Shift 2 is possably the worst game I have ever played in rergards to freezing. I can hardly play it it freezes so often. Which really sucks because otherwise I absolutly love it. I keep trying once in a while to play it but i'm lucky most of the time to get a full race in. Some times not even a full lap. Any one else having this much trouble? I really dont want to get rid of it BUT.....

That's bizarre. On PS3 it hasn't frozen on me since patch 1.01. Either I'm extremely lucky or I have played different events, but I have literally raced many dozens of events and quick runs without even a minor glitch. :ill:

Are you on 360 or PC perhaps?

I notice the hoods shudder at the top end of the engine rev range of high powered cars, implying its the NHV from the drivetrain thats being transmitted to the bodywork. A nice touch.

Slightly OT, but have you already tried recreating your own S4 with any success?

^

Not really. My S4 25th is bone stock except for the air filter insert and mechanically identical to all other S4s produced in the same model year, just loaded up to the gills with options. The DTM body kit is aerodynamically non-functional, AFAIK. Even the exhaust is the same as the standard car, just with different tips welded on. At the end of the day, it's just eye candy. I like it though.

And since this is a rant thread, I have to say the real car has much better turn-in than the game version. In the game it feels massive and inert, like driving a bus. In fact, the real thing masks its weight far better and you retain a surprising degree of control over the car's cornering attitude once the tires starts to slip. It's still varying degrees of understeer, but much more manageable than the monolithic push you get in the game. The brakes on the real car are much better too. I think SMS must have used the data from the rear drum brakes on the Mk. I GTI by accident.

Not one of their better models, honestly.

That strange I read that the guy that made the brakes physics was the same that made the brakes on F1 2010...

kidding...

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Do I have to download the patches? If so where do I find them? Or is that what downloads when it says new update and down loads automaticly?:confused::confused:

When you start the game, you should be prompted to Download & install them.

Yup, I have the patches then. I,ve never had the menu freezing kike a lot of these others are saying, it,s always in a race or just by me self. Is there a way to uninstall and then reinstall?

Yeah, go to the 'game data utility' (not the save game utility!) and select the game/patch data, then delete it. Then start the game again, and it will prompt you to reinstall/redownload the patch.

I have a rant and many share my thought on this.

Drifting.

The Drifting in this game is bad.I had to use the NFS Ford Mustang(the old one)just to beat these events. It took me a long time just to figure out how to keep myself from spinning out.I had to use a tire pressure of 33,31(to keep from spinning) just to break third place and maybe hit 2nd.I was lucky enough to finally beat all these events, but seriously...

I couldn't use my wheel because it was impossible to control so i had to use my controller.I believe if they would have just used the same physics that is used while racing, the drifting part would be more fun and easier to do.

There are a couple things that I don't really like. First, I'm not fond of the blurring effect inside the cockpit when you start reaching high speeds. If it was just limited to helmet cam, then I wouldn't mind as much. Also, I don't like how dark the dash is when your driving during the day. When driving my own car, regardless of the time of day or position to the sun I'm in, its never that dark and I am always able to read the dash clearly. (PS3 user).

Hi, UVVBM here on the subject of PS3 shift2u freezing; after much testing the problems seems to be mod vehicles over 1800 pts, and mainly on longer tracks; for instance Mount panarama. I have been able to play all tracks on a lower spec car without instance. However to break records you need the fastest cars!

I hope this may help you enjoy the game, without the freeze.

regards UVVBM.

Thanx muchly. I will give it a try. Here's hoping!👍

Thanx bad man. I'll have to pay attention to that. I think most of my cars are up there. Anything I can do to be able to play it.:)👍

not so much a "rant" but i can't stand that helmet cam

it literally makes me dizzy and I keep going off track every time i come up into an apex of a turn

i'll keep trying it though, maybe some getting used to and i'll get the hang of it lol...

You need to get used to it. Its fun but I can't do hot laps with it. Start with the slower cars and tracks you know fairly well first. It helps a lot.

Yup. I hear ya man. It makes me go wide at the start of every turn. I keep trying once in a while.

Yeah, I absolutely hate it. I tried to get used to it but I just can't. Just sticking with hood cam mainly, and sometimes use cockpit.

But I understand why people like it. Can definitely make the game more immersive.

