Single Player, I haven't tried online since I'm running the Overhaul Mod - I figured the online servers would kick me for running modified files?

Right, I didn't think about the Mod thing, I'm on PS3. Does the Mod affect the AI as well as the physics? Is there a way to get online with other Mod users exclusively? I couldn't stand not playing real players for very long. (double negative I know:yuck:)

With all the hype, i expect it to be.
Same hype as with the last game.
Same review scores.
Same demos on the pad.

There shouldn't have been any wheel issues left when SRT tried to do their hands on last month, and even worse the recent community invite. Now we have folks online trying as hard as they can to tell us that the wheel handling is still bad without actually coming right out and saying it. I'm also still looking forward one crucial hands-on opinion, which I'm guessing might not out there for diplomatic reasons. There's a lot printed between the lines on this one, even if I'm reading a bit too much into some of it.

:indiff:

I preordered anyway though. Probably wouldn't have if GT5 were much good, or if I had a 360 setup for Forza. ...But it wasn't and I don't.
At the very least I can look forward to painting cars. I enjoyed that quite a bit in modnation racers.

I don't think ANY of us would be here discussing this if GT5 were any good... as a racing game, that is.

If I want to 'drive', I can step outside my front door and go do that! I only get these things so I can RACE! I don't understand how PD can miss this.

I think you have hit the Nail on the Head there, i used to enjoy the GT series, but Gt5 was an utter bore fest. From my point of view, i enjoyed Shift far more better, i found Shift a challenge and a very good one at that.

Really looking forward to Shift 2. 👍

In Porsche gameplay in Nurburgring, the wheel wiggle because I'm playing with pad. Next, short gameplay with Lexus LFA. And last gameplay en Nordscheiffe driving using wheel control.
Good balance playing with pad. Good work!!

Yes,,,I have final version of this game. Retro events are nice.

It's simply ridiculous one of the biggest problems in GT5 is just a damn value. In pc you can adjust the AI speed with just a simple slide. The AI is too slow? No problem, increase the value.. that's it. Go have some fun and TRY to beat them now. In GT5 people are emocrying and getting mad because of this weak AI. It's a no sense move by devs. I like the way PD makes the cars handle but of course they created one of the most "user unfriendly" games ever, to have some fun I need to remove 100hp from my SLS, 458 or whatever... instead of tuning, I'm detuning my cars -.- People get bored early in this way.

Nice Damage model (so it seems) but theres one thing thats been bothering me and we can see it in that video - why are the breaks always glowing? is it supose to be that way IRL. I thought that they glowed when breaking hard and a few tenths of a second after... but in that video and in others they keep glowing for more than just a few seconds (more than 10 seconds in that video with the cars stopped)....

I just want to thank you for continuing to take the time upload new videos for us. It really makes these last few days while we wait for the release easier and it gives us all something to talk/argue about.

And that damage in the latest video. OMG. Car goes sideways off road, tyres dig in, car rolls and is destroyed. Brilliant. Exactly the results you want from that sort of accident, and it looks freaking awesome. I love it.

Regarding brake rotors, they glow for a lot longer than you think.

Of course, in broad daylight they probably wouldn't actually be visible for that long. But I suspect that's a bit of an artifact of their lighting system, in the same way that you can see the brake lights reflecting strongly off the road even in the daylight. Not perfect, but it could be worse.

I'd like to nominate a new event type. You must keep your brake rotors glowing the entire way around a circuit to win. :P

It affects the AI (actually this is currently the bane of my existence, trying to re-work the car performance ratings and upgrade performance rating changes to how well the AI now drives them :)). Online - it can get annoying to run mods. The best bet is to run it over the LAN play option with Tunngle or Hamachi with someone you know and set it up in advance. There is no file CRC checking involved, however, if the lobby host calls a file nobody else has (eg. you have the DLC cars and the other guys don't), it will boot anyone without those same filenames.

