What bothers me the most is the fact that I'm apparently too stupid to recognize any input lag on my PS3 version and have been enjoying it like crazy so far.

What bothers ME is that I'm apparently too stupid to play on inspite of it. One more week without a patch and it's going on eBay.

The only thing that i don't like about this game is that you can't use your custom soundtrack to listen to in the menu. The music now is getting kinda old.I know it stinks(for me)but that doesn't keep me from enjoying the game.👍

man you said it how can they have custom soundtrack in hot pursuit and not have it in shift 2 weird to me

Ehm brambos, I m loving this game too but considering the fact that even the devs admitted that there is a steering lag and that they re working on a patch for it you should probably not be so arrogant towards people who experience it.
Its ok, buddy! :sly:

Like I said, I bloody love this game but some things are really bad/frustrating:

- Input lag!
- Collision physics are just wrong sometimes, especially that 🤬 glue effect to walls and other cars. Also the fact that the AI cars are more stable in collisions than the players car. And some questionable physics like the too light cars you suddenly find on your hood when you press them against a wall or sometimes when you get hit in the front from the right and your car spins to the right... yeah, whatever.
- No tuning possibility in the start race menu!!! Sorry but thats a really stupid mistake and I cant understand how that could pass the quality control. This needs to be patched, too!
- The almost on/off sound when hitting the throttle. There is not enough transition soundwise between zero and full throttle. Makes dosage of the throttle harder than it should be.
- The drifting controls drive me insane. Especially in the tutorial. Spinning out while holding the steering wheel dead straight with 50% throttle in 3rd gear... yeah, sure!
- The vinyl editor is lacking in options and controls. You cant paint rims, thats quite sad. This both could be corrected in a patch/DLC too.

None of these is a gamebreaker and some can be patched, but they are still flaws and some are straight up unnecessary.

Fair enough. I'm just stating that while playing I don't actually notice this lag. It might be because I play with a HKS Racing Controller and the lag is maybe more noticeable with a wheel? If anything I find cars sometimes respond too abruptly and I would like to be able to reduce the sensitivity of the control below 0. :)

^ These I fully agree with.

👍

Well if most of the people that are enjoying the game stoped playing it and actually posted some appreciation you would see that that is not the case and even so Ive been reading more positives than negatives and that with the fact that theres a patch on the way is what is making me get the game...

So you haven't actually got the game..?

Also i don't understand why people are posting positive things in this thread, especially those +1'ing left right and center. As the thread title says, this is the official 'RANT' thread. It doesnt need those not experiencing problems posting there unnecessary thoughts in here. There is an appreciation thread somewhere. Use it. This was made mainly so that that Shift 2 developers who apparently read this (instead of the official forums) can look at both the positives AND negatives separately.

I dont know if you are refering to me but in my case I just posted here because you where stating something for a fact that isnt true... and I should know it, Ive been searching the forums and reviews to see if I would get this or not. Im as entitle to post here has you are and I might even be posting here in one week or two for diferent reasons, who knows (I hope not) but for now I just wanted to keep things fair, square and honest.

You are right about one thing this is the rant away thread and theres was no need to open another one getting personal with the only Dev that tried to help us get news about the patch.

And you could also try reading the AUP and stop double posting on purpose...

The cars still suffer from feeling floaty, but not as bad as shift 1. Also, the AI is impossible to beat and I love a challenge. Besides those issues, I love the game. I hope the patches come soon to fix the hic ups and glitches.

Another thing, the customization is odd in the game. As soon as I upgrade my car, it can't go into the race anymore. There's no indication of the amount of power you can have for the race you are trying to do. I could be wrong though...

There will be cross talk in both threads. That's not something that can or should be avoided. Any viewpoint either way is open to 'peer review', provided the resulting discussion is reasonably intelligent. After all, intelligent discussion is the point.

In other words, people are free to rant in here about things that bother them in S2U, but shouldn't assume that anything they have to say will be accepted without question. If I posted in here that people who enjoy S2U are mouthbreathing troglodytes who molest farm animals, that wouldn't help anyone.

But those replying with a counterpoint should be careful not to make the thread unusable by those with legitimate gripes by spamming overly argumentative retorts. I am keeping a close eye on the signal to noise ratio in both these threads.

(Speaking in general now to all thread users, not directly to Quincy12)

Some people have a tendency towards overcorrective thinking. Like they think they're the only person in the universe that can restore the cosmic balance of things. A blogger I read summed it up best by saying if some people feel the world is slightly in favor of Coke, they feel absolutely compelled to counteract these forces by being a Pepsi Fanatic!

Don't be that person.

Yey! my rant, on hard/elite PS3/G27 at 24%

Physics at high speed/high power cars is just wrong.

- Having different physics for drifting just proves it.
- Sliding between corners on tarmac ( on every corner ) should never be faster than grip driving.

Yes i have the game and i tried all the freaking tunes and wheel settings. I just gave up on time attack races. I have been winning the races but it was just to much "ridge racer" for me.

I think it is on the best physics Shift2 can produce, no fixing that. Otherwise they would have the elite mode already on proper physics.

Most realistic racer, a whole load of ********. Yes it simulates dirt, shaking, AI and damage, but not driving. They could call it hovercraft racing, and it would be realistic (the way they use "realistic") too, cause it would simulate hovercraft physics half way too.