About FFB i think its a matter of taste. My right wrist is kind of weak after a motorcycle accident so, as long as the FeedBack is good, i can do without the Force :D

Maybe that's why I get used to the lack of FFB since the beginning. I just need the feedback "jumps" to know what the car is doing as long its done "correctly".

This is a the rant thread so I am not here to disagree with the opinions. I read to get a feel for what others are thinking.

The cockpit or helmet cam view in S2U is the best I have come across. I have always avoided interior views as they usually seem too confining. I am trying hard on the computer sims (Race series, GTR2, etc.) to use the cockpit views but the view is so limiting.
I don't even notice the S2U helmet cam movements - it must just fit "my" style of racing. Exterior views I compare to driving with assists (further from reality). My $.02

Well I think the hood cam is the closest to what I see IRL when driving... My eyes usualy are on the road and I do also see the hood ffrom time to time but what I dont see IRL is 4 arms and two wheels... :D

You got a point there... never looked at it that way. I guess I need to add a dash and windshield - don't think the wife would be too keen on the idea though :D

:lol::lol:when I play F1 I usually place a strong fan in front of me and a heater on my back it adds to the immersion:dopey: Im kidding

But in your case I wouldnt be so sure because Ive seen a lot of sim racing cockpits like that around the internet.

My thread got closed so ill put it here. After shift ill never moan about gt5 again.Don't get me wrong I was very much looking forward to Shift 2 as I quite enjoyed the first but as everyone else I ended up being very disappointed.
On first release I found the game to be pretty much unplayable. The grip reduction while turning and input lag was atrocious, the sound of the cars is awful and im pretty sure dangerous to speakers due to the audio clipping. Then there are the issues of freezing, slowdown and magnetic cars.
So when the updates came out and people where saying the input lag had gone and it was like a totally new game I got excited again but alas the only thing fixed was the ffb grip reduction and the awful input lag is still there and still makes the game unplayable, so I gave up on the game.
Having not played it for a few months I decided to go back to GT5 and I was shocked at how good this game feels to drive. Its light years ahead of Shift and is a complete pleasure to play.
A driving game should primarily be about driving.GT5 might lack a good damage model but its addictive and feels right. It made me realize just how bad shift is and how shoddy of a job SMS have done.
So as the title says after Shift I will never complain about GT5 again.

You have every right to rant away and state your opinion but you have to accept that other people might have diferent opinions and you dont have the right to place messages on other users profiles calling them Fanboys just because they dont agree with you... I have my issues with Shift, it is far from perfect but it is alot more fun and addictive than GT5 in my book. and the lag after 1.02 is very acceptable at least in my system with my controler... the thing is - I was a very big fan of the GT series (fanboy if you wish) and bought a PS3 just because of that game and I after all the wait I really think they came out short... hell even GT4 was a better game IMO and with a lot more events... I was very disapointed. With shift it was the other way around... but that does not make me a fanboy... Yes the game takes some skill to drive the faster cars... and, unlike GT5, the faster the cars the harder it is to beat the AI - I think you dont need to be a fanboy to acknoledge that... Im sorry if you cant take that but do not place anymore messages on my profile... you can PM me if you wish but the next message of that kind and I will have to report you.

Like I said, Trib, don't feed the troll. Beware of users with very low post-counts writing inflammatory messages. They do it just to get a rise out of you and enjoy it if you respond. Just ignore them. :sly:

It's quite funny how a super mod actually started this.

I don't have Shift 2 yet, but am hoping to get it soon. Doesn't seem too promising from some. But seems OK from others.

True. What should a racing game be about, though?
:sly:

Sorry, I really couldn't resist that one. I think people are throwing the whole 'driving game' stuff around like it was an excuse as to why a certain game doesn't need to be good at replicating actual racing...

Anyways, I actually came here to rant a little. Not a big concern, but there's just one thing that annoys me: I've recently been a bit let down by the performance rating in S2U. It seems so unbalanced between different builds of the same car and, even more noticibly, between entirely different cars.
While that's not that bad in, say, D class, but it certainly gets more severe with increasing perfomance numbers of the cars.

I guess it's to be expected, as not every car fits every track equally well, so a car at 999 that doesn't fit onto Sozuka will be slower than a car at 999 that matches up perfectly with that track, but still... It just is a bit disappointing to realize that your favourite cars won't be as fast around a given track as a different car you don't like as much.
