To be fair, they said tire wear wasn't modeled. How did that turn out?

They also claimed speed blur was exclusive to the helmet cam this time around. How did that turn out?

I'm not saying there will be a demo but I am they've contradicted themselves at least twice now. At least.

someone know what track is this?

Yes I know that track I used to race there in my bike and let me tell you right now that the track is too wide - IRL it only fits two bikes side by side and in that shoot you can see at least two cars, Im not buying it anymore :dopey::dopey::dopey:

Yeah, there shouldn't be enough room for a single car, wth SMS?!

I don't think SMS is bothered with modelling tracks 100% true to life.
When I look at the Zolder pic I can recognize it, but the track surroundings don't look like the track surroundings in real life.

The height of the curbs in that chicane looks a bit off as well.

But hey, you know you aren't buying a full blown simulation when you buy this game, as it's main goal is to deliver an enjoyable racing game.

That's probably the best way to look at it. A decent amount of realism would basically be 'icing on the top'. I'm expecting at least a wee bit of icing, though :D

Until we get proper replay cam shots, I don't think ANY of us are capable of deciding track width definitively. Tracks look a LOT wider in GT5 in any of the in car cameras than they do on replay. Those are the ONLY shots of car and track that don't use wide angle FOV's.

I'm not saying the courses ARE or are NOT wider. At least, not until I see those...

The "follow cam" could be useful when tuning the car, expecially suspension, you will immediately recon if the car is too high or too low, if suspension work properly or not. I use it for check these things with no need to waste time watching the replay.

Not a big fan of it, myself. Too 'floaty'. I'm never sure what I'm seeing is as a result of the camera or the car moving (plus it always seems to emphasize that car 'pivoting' effect).

Shift used to 'glitch' in replay every now and again, and get stuck in one 'view' from replay camera rather than switching shots all the time. Now and again, it turned out to be VERY useful for watching the suspension, but you couldn't do it all the time.

I hope S2U's replay options are improved...

The following from the AUP:
•You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack any individual or any group.

I would advise all of you to keep this in mind next time you're posting. The derogatory emails & replies have been removed.

well done....some people forget themselves. This is a car game we're talking about here :)

Meh, I don't know these tracks very well and could care less if they are not modeled 100% accurately, I just want to run them. The only problem I'm concerned with is just how slidey the cars are going to be. Some of the videos make it look not promising and others look good or at least good enough. I think either way the actually racing experience will be a lot more fun than that of GT5 to me. I love GT5's physics but the only time the game gets exciting is when you're going WOT around the ring trying to keep it on the road, everything else just feels bland.

I have been following shift 2 since it was announced. I have talking about it on other other racing league sites, but cant gain enough interest. I was wondering if anybody wants to start a league or race in a league, Gt1 or 3. I think it can be pretty fun, cause i think shift two will have a better racing factor then gt5.

That (maybe stock) Aston Martin with that livrery is stunning! 👍 I hope they add it in the game, a kind of "Accademy Car". EA Accademy Come on! :D

^ well he said that with assist on is like shift 1 while with assist off feels like a different game. Good.

Sounds good.
I don't like the embargo situation. History warns me off bad things.

He played with a pad though, no wheel.

I can't believe that any serious driver would try to drive a car from follow cam...

Who ARE these wallies?

You know what... if SMS wanted to REALLY persuade us they were taking 'sim' seriously, they would DROP follow cam completely. At least in race. It makes ANY game look arcade...

What's the phrase again? "I want to believe". Realism wise, racing games are moving in the right direction: the looks are there already, the handling is ever improving and the AI, well, is probably much harder to tweak than we'd like, but at least some devs are trying their best to keep us entertained. With all its flaws, I still liked Shift a lot so S2U should make me happy.

Oh, and in the Silverstone video, he says he takes a Veyron out on Brands Hatch.

Jeez, he just drove an AM at Silverstone (in the dark!). You'd think he MIGHT like to compare the real thing to the game. But nooooooo.....!

A Veyron! S'funny... he LOOKS older than twelve!

I can't believe that any serious driver would try to drive a car from follow cam...

It's how I used to drive in GT4 since there was no cockpit cam. I'll tell you why: I was so impressed with how the cars looked that half the pleasure I drew from playing came from watching them from behind. And it helped me master tracks I didn't know so well. Still, I considered myself a serious driver. Everyone has their favourite way to drive in games. I think you and others enjoy the hood cam but nothing beats the cockpit (and helmet) cam in my opinion. It's all a matter of personal preference and with all due respect, I don't think it's enough to put a label on anyone.

If you have a good pc go for pc version without any doubt.

But I'd check those 'Recommended specs' and take them VERY seriously. Shift 1 wasn't without issues even on PC's that fell within the guidelines. If you are proficient at tweaking a PC for best game performance, if you regularly keep track of the latest info re. drivers and other issues, then yes, the PC version is your best bet.

But if you are something of a tyro in this department, you might find the simplicity of playing on a console more to your liking.

Also, be aware that there is NO cross platform racing, so if number of potential racers comes into it, bear that in mind. PS3 and XBox are likely to outsell the PC version by quite a margin.

Little things like that are there to appeal to the common man and make them buy the game, so that they make enough money to justify producing something remotely sim-ish. It's totally there for the drivers who AREN'T serious, and that's fine.

Besides, there's nothing to say that you can't drive just as fast from the follow cam. Nobody I know does it, but options are never bad. I'd love it if some game added in a top down style camera than zoomed out as you went faster and you could have two cars on the same screen. Like the old Micro Machines games. Terrible for realism, but hilarious fun when you're on your 5th beer and have some mates over.

I personally can't stand in-car cams because they're a mere imitation of driving a real car. Too restrictive, no real sense of space because the A-pillar isn't physically there and unable to gauge grip from the seat of your pants.

To me it smacks of an elitist/graphic junkies view with little real merit other than wowing the player or making the play think they're hardcore because they play 'inside' a car.

The more I think about it more I find this Helmet cam stupid!

It's like to drive a car with someone else seeing in your place and taking apex for you... I'm sure after a moment, it must induce some sort of headache because your brain is trying all the time to match your driving with the movement of the helmet cam who act on its own....

They should have done it differently with a good trackir implementation where the shaking and vibration are still here but it's you who are in control of your vision not the game.