There you go, and please only comment if you have bought/played the game already.

My rant:
It freezes on PS3. During races and in the tuning "shop".
It can't even do one lap on the ring in an insanely fast car.
I've tried every setting, replaced all the hardware (except the TV) and the game disc. It still freezes.

If anyone is able to do high speed laps on the ring without it freezing (in a works car) and would be willing to share their setup and some of their time with me, then I would try to duplicate your setup here and maybe that would make it playable here as well... The only thing I can't do is drive without a wheel. I am useless with the controller... (It still freezes when I manage to reach max speed with the dualshock controller, so I don't think the wheel is the problem).

my gt500 is not quite works yet but i have done many laps on the ring no problem so far it has only freeze on the tunining shop screen twice since i got the game on release day also using ps3

I tried it again, deleted the savegame file, played enough "one make races" to be able to works convert the murcielago lp640 and took it to the ring (time attack). It froze within 3 minutes.

Discovered something new though - instead of power cycling the ps3 I can just eject the shift 2 disc and insert the gt5 disc and it takes me back to the xmb :)

I dont have too many issues with this game. It's fun and I had relatively low expectations for it, so it turned out to be 100% better than I expected. However I still do have some things I'd like to see improved. Here are some of my problems with the game:

- Physical model is a bit too forgiving in some cases. Also, I agree that sliding out back end on GT1 cars is a bit too much. I totally understand it happening on street cars, because they are by default not tuned for racing, but full-blown racing machines should not be sliding into the corners even when you turn that downforce way up.
- Physical contact (probably) is somewhat bugged. When you come in contact with another car or a wall, it seems like you are glued to it and its very difficult to separate. In some cases it's fine, but a lot of times it feels unrealistic.
- (Bug) If you've crashed into AI and then restart the race, as soon as the race starts the AI will turn the wheel 180 degrees to the side and will ram itself into the wall, just because it thinks you'll hit him again, even if you are about 4-5 cars behind that car.
- Autolog is not separated by class of the vehicle. To get up those leader boards you pretty much have to use a really fast car.
- No way to post comments on other user's wall/send private message (on PC). This is a big one as I'd like to use autolog sometimes to leave comments to people.
- Drifting with a wheel is almost impossible. Not that I care too much about drifting anyway, but since it's in the game I'd like to be able to play it. In this game to drift you pretty much have to use a gamepad.

Other than that I dont have any other major problems with it. Of course other things could be improved, but overall it's a pretty good game that does what it wanted to do. It's not a full-blown sim, but it's not an arcade either. If you want a full blown simulation and dont mind having to look for mods and pick and choose the good ones (rfactor) or pay a huge premium to only play online and get very little content (iracing), then you know your options. If you want the next best thing, then Shift 2 is for you (or GT5 if you are on PS3 and love hot lapping).

I dislike the game for many reasons.
To start, the "best physics engine" is actually, well, not the best.
I traded in the game and went back to GT5.

Playing with a keyboard until the 27th :nervous: . Unless I find a way to get a DS3 working on pc, it stays on the shelf.

Not really a rant, but I started one of those retro challenges last night, and my car was parked on the starting grid at a 45 degree angle facing the grass. It was very weird, on launch I had to turn back towards the track.

I've noticed some complaints about not being able to change wheel color. In a pre-release Autolog trailer, didn't one of the drift racers talk about and show changing the wheel color to lime green on his Mustang? Can someone clarify this?

Obviously, I don't own the game yet. I figured I could come here to read about the pros and cons by a more mature crowd than the posters on the game forum. Thanks in advance for the responses.

There's a ton of wheels you can choose from when tuning your car, and some are colored. I think the lime green wheels are in the available wheel selection.

Yes, I confirm this to be true. I was just shopping for new rims a bit ago and came across the lime green ones, as well as bright orange, yellow, etc.

But, being the boring old guy that I am, I went with the black ones on my plain, matte black Lotus Exige.

Lol... Yeah... I'm the same. I always go for gray, or black when I'm feeling adventurous :dopey:

I leave all this newfangled tuningamajee for them youngsters. 👍

It still would be nice to paint wheels though (except the wheels with the actual wheel color in their names, obviously)

im am dying to play this game but waiting for the patch to make the game playable. Any word on when this patch will come?

Your post makes it sound like you haven't played it. It's far from unplayable. I play it almost every day with a wheel. This "unplayable" claim going around is hyperbolic crap. Just because somebody didn't like it they said "unplayable"... annoying. There is no need to wait, if you haven't played it yet try it and you may well enjoy it a lot. Patch is rumored for the end of the month, though.

👍 this x 1000

Unfortunately there's a handful of very vocal haters badmouthing the game very actively on the GT5 forums.

Shift 2 is complete ****! I used to trust IGN, Gamespot, etc for reviews, but now I'm beginning to realize that game developers probably pay these companies under the table to view their games in a positive light.

I was suckered by EA themselves, and I pre-ordered this ****** game. I regretted my decision within the first 5 minutes of playing it. EA quite simply lied about everything they claimed this game was going to be. The game couldn't feel more arcadey! The controls are soo bad, that at any setting the game is virtually unplayable. I have also tried the game on the Logitech G27 wheel, and it is just as bad as the DS3.

I'm never going to pre-order an EA racer again!

There are vocal haters on NFS's own forums too
