I have to admit the handling is pretty crap boarderline "unplayable" havne't hooked it up to the wheel yet but just trying to drive this using the controller is annoying enough

I am having a lot of fun with this game. The handling is good (with some settings tweaked). Now if only I could finish a damn race without my PS3 locking up, I'd be having a lot more fun.

I've found the freezing problem occurs much more with the faster cars. Anything with a rating of 1900+ and I'm looking at two freezes an hour, but I can race C-Class all day long. WTF? A patch can't come quick enough.

Overall, I feel I'll eventually enjoy this game, and I guess it's good for a breather from gt5. However, I have two major gripes with it.

1. Input Lag! I hate this, with a passion. Did they bother testing this thing? Oh, it takes a second and a half for your car to react? Good enough, lets ship it out so we can get the next nfs game out in two weeks.

2. No one else has really commented on this, but it still bugs me. 720p. EA does this for all their games, and it makes me angry, because there's no excuse for it. It's just laziness and a lack of pride in their "work."

/rant. Thanks for listening guys.

1. Going to be fixed in 2-3 weeks in a patch
2. No only EA does 720p on consoles, but 80% of all the console games are 720p. If you want 1080p, PC is your best bet :)

1.5 seconds? Wow.. tell us your controller setup. I'm sure we can help you reduce that to mere milliseconds with some minor tweaks. Because that's how tiny the lag is on my PS3 (driving with a HKS racing controller).

Finally someone with the same problem as me.

I guess you're on PS3?

I haven't found anything that reduces the risk of freezing though...
Driving slower cars is the only thing that helps.

I've registered a case with EA support, they have passed it on to "extended support" whatever that its.

I finally tried it with a wheel...it's all right, much easier to handle than with the ds3 hahah anyways i have is question..is there a way to make it fully manual so it doesn't shift for you automatically whenever you hit redline? I can't find the setting for this

Yeah, I'm on PS3. As far as EA support goes, every racing forum I've been on (including EA's Shift forum) has numerous complaints about the freezing issue so I wouldn't expect a personal response from them. They know about it so we just have to wait for the patch now, which I think should probably arrive mid-May.

Yes, most people seem to be complaining about freezing in menus though.

Will let you know if I hear back from EA support. They have been quite responsive and nice so far, but their support is limited to "have you connected the power cable" type of stuff.

Have you been into the options menu to change the gears to manual, or are you in auto but shifting manually? If you've not changed the settings, it's under options and controller settings (or whatever) and then the manual/auto settings are hidden away with the controller you're using (i.e. if you're using a wheel, then they're on the menu with the wheel graphic and controller assignments).

You're right though, the game is considerably better with a wheel than it is with a controller. It's nearly unplayable without a wheel.

It's nearly unplayable without a wheel.

Exaggerate much? I found the steering with a controller gets a lot easier if you dial the steering lock all the way down to 10-14, depending on the car (it's on the second page of the tuning section).

The default settings are far too loose and slippery, but nothing that can't be tweaked. 👍

Well, I rented Shift 2 today and I'm currently waiting for it to install. If I have something to complain about, I'll be sure to stop by here again. :)

Wow, the physics are not as bad as I've seen people describe them. I can't complain about them honestly. I think the physics are great. I have also seen some people complain how the car drifts all over the place, but I have yet to see that so far. But then again, my BMW 135i is the only car I have. Maybe I'll see what people are talking about when I get a more powerful car later in the game. I'm using a wheel on Elite, btw.

Honestly, I've had a lot of enjoyment with this game right from the start and GT5 can't touch the level of fun this game has. The only complaint I have is that I wish I owned the game now instead of renting it.

You have to take it for what it is, most of the time, which is either:

1) People who are fanboys of another franchise and who will never like Shift 2.
3) People who drive using a hand controller and complain that the game is not "sim" enough.
2) People who expect the default wheel settings to be 100% to their liking out of the box.
3) People who expect the default car setups to be 100% to their liking out of the box.
4) People who are impatient and get mad when they feel like they are not as good at driving as Michael Schumacher, because they are used to playing against an AI that doesn't present any form of challenge whatsoever.

Exactly, especially the first one. This is why I always try a game out myself before listening to anyone else's opinion or a review.

Another issue that gets annoying is the money glitch. I just had an amazing race and finally made it to level 18. The next thing I know my money didn't show under my earnings.

These types of issues make me question on if I should keep shift 2, but all that changes when I drive on the Miami course at night.

This game needs a patch quite badly !
l can only do half of the career races , game freezes whenever driving fast or works converted cars.
Drift mode completely sucks!
l should have taken my own advice and never bought any EA product ever again , but like a dummy l thought maybe they will get it right this time !
Fat chance eh.
EA you guys need to test test test , before releasing this crap on the gaming community .
Final chance EA , this patch better fix all the issues this game has or l swear to never ever buy another EA product again .
The most frustrating thing is that there is a great game in there somewhere but it has more bugs than Algonquin park in July! :(

This coming from a guy who have been with since GT1;

This game is serisously growing on me. Not had a racing experince like this since GTR. Always loved GT but with the new installment GT5 I just more and more bored. The opposit thing has habend with Shift 2. Just took my first ride in the Golf MK. 1 and Lancia Delta... and what a joy. Everybit in the game seems so much more involving and rewarding at the same time. Yes, the steering can cause some frustration but thats some I can live with.

The engine sound the gearshift (every gearbox in GT5 sounds like either a automatic or a dual clutch) is right on the spot for me. So a big thumbs up that is for me :-)
