PS3 version it's going to be 30fps, If someone have a new pc for gaming could play Shift 2 at 60 fps and the difference is huge, hands down. Pc world it's not too complicated, it's all about money :) Updating your hardware almost every year. I will buy it for PS3 because my laptop probably isn't fast enough to run this new game at 60fps.

I think all racing games should have at least 4 racing views:
  1. Bumper cam: When you want to see the road ahead without any distractions but you can't be sure where the edges of the car are in relation to other cars...
  2. Hood cam: Like Shift 1. Easier to judge where your car is placed on the track, great visibility and correct sense of speed.
  3. Cockpit view: Greatest immersion! Car modeling is not complete without an interior view! Also when a developer implements a cockpit view you know that they want to make a realistic or semi-realistic game. If there is not a cockpit view for all cars then the game most probably will be sloppy and rushed... ;)
  4. Chase cam/behind-the-car view: Sometimes you just want to admire the modeling/shaders/reflections of the virtual cars from all sides. :)

For example NFS1-NFS5 on PC had the above views. Well, NFS1-NFS4 lacked the hood cam but all had cockpit view, 2D for NFS1-NFS3 and 3D NFS4-5. And I had a great time with all these games! :)

Since NFS6 they dropped the cockpit view. I tried it and I found it awful together with the following NFSs. I think that dropping the cockpit view was a pivotal point to the NFS franchise. The old games were realistic/semi-realistic (NFS1,5) or realistic-arcade (NFS2,3,4) and all had a rewarding handling model with a wheel. Since NFS6 they became completely arcade, it was impossible to use them with a wheel, and the cars didn't even remotely behave like cars!

In Shift 1 the cockpit view returned and it was an amazing game! Need for Speed was back and better that ever!! :D

Also, the Grand Prix Series, RAC Rally Series, TOCA series (with the exception of Grid :yuck:), GP Legends (and other Papyrus games), Colin McRae Series, WRC Series on PS2, Richard Burns Rally, all had cockpit views and all were great games! Also LFS, iRacing, rFactor, GTR Series, nkPro, which are considered some of the best sim-games right now, all have cockpit view.

I only buy driving games with a cockpit view. I made an exception for GT3 (which I found lacking, I bought GT4 dirt-cheap and I am glad I didn't pay full price) and GT5. I should have known better... not all cars in GT5 have cockpit view and I find GT5 to be a sloppy, sterile racing driving game grind game (although sometimes it doesn't feel like it) and I think I should have waited to buy it cheaper. Coincidence?... :)

Until I can afford a full three monitor system, cockpit cam is out. I can see BOTH sides of my car from the seat, even with a helmet on. And only TINY movements of my head and eyes to further that. I can't believe anyone gets 'immersed' in a view that is like racing the Kentucky Derby... AS THE HORSE!

Hood cam (I hate GT5's 'invisible car cam') presents the MOST 'realistic' view of driving if seeing the track and other cars is your main concern. I must admit, when going full blast, who has TIME to admire the dashboard, the instrument console, the stitching on the leather of the gear shift knob?

Do you know how BIG a TV you need before the tiny window in cockpit cam approaches real size? Over a 70" HDTV. I can't afford that, can you? But even a 47-52" TV in hood cam is starting to get close to a full windshield's size. A LOT closer than cockpit view.

I always get the impression of 'Honey, I shrank the car!' when sitting in cockpit view. Sit about 3 ft. away from a 47", in hood cam, and I get the impression I am looking OUT to the track, not INTO a little toy car.

Anyway, there are TWO 'cockpit cams' in S2U, so at least you HAVE a choice. AND they exist for ALL the cars.

My guess is that with helmet cam its only matter of time untill its really well done with a real ps3 camera that registers you headmove. So GT5, watch out!

I can't believe that any serious driver would try to drive a car from follow cam...

Who ARE these wallies?

You know what... if SMS wanted to REALLY persuade us they were taking 'sim' seriously, they would DROP follow cam completely. At least in race. It makes ANY game look arcade...

Dude get over yourself games are about choice if you want the hardcore sim experience then dont use that cam thats how i do it and thats how most people do it get over yourself

I agree that cockpit view is dependent on your screen's diagonal. My TV's big and I play very close to it, about a metre far. I'm immersed. But it's also because games like GT5 and Shift have great cockpit views that let you see the track and your rivals. When I play Dirt or Grid, I much prefer the hood cam. From what I saw, S2U offers exactly what I expect from a cockpit view. You don't see everything inside a real car either, especially at high speeds, and in races danger lurks everywhere. I like to play with this feeling of not being able to control every bit of my environment because it forces you to rely both on your knowledge and instinct, and also on your good star. Taking on Eau Rouge in cockpit view and with the hood cam is totally different to me. But I understand other views have their advantages too.

