Hey everyone,
Sorry to bring up the GTR slipstream topic again, but it's still kicking my a$$.

I was wondering if t0ast could please post his video again - I went to the link but found it had expired. Go on, you're helping a thousand lesser mortals by doing so!

Haven't even attempted Mission 34 yet, but I'm sure I'll be in on this board again when I can't stand it any more!!

Great discussion board though, whoever instigated it should give themselves a big ol' pat on the back. :)

Another person chiming in to point out that it is indeed possible to finish all the missions with the DS2. I don't use the sticks, either. Finally took out Mission #34 today by just over a second, though I nearly ruined it all by narrowly missing the braking SL in the last turn.

License golds and Driving Missions out of the way: Now, I can get back to doing the actual game :)

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! TIMES 25609.

I did mission 34! I have played that mission so many times now that I can beat it almost ever time now! Came in first by 3 seconds! Im ganna try again and shoot for 6 second lead! Peice of cake now. Best ever. All missions complete. Ok im done now.

Mission hall=best idea ever for us "good" people.

so where does the mission hall sit in difficulty compared to getting gold in all licenses? i havent checked it out yet since ive been busy getting the licenses, but finally got my model t, and am already sick of nurburgring.

I can't remember where it was said, but it was said in this thread. It's how I beat it after reading what to do. Here's a basic run-down though:

As you approach the first turn, head a little to the inside to take a shorter line (helps you get closer faster), once you are within draft range (5-6 car lengths) move up on the bank towards the rail. You should hear yourself getting into his slipstream when you are slightly higher than him. As you speed up and get closer, slowly pull back down to stay behind him and then pass him on the inside. Do whatever else to weave through and pass the rest. Do NOT let off the gas at this point, just GO! They will catch you about 1/3 to 1/2 way down the straight, keep an eye on them and get in front of them to give them your draft, then move to let them pass if you have to. Then slingshot around them again as you head into the next turn. Easy, rinse and repeat. NEVER LET OFF, they WILL catch you! that's it, you should be approaching draft range of the lead car around the first half of the final TURN. Only thing I did different is once I got in the lead guys draft THEN, AND ONLY THEN did I let off. I stayed in his slipstream the rest of the way through the turn. Then just sling past him at the exit for the win.

well, im up to Mission 34 now, 33 done.T he 1 lap magic with 787b was the hardest so far.

Durden i will answer your question once ive done Mission 34, but so far Mission hall is a bit as easy as golding IA. (which was the easiest license for me to gold). I have been able to do nearly every single mission with in the first 3 goes, only about 3 have taken more.

Off to do mission 34, hopefully it wont take long :)

its easy guys i just did it in what 20minutes.

Its about as hard as golding IA - 15 which is easy. btw i have a ds2.

1st go i just got used to the car, thanks to hotlapping the ring in my m3 challenge (see spot times thread) i know the track pretty good. 2nd go i stuffed at the start, 3rd go i passed and i had a 5 second penatly on a straight (just before 2nd carasuell).

I stuffed up so many times in my 3rd run yet i still won. If any of you guys are doin these after 80 golds you will have no trouble at all.

The key to this mission is to know the track, once you know the track its a very easy mission.

da viper
But I just cant seem to catch up to that leading mercedes, No matter how good I drive or how fast I go.

You just dont know the track well enough, if you can predict what the next 5 corners are then you should be able to pass.

You dont have to drive like a bat out of hell you just have to be smooth and consistent.

After multiple tries, I finally passed Mission 34 just now. Originally, I had gotten about 4.7 seconds from winning with the DS2. Then I didn't touch the mission since I wanted to try with the wheel -- I got it in about a week ago and finally decided to try the mission out with the wheel today. But, I did worse with the wheel since I couldn't control the sliding as well. I went back to the DS2, and got about 2 seconds from winning -- after a couple more tries, got as close as .4xx seconds. Finally, after a couple more tries, I beat it :D

Enter the next turn and get ahead of the AI cars coming out of it. Be far ahead of them coming out of the next turn so they can draft you and pass you ONCE on this lap.

Tried it and doesn't work for me. When I pass them (far ahead or not), the AI doesn't pass me. And if they do, they pass me just before the turn and start breaking hard. They always break in every turn when I am behind them, resulting in losing a lot of speed :grumpy:

vexd
or just fly up behind one skyline, and push him all the way round, and then catch the first place car eventually

Did this several times, doesn't work for me

famine
Pick a car to allow past - let him slipstream you and then move to the outside to avoid him - he WILL hit you if you don't. Stupid bugger. Flick in behind him.

done that, exactly like you said but 1) they don't pass me back (far in front or not), and 2) if they do pass me and I go out of the way to avoid colliding with the AI car, the other AI cars slam into me, always, whatever I try!!

Or I am very stupid or I have a special version lol :dunce:

humbo
The thing to remember is that you don't need to slow down or anything like that in order for the pack to catch up, just line up your car with the closest one immediately after each turn and repeat the process.

Tried that too and again they stay behind me 90% of the time and if they pass me it is because I have to lose speed!!!

Not funny, all these nice tips and they don't work, for me

Ugh Mission Hall is beginning to piss me off. I came within 0.5sec in One Lap Magic Honda (Suzuka), Subaru (Tsukuba), Mazda (Laguna Seca) and just couldn't seem to squeeze out that millisecond to win. :grumpy:

We're all plotting agaist you, but sshhh keep it on the down low

whats 24?, the amuse s2000 one? if so theres nothing else you can do but stay behind them all the time and pass at the very last second. Cept for the turns, i find if you take a wider line than the car infront of you, you draft better, but only take a bit wider not too much.
Is 24 the amuse one?

