Apart from the easing off part, that's exactly what I said a week ago.

... which you don't need to cheat to finish.

Finaly i did it!
Last night i won the irritating Mission @ Nurburgring.
Ones you get to now the track and the car its fun and verry exiting! 👍
Just slide it into the curves/bends with the right speed and it wont brake out or give understeer.
Great car for the track only bad brakes!! 👎
I won with -0.5sec so verry verry exiting :nervous:
So nog i finaly got the car i need for the World Championship.
And i win that race easely with the Nissan.
Jippieeeeee :dunce:

After several hours of punching my PS2 in the face for being ridiculous, I finally found the solution to mission #23 and I can express it in words.

Let the AI cars pass you ONCE AND ONLY ONCE per straight per lap. This take the first turn on the first lap, PASS the cars (but don't get so far ahead that they can't draft you after the turn), then let them draft you and pass you. Enter the next turn and get ahead of the AI cars coming out of it. Be far ahead of them coming out of the next turn so they can draft you and pass you ONCE on this lap.

Lather, rinse, repeat until you're done.

>>>> The key is to let them pass you ONCE AND ONLY ONCE per straight per lap. <<<<

thanks for the know-how matey-been stuck on that mission for a while!
I did it on my second attempt as the stupid white skyline rammed me off the road, then got a 5sec penalty-blooming pointless. But now im stuck on the last mission, nurburgring in the SLR that does not like to turn at all!

thanks for the tips small fryz and rockhound. I will try the Seattle mission again as soon as I'm done w/this 24 hour endurance. (99.4% complete 👍 )

Nevermind in this previous post .. I figured it out .... somewhat :dopey:

I haven't gotten the SLR before the karousel, as I'm losing a lot of time before it. I just went past him last run and slammed right into him as I was on it :yuck:

Can you post speeds for the corner in section #4 that you recommend going to 1st on? that's the only one that I think is slowing me down.

DAMN been working a few hours on this mission, not that it's hard, I know the line, I simply have no concentration over 7 minutes and always make a mistake late in the lap.. Then again, i was doing it late last night with little sleep. I'll try again this morning. :)

Just for reference, I recently completed this mission - 4th time of asking - and didn't use 1st gear ANYWHERE on the track.

I took the SL65 just after Angstkurve...

I'm mid 24 hours @ the ring, so I cant check my speed there right now... but basically you just run into the corner really fast and then brake really hard and shift all the way down to first because you brake so much that youre prolly somewhere in the 30's range (ill check later). You then can take the sharp left in first... this allows maximum exiting speed through this section.

Basically, a good way to check it would be to just check the split time coming out of there. If your in the mid to low 1:19's or better youre still on schedule.

When you master everything, you can even get a 1:17... but thats pretty rare. Aim for cracking into the high 1:18's and youll still be on time.

grr... side swiped the 4th place car n got 5 sec penalty and the 2nd place car ran me off to the grass and i finihs 0.8 bvehind leader =) this is fun

got the Seattle mission, thanks for the info guys 👍

and if I may add a suggestion to that mission, I would say, remember to use the entire road, left to right, to make wide turns.
Now all I need for 100% is the last mission... good luck to me
cant wait for my two prize cars I'll get out of that race

i beat mission 34 a lil bit ago and some tips to other automatic racers, get ued to holding r2 in some of the corners so that the gear wont jump and mess u up on exit speed and also red line the car

Famine
My "works every time" technique (done it three times now, first time every time) is to never change gear ever. On approach to the first turn, draft and pass underneath the pack, move back to the top yellow line and then switch to in-car/rear view for the straight. Pick a car to allow past - let him slipstream you and then move to the outside to avoid him - he WILL hit you if you don't. Stupid bugger. Flick in behind him, slipstream and pass on the inside on the next turn, then back up to the top yellow line. Keep doing this and you'll spot the yellow GT-R on your third turn. Carry on doing this until the LAST turn.

On the last turn, slipstream and pass on the inside, then stay low until you're approaching the draft zone of the yellow GT-R. Snick up and slipstream him, pass on the inside and stay low again.

You win. Hurrah!

Thank you Famine! Took 6 attempts before I read this to get within 3 seconds of the yellow Skyline, did it second time with your guide :D 👍

i have complete the first 10 missions on the first atempt...i have also complete some of the last missions with some practice...but...the missions 11 to 15 its for me impossible :grumpy:

with pratice gets prefection

good point i found 1-10 basic but 11-15 were some of the hardest if not the hardest, kind of disgouriging if you were expecting them to get progressively harder, which they dont.
All the missions are easy enough if you just keep at em.

I did like the Mission 17 where you drove the Audi R8 Race Car on the Inferion Raceway where you had to beat the Bentley Speed 8 Race Car within 3 laps of that course. I usually brake late and use firm braking to slow quicker. Try using my technique on the other missions as well. That should get you nearer to the leading car. The thing is though some cars don't like this much and on the older cars the wheels will lock and you probably slam into the wall and get that stupid penalty :yuck:. Its best to brake earlier with the older bangers and mash lol.

Wierd. My section times are as follows (off memory, if I'm goof here, I apologize):

#1: 1'48.9-1'49.5
#2: 1'40.9-1'42.3
#3: 1'30.2-1'31.8

Not great, but not bad ... going into #4, #5 and #6 I generally wind up with:

#4: 1'19.5-1'21.2
#5: 1'06.9-1'08.0
#6: 56.2-58.0

Going by these, the BEST pass I've had on the SL65 is around the karousel, right before the exit. I'm going to try to get a video up of a good run of mine and maybe you can throw me some more tips. It looks like my run is going from average-good to average-bleah after section #3. This would make sense however, since those're the sections that get the most practice.