Seriously, dude, you are on the wrong forum! The vast majority of posts on this and GT5's forums are from 'serious' players NOT out for an arcade experience. Now, maybe it's true that, in fact, most people DO play the game from follow cam (that would explain a lot of the driving!) and don't care in the slightest about the realism, but you have to admit that, at least in S2U's case, they are TRYING to break into the 'serious' 'semi-sim' genre of titles like FM3 and GT5.

And showcasing the game before release in follow cam isn't doing a DAMN thing to avoid the 'arcade' label it is getting plastered with from other 'semi-sim' game players. In S2U's case, in particular, EA already HAVE an arcade driving game out, no doubt played in follow cam primarily. So S2U doesn't honestly NEED to take that view seriously. It might even bolster their position in the genre if they DON'T pander to the arcade players. It might hurt sales a bit, but EA have HP for them to play, and S2U needs to undo some of the damage inflicted (whether fairly or not) by Shift's more arcade leanings.

But any poll I've seen of GT5's players preferred driving view always has follow cam FAR down the list. Perhaps you don't have as much company as you think you do, at least in these 'semi-sim' games?

Well, the chase cam should (in my opinion) be implemented in the game, but I think Destinkeys got it right, showcasing the game like that isn't going to help with the 'arcade'-stigma that's on S2U's back...

Meh, I'd prefer to see a full replay at this point. Would make judging a lot of stuff easier.

Once the game will be delivered there will be no more "arcade stigmas" as you call it, we will see the truth, not depending on the camera. Just need to wait 2 more weeks. It's not because of the pics showing chase cam that a game get classified arcade, sim, or simcade eventually.

I've been invited to the Shift 2 "Community Day" at EA's UK headquarters, and 'll have a lot of time with the developers and the game in the next few days. I'll be blogging about this soon but wanted to give you guys a heads up here in the forums. If there's anything specific you'd like me to ask or tell them, let me know!

That's great !!! Could you ask them if there is any possibility to include the LeMans Course? Maybe via DLC.

If you could ask how the photomode is setup(How they will be uploaded, various in game options like exposure and various filters), that would be great.

Have a good time.👍

Ask if there's going to be any more open-wheel cars in the game throughout it's lifetime. 👍

Le Mans, Sebring, San Luis and Le Castellet would be great additions to an already fantastic selection. Do they intend to do big DLCs (tracks/cars) and patches after release?

Great news...👍
Im really looking foward to this game... but there is something thats been troubling me a bit...:dunce:
They said in an interview that there would be no pit stops but in another interview they said that there will be tyre wear and online races up to 99 laps... so I was woundering How will they implement the tyre wear without pitstops?

Theres a lot of other stuff Id like to ask also but I guess one question per user is fair enough:sly: so If you could clear this one for meI would really appreciate it very much.

I was going to embed the new video at gametrailers, but apparently I don't know how. It displays the telemetry and simulation of each individual tire. I'm sure someone will get it up here...

Cool! If you could about the physics, if it's going to be something comparable to PC sims. And I would like to know something about frame rate for PS3, if it's going to keep 30fps or some frame drops could happen. I know they could be intimidated by these kind of questions but these are the most important things. Thanks!

Will Shift ever include cars from other racing disciplines- Le Mans prototypes, open wheel (F1, Indy, etc), NASCAR, WRC, Daytona prototypes, etc? It would be awesome to have even a small selection of past and present versions of these cars and really expand the game's appeal and credibility in my opinion.

I second this. In addition, please let them know we'd like pitstops, fuel consumption, and tire wear in the next shift.

Thanks!

Hey if you remember could you ask if the future dlc would be coming to pc as well as the console versions, I think everything else I want to know is going to be revealed in the next couple of weeks.

Jeez, that is a helluva nice Neo Geo collection in the background there.
Oh and the Shift 2 interview wasn't bad either, if it was true. I'll have to watch it again later on.

  • Any chance to see LAN play, multi-screen or 60fps in the feature?
  • Details about Ferrari licensing issues?
  • MyNFS has been down for weeks or even months. It's required to download photos of Shift 1 because they can't be saved locally (PS3, 360).

One thing I'd really like to know about is the force feedback. If you could, would you please get them to jump off on improvements to that for a bit? Hearing anything about wheel support would be nice, but especially about the FFB.

Shift 1's wheel experience let me down so badly that I can't even comment on its physics to this day. It felt like my G25 just wasn't working properly, even with it being officially supported and having a extensive adjustments to play with. It was the odd periods where it just seemed to be limp that most bothered me.

Skip to 11:33 - Im a bit worried now - he says he didnt feel much difference in handling/physics from Shift 1 :scared::scared::scared:

He said that about driving with all assists "ON" and "easy" physics. He then says that when he turned the "elite" physics on it was much better.
