR.
Yep, 24s are doable, I left about .2-3 on that lap alone in T1 and T3.

Nice time! Hopefully I can have a chance to run this weeks event!

Its nice to see people trying to find the event, it shows their commitment and it makes this competition worthwhile, even if it is in this section of the forums.

I can't get more than 1 good sector in a lap.
The wheel made T1 easier and I still left .2 in T1 (My line was crazy conservative), .1 in T2 and .15 in T3.
Just need more good sectors in my laps.

Thank you :)
Hope so too, it´s a great event. Hope you are able to set a time on this one and the FDSC. It´s great fun. You have to try to beat me :sly:

Edit:
@ carracerpt: great time 👍

Another good car I would not normally use. Really well balanced, no big understeer and surprisingly agile for a heavy car. Long gearing being slightly frustrating for this track is the only negative. That and with surround sound the exhaust behind your head sounds a bit like South American pan pipes.

Good luck with getting the threads moved.👍

Are you the Ray I raced online a couple times?
And nice time 👍
Can I ask what your T1 and T2 times were? If you remember?
