The AI dont play fair in mission 23 in my pal version game.
I slipstream them around the first turn as suggested and when I back off slightly to let them catch up I can see three AI cars 3 abreast on the straight and not even trying to draft. I slow down to 262 kmh and they still haven't passed me by the end of the straight.
I have pushed a AI car around hitting 273 on the straights and then chased AI 1 at the last turn only to cross the finish line - 1 second down. Do you have to do this trial 50 times before the AI drive properly?
I have all the licenses passed, 35 gold, 30 silver and 15 bronze, so I do have some idea of what I am doing, but the AI just dont help.

I agree with MPower, but damn this last mission is crazy. I know I can get it, but its going to take me a long long time. The first time i actually completed it (yesterday), I finished 45 seconds behind 1st place. Now, my best time was 19 seconds behind, but still, thats a lot of improvement.

I know several people have beaten M34 with a DS2 in manual, but has anyone beaten it in automatic with a DS2? I don't feel like getting used to manual on the controller, because I'm eventually going to get the DFP soon and I figure I'll just learn it there. But wondering if it is possible in automatic, and if not, how close has someone gotten.

Sorry if possible repeat post in thread, have to leave for work soon and don't have time.

I worked on it for like 5 hours at first in AT... cut it down ot about 4 secs.

Switched to MT... and I very raraly use MT on DS2 bc I find it annoying in high powered cars... and within an hour i finished .107 behind the leader... and a little later I beat it by over a second.

Manual is way easier... and there isnt that much shifting since the gearing is so spread out. Dont get me wrong you prolly shift around 100 times in one lap... but its not that much of a pain honestly.

Oowww.....my best first time was exualy +19 sec. heheh 👍
But M3 is right......
And what my mistake was every time that i did see a car wich i must overtake i just kept my eyes on that car in stead of the track.
So you automaticly go to fast and you end up in the grass or so.
And that's a mistake most peaple make i guess??
Just keep your eyes on the track.....
And try to brake well before the turn and slide in to a turn (no gas) with the right speed and dont step on the gas to fast.(understeer)
It wont brake out if you slide in to a turn,no it will turn better instead (no understeer) and you've got plenty speed to be No:1. (mission Nurburgring)

I need some help in this mission too !

I´m not such a bad driver (All licences, 25 Gold 55 Silver) but i´m stuck at mission 23 !!!

I´m able to pass the 4 bots downside in the first turn. Then i´m at 282 Km/H. Then after the turn it´s almost impossible to even see one of the bots in the rearview. If i manage to drive right in front of one of them he won´t get closer.

They use my airstream only when i slow down to at least 255 km/H !!!! No way to catch up with the leading bot !

I just tried for at least 5 hours !!! I´m using a dfp, so driving a straight line is no problem for me !!!

Please help !!!!

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind 👍

I finished 40 seconds out of first on my first try of M34, but I have not gone back since. Instead, I first focused on completing the rest of the halls--I still have several of the manufacturers' races to complete--and have now been working on the missions in sequence. The first few were extremely easy, but the three-lap ones were giving me trouble. Paris Opera took forever, because, even though I found the best technique and line early on, I kept making mistakes. I was even on the bumper of the lead car on the last lap once before sliding through the fast bend and earning myself a five second penalty. But I finally put together an error-free lap, and all that practice also helped me improve my speed, so I actually caught up with the lead car midway through the final lap. The other frustrating race so far was the New York race, because I never could get the braking right until near the end. Funnily, I thought Seattle would turn out to be a pain, but braking early and accelerating through the corners, often popping into a higher gear for less understeer, worked so well that I passed for the lead on the second lap.

By the way, these missions can be a health hazard. First of all, the bring out that "just one last try" attitude that causes you to miss sleep, they have you hold your breath for extended periods of times, and they cause you to punch nearby objects out of frustration and later relief...

Thanks daan! :D

How close did I come to passing that Pace Car on the IA5 replay? :D

#1 tip for Mission #34

Go and do every licence test which involves the Ring. Do it repeatedly until you get gold on it - specifically the one with the RX-7. THEN do Mission #34.

Trust me.

Even better, get 80 Golds then do it,

Either way its so much easier.

I completed this last night. I read all the posts tried each one, but ended up working it out for myself and winning by 2 secs. A few notes and observations:

- the AI is inconsistent, I used the same (final) strategy 3 or 4 goes before getting there with very different results
- everyone talks about what is most important, well that is simple - you need the pack to catch the leader
- bumping, drafting, pushing, actually I did a bit of all that but not all planned.
- passed sometime inside, sometimes outside, prefer inside by if the way is not totally clear go outside
- you need a little luck (ie inconsistent AI)

My way:
- overtook the pack on the inside of turn one, after passing back off a fraction you need to keep your speed to c164mph.
- 2/3rd the way down the straight got overtaken and drafted into Turn 1, after passing again (and for the last time) I backed off slightly to c164mph to keep him in my draft.
- over the next lap got drafted with this car again, then on the back straight got a 'double draft' as the pack had by now caught us up and had to pass on the outside
- onto Lap 3, and here I made immense time. I got bumped from behind while drafting and then drafted late into Turn 1, came onto the back straight and started to pick up the draft from the leader while I was at 168mph from my previous draft.
- caught the leader just before the last turn and dived down to the apron and onto victory.

Now I know if I use my approach I will win, not every time, but every few goes and I think that is one of frustrations/gratifications of this test, no two races will be the same and inute changes in speed when ahead of the pack can make a big difference.

1. Don't brake or change gear.

That's what messed me up, in the Japanese version you could kick the car into sixth gear because the AI didn't brake when they entered the corners. Although I think that was a bad idea anyway because 6th gear lead you too far infront of the pack. I found that in the PAL version the easiest way is to make sure that your comming out of the corner at 163mph, because then this gives enough time for the AI to slipstream you in good time.

That's weird - I find the AI extremely consistent, especially into turn 1... Oh well. :D

I beta it 2nd go after seeing the video, 1st time I tried emulating it and it didnt work, second time I just did it my interpretation and got a 7'03.7

So have you guys totally memorised the ring now then?

LOL nope, I cannot even get under 7 Minutes in a minolta. But in the CLK touring car i can get a 6'48.000.

Yes. Pretty much.

Doesn't mean I'm any good at it though :D