Same here! Except I took about 10 tries and got within .5 seconds. Its great to know that there is somebody out there who actually knows what they are doing. Thanks for the help! 👍

Yeah, for me, the first 3 sections were down pretty quickly.

The latter sections seem to come more slowly bc you prolly have done them less times. Eventually you'll get there. If you can post a viewable replay (ie viewable on a computer media player) I'll be able to identify the exact areas that need fixin.

And trust me, I've passed to SL65 many times in the right turn before the karussel. But thats pretty much on a perfect run. You'll probably catch the car at this turn if your 5th split is a high 1:05.xxx. If you start getting in that range (which i eventually did almost every time) youll find yourself passing the SL pre-karussel... This make the rest of the race easier, as you have a little more time to safely pass the other cars etc...

Keep working on it, youre getting there! It took me hours to finally get it, but when you beat it you feel like youve really done something special! dont give up, you can do it.

Yep, you did. Do you mean that I can't post my experience with mission 23 as well???
I was so happy to finally beat mission 23 that I wanted to post how I did it.
And yes, your tips where very helpfull!!!! 👍

But when I get home I will begin on a fully detailed writeup complete with pictures AND (for the unfortunate ones like myself who are unable to do anything with replay files like Samberto's) a full length video. I will begin a thread containing all this in the writeup section. So look foreward to it in the coming few days.
For all who are eagerly awaiting the video: would you prefer the external, camera changing view? Or would you rather have the interal (bumper) view? And if you would rather have internal, which I assume most would like, would you rather have the analog gauges or the wheel displayed?

So in short... ASM off / TCS on 3 / Sport Mediums on the front / Sport Hards on the rear
After looking back, yes this IS what I practiced with. However, for the actual test itself the car uses S2 medium tires.

I just learned it today but I don't know how many of you know... I always thought it was the track/conditions or something... but when a replay starts and it has something funky in the middle of the screen: "SM/SM" that means what tires are being used. this is how I figured out what is on the Mission car because my replay says SM/SM which is Sport Medium. Hmm.... wish I knew that sooner.

So since I have figured this out, and since my settings were a little off... I'd say for those of you practicing try ASM off / TCS on 2 / S2 front / S2 rear.

I'd like a video too, cos i've tried pushing a skyline all the way round, drafting until the corners and then letting them draft me, tried it all...i can never get to within less than 3 seconds.... please help....

if people could email me at stuart.cowie@sita.co.uk with some tips, and then i can explain exactly what i'm doing, or not doing (i dont have net access at work, but i do have email access.... )
cheers, and hope the emails roll in :-) 👍

how about to stop being rude, and read the above posts and come back to the forum to see what people have to say instead of us attending to you personally and nobody else getting gain from it? it's a discussion forum for all of us, not email-you-tips-and-nobody-else

I tried your technique famine but they simply will not be able to pass me unless I slow down, usually I have to go down to about 255km/h (approx 155 mph) and then they go past, and I can get up to 275 before the corner, if I dont draft them I can maintain 260km/h+.

I like you - you can stay :D

Crayola - I'll have a crack at video-making this evening. Hopefully it'll become clearer - I don't slow down at all. I do tend to drive the first half of the straights on rear view (the inside-view rear mirror sucks) so I can position myself to give the AI a better draft.

I really do try that but seem about 100m ahead, How far behind you are they on the corners and what would you estimate your top speed to be after drafting? If you could answer that it'd really help, thanks anyway your technique is better than What I was doing.

Start!!! Draft the first 4 cars, approching the first turn, pass the AI cars in the first turn on the inside at 282 km/h, 176 mph. After passing them, move to the outside of the track and stay on the outside “yellow line”. After passing the AI cars, ease of the throttle a little bit and slow down, in order not to get a too big of a lead. I came out of the first corner at 266 km/h, 166 mph. Slowed down to 264 km/h, 165 mph, to stay in front of the AI cars and still drive fast enough to catch the leader (very slowly at that point, because the leader drives at 260 km/h, 162 mph on the straight). Keep watching the AI cars in your rear view mirror. The first AI car starts to draft you and I went behind this car immediatly. You will see in your rear view mirror that a second AI car is catching you and the AI car you are drafting, driving even faster and passing me and the AI car. I then immedialty started to draft that even faster car, increasing my speed up to 284 km/h, 177 mph.

At this point I was approching turn 2, going on the straight ( with the finish line). Again passing the leading AI car (the one I was drafting, not the yellow GT-R you need to catch) on the inside moving up, after passing the AI cars, onto outside yellow line. Again easing of the throttle to give the AI cars to stay behind me, so they can draft me on the next straight. I droppend, this time, my speed to 260 km/h, 162 mph for a few seconds, because I was pulling away from them. When I saw in my rear view mirror that they where just behind my, I increased my speed up to 264 mk/h, 165 mph (which is the max. speed I could squeeze out of my car without drafting, after decelerating to 260 km/h, 162 mph). Again the first AI car behind me started to draft me and passed me, pulling me behind him. The second AI car, who was drafting me and the first AI cars started to overtake us once again and I slipped behind this AI car again (just like I did on the previous straight), giving me the change to accelerate up to 282 km/h, 176 mhp. Repeat this untill You see the yellow GT-R you need to overtake to win mission 23.

If you are close enough behind the yellow GT-R, but not able to draft him, pass the other AI cars, at the end of the traight, in the second last turn of lap 3, at full speed and don’t drop your speed and go to the inside of the track immediatly (covering less track distance). Come out of this turn and move behind the yellow GT-R, starting to draft him and pass him at 282 km/h, 176 mph. Stay on the inside, don’t give him the change to draft you!!!!!!!!!!!.

I made a video but don't know yet how to post it but I'll try. It is not the same video as discribed above.

If Famine posts his video this evening, everybody will pass this awfull mission from the first time.