PS. About 23, I beat it by letting them hit me. Started off getting to 171 and cutting away from draft. Got infront of them so they drafted me, and i had them hit me. Everyone of em. I won by like 3 seconds.

inCogNito76
any hints for 24?
(except keeping the slipstream of the car in front alle the time?)

Only stay in line with the AI if you're close enough to catch their stream. Otherwise, cut to the inside to catch up in the corners and to keep them from drafting you back after you pass. You should catch the lead car on the back straight during the third lap. This one's more like 21 and 22, no tricks like in 23.

Thanks for the tips dori-san, I completed the GTR mission last night. (Big Yay!!)

The secret for me (and it seems as though everyone has their own!) was making sure I was smooth through the turns. The slightest jerk of the finger (I use a Dual Shock 2) and you can say goodbye to an all-important 1-2 kph.
I tried both drafting the red car the whole race, and getting good speed out of the first corner and hugging the inner line for the rest of the race (both of which were suggested by members) but neither worked for me. Go figure..!

I did the whole 'draft and be drafted' styles and began drafting the yellow GTR at the beginning of the last turn and won by about 1.5 seconds :-)

Started on some of the 3 lap races... they're not too easy either!

Ugh.

I joined up just for THIS MISSION. I've tried it a billion times and I can never get within a second or so of the lead Skyline at the end of the 3 laps. I tried running solo, tried drafting ONE car the whole way, tried slingshotting the car I was drafting all the time on the last corner, even tried to trade off as other cars would catch me and my drafting buddy.... no luck.

I'm gonna try to let them hit me, and I'll try to draft one car per straightaway method. HOPEFULLY one of these works so I can get on to the 3 lap battle missions and that dreadful rally car....

What setup does the SLR have? I'm boggled. Last night I bought an SLR and immediately took it to World Circuits and practiced the Ring for two hours. I finally had a time of about 7:08 so I figured I could take on Mission 34. But when I went to the mission... The SLR there handles differently, it seems like sometimes it has more grip, it seems like sometimes it has less. Same thing more braking power/less braking power, more hp/less hp. I got the whole thing wired and then I was lost because the Mission SLR handles differently than the SLR I bought. I was running so smooth and so quick overall, and then once I went back to the Mission I was all over the place; understeering into the grass and oversteering into certain turns from trail braking.

If I am going to practice I've got to know what else I need to do to my purchased SLR to get the handling the same. Do I change the oil? Any certain tires I should buy (The Mission description says it's equipped with Sport tires, and when i bought the SLR it came with S2s... so I figured that it was the same)? Sport brakes? Weight adding/reduction? I'm lost!

Thought I replied to this before but I guess not

Someone said earlier in the thread the SLR resembles:

TCS on.
ASM off.
S2 in fronts.
S1 in rear.

Tires are questionable but the rest of the car handles similarly.

I'm having a rough time on this, as my improvements seem to be pretty small. I'm currently in Famine's footsteps, 1 second behind by Flugplatz, 5 seconds off by Klostertal. However the lack of "oh I can do this section faster by xx by doing ..." has pretty much stopped due to the fact I know the course, I just don't know how much I can push the SLR.

Anyone with a video care to hook me up with one? I don't have a AR-Max or xport/sharkport, so setting it up on a filehosting service or sending to me over MSN would have to be done :yuck:

Okay, I won't tell if you won't. We keep this between the two of us, lol

Don't sweat it, I'm in the same boat. Like fwdtamiya said, they are all plotting against us (the one who can't seem to pass the test). :)

any hints for 24?
passed this one from the first time. Drafted every AI car (all 4 of them), got behind the leading car. Did not pass the leading car, stayed behind him untill after the last turn of lap 3 and just before the finish, I passed him and won. Don't wait too long after the last turn or he will still beat you. And don't let him get behind you and watch out for the second car ehind you.

Famine
My "works every time" technique (done it three times now, first time every time) is to never change gear ever. On approach to the first turn, draft and pass underneath the pack, move back to the top yellow line and then switch to in-car/rear view for the straight. Pick a car to allow past - let him slipstream you and then move to the outside to avoid him - he WILL hit you if you don't. Stupid bugger. Flick in behind him, slipstream and pass on the inside on the next turn, then back up to the top yellow line. Keep doing this and you'll spot the yellow GT-R on your third turn. Carry on doing this until the LAST turn.

On the last turn, slipstream and pass on the inside, then stay low until you're approaching the draft zone of the yellow GT-R. Snick up and slipstream him, pass on the inside and stay low again.

You win. Hurrah!
Yep,that's how I'm doing this mission and it works every time! 👍 :)

This is abysmal. I'm doing the best I can on mission 34 and I'm still 29 seconds behind.
Nuts to this 2 minute wait I reckon...

29 seconds behind is quite a bit. Try getting a SLR and use the settings above to have it slide around like it's on ice and do some time trials. When you get 7:10-7:15ish, give the mission another go.

Does anyone have a list of their split times (as in how far behind the lead car) for each section of mission 34? I'm hoping that I can identify exactly where I'm loosing all my time...

I'm at the last mission, the one with the SLR on the ring. I was 2.3 sec after the crappy ass 300SL :grumpy:.
And the Skyline's on Test Course. How in the love of God can you over rule that yellow S.O.B!

Courtesy of Flerbisky's post on page #7 and Samberto for runnin the times. There's a map on page 7 that will allow you to follow along split name with section, but the first 5 or 6 are accurate. Hohe Acht is slightly before the karusel and Dottinger Hohe is the final straightaway.