I completely agree that the single player game in GT5 gets boring quick. I can also admit that the only reason I completed it was to build up a collection of cars to drive and race online. If you can find a handful of good people to race with online, that is where the real fun is in GT5. Human opponents will always be better than computer AI, no questions asked.

I also agree that the AI is complete rubbish in GT5, and wish they'd put out a patch improving it or giving options to turn up the difficulty without having to "de-tune" cars.

I've got a close eye on Shift 2, and plan on giving it a fair chance (as I do with any racing game). But the physics need to be improved 10 fold over the first one to keep me playing it. It can have the best AI in the world, but if the handling doesn't feel right, it just ruins the game for me. Will that prevent me from enjoying a good game? Maybe. But if the floaty physics from Shift 1 aren't completely gone, I'll stick to racing online with GT5 till some of the other upcoming titles are released.

Lol nice vid. they actually exploded in the end :D

I'm confused about how the "VIP" thing will work in this game, with the bonuses from the other games.
I have Shift and have a save from Hot Pursuit from when I rented it, I was wondering if it was going to be an automatic thing or if I had to do something strange like you so often do with EAs games.

But have you ever log on online with those games on the EA site?

I know that with Shift 1 I logged on to EA I even redeemed a few car codes so Im ok for the 20 000$ credit boost :D

Yeah I have a log in for EA but I was never able to succesfully link my PSN to my EA Account and thusly use the MYNFS thing on their site, and at the moment, I cant even get onto the MYNFS site.

In their live Q&A, I believe they talked about adjusting tracks based on driver feedback. 'This hill feels like it should be higher' kind of stuff.

Unless I misheard.

No you didn't hear wrong. I saw this too. To all you all wanting accurate tracks and nothing more, I have one thing to say. Don't buy the game. If you already know of this (considering you currently play the game and played it every night before its released) and you get the game anyways, your going to be those same people that unfairly rate the game. This forum and SMS don't need your input. Don't even bother spending your money. Continue racing the game you currently have.

Here are some videos i found.

I really hope that is body parts of some sort dragging under braking? Those tires sounded horrid in the braking zone, the Monza video in "Elite mode".

look at the crash ahaha insane flip. However clearly with the pad.

So much cool stuff in that video.

-Coming into the first corner, the car in front chucks a bit of rubber or something up and it bounces off the bonnet.
-The spin after the pit maneuver looks perfect.
-How the AI casually taps the player on the way back past after the spin. It may be random, but I'm figuring it's revenge for the spin. :)
-The crash, obviously.
-The fact that not only is the mirror trying to escape, the indicator stalks are too. :P

I figured the mirror thing out. It's just that the oscillation is too slow. If they were vibrating quickly, it'd look OK. Plausible at least, there's plenty of high frequency stuff going on in a car, but not much that makes stuff wobble slowly like that. As it is they look like they're attached with jelly.

Sweet! You see, if you can't do crashes right or even decent don't do them at all. Better off concentrating on other things instead of wasting time doing a half-a$$ed job. Hey Kaz and Dan, pay attention.

How on earth do you create a racing game with no crashes?

Are you suggesting ghosting, would you prefer that?

Just about to pre-order this from game website and notice they have some sort of review up, and mention something about "wet conditions".

Is there any info on what weather conditions will be in the game ?

Cheers.

If you look at the in-game leaderboard, the other driver is called InTy|NoXoR|, so I think it's another human player and not an AI.

But I'm happy looking at the Audi (A3?) @Monza video it does look like a steering wheel is used and there is no boaty feeling to it like in the VVV video, which could be due to a number of things like car setup, camera or wheel settings. In either case it looks like a non-issue if things are dialed in correctly. @ 1:30 for example he spends a long time going straight ahead while near the edge of the track.

I'd berate you for not bothering to search at all, but I can't be bothered.

There are no weather conditions. There's several times of day and night, but they're not dynamic. Cloud cover will supposedly affect track temperature, but that's about the extent of the weather involvement.
