I don’t understand the negative comments here...... this news is and can only be good, PD are adding to the game as they promised and catering for as many groups as possible.

The nostalgia is strong with the GT type mode update, and many of the long term GT’ers will love it no matter what AS WELL as the online sport mode that will continue to grow regardless.

It’s not like it’s a pay to win model....... *cough* EA *cough*

So enjoy

When they bring back El Capitan (GT2/3?) I'll be happier than a pig in shi....

I really want midfield raceway and apricot hill.....

There were decent night tracks on the earlier games Special Stage 5 and 6 and then Tokyo...

I still play it but I prefer 6 or 5 because I can use a wheel and pedals which means fast as bob lap times...I can't compete with a DS4 its pants

I'm glad for this release.
I quite like off line play, and, was making custom races, but, career mode gives me something to "do".
Raced online last night for the first time and it was exhilarating... I may become an addict... but, sometimes I just want to kill an hour and do not want the added exhilaration (stress) that online provided.

What is good, is, this will open the wallets of more consumers, who will also request more tracks (and cars), so, this has to be good right?

I am most excited about the mention of more tracks... "You can of course look forward to the addition of new tracks as well, so stay tuned!" fingers crossed for some of many great originals and the real tracks of 5 and 6.

Fantastic, the class GT career is back. As I said in my status, I now truly want it. It's also continuing that GT3/GT5P vibe I've been getting from GTS since its announcement. As for the cars, oh how I hope some of the GT6 cars they bring back in the future updates include the Lamborghini Diablo GT2, Mclaren F1 GTR, Castrol Tom's Supra, and the R33 Nissan Skyline Touring Car. Especially considering now a livery editor is present in GTS.

I'm super excited to know that this announcement is an indication that many things have improved for the better, and is a tell tale sign that many good things are to come in the future for GT Sport.

However, with that being said, we still do not have 1 true Open Wheel (Indy Car or Formula) car yet. I know that the direction of the game is towards Touring cars, but I still have got to believe more then ever now (after yesterdays announcement) that they are indeed coming, because many of those cars in the list were in previous iterations of GT. So, maybe the FGT or perhaps the Ferrari Formula Cars from GT5 in a few months? :D

One other thing in yesterdays announcement that raised an eyebrow for me was the way they worded things, particularly the word free.
Several times they used the word Free to describe either 'these 3 new free cars' or, 'Launching as part of our free December update' etc.

I've got to believe that there will also be pay to play DLC's coming our way as well.. Perhaps, at the very least we may get Open Wheel Cars, but we may have to pay for them.

Unfortunately you can’t please everyone these days.

This [offline mode] is a positive development! If GT Sport carries on in this direction and offers a proper offline campaign with full championships, and more tracks (maybe including some tracks from the earlier Gran Turismos -- like El Capitan, Costa Amalfi, Tahiti Maze and Citta di Aria from GT4, plus Pikes Peak from GT2) then I'll buy a PS4 to play it.
Until then, I'll keep on playing GT6 on my PS3.

You do understand the more online race options you give players, the more you shrink the match making pool? This is why it seems so limited at the minute. Gr4 and Gr3 are great for online racing. Good grip with good sensation of speed. I would hate to race against public match made players with Gr1 cars or the like. That would be a mess.

I never, ever want to see rally in dailies or drift and drag. That would be a waste of PDs limited resources and again would shrink the matchmaking base. You cannot have obscure events in a Sport mode. Things like rally, keep to lobbies and NOT sport mode.

There would be the choice, if you don't want to race certain categories, don't... Stick to gr3/4. Today we have VW Golf, Gr.4 GT-R and Road GT-R, 3 one make races and the general feeling on this based upon everyone I've spoke to today (Lobbies, stream, friends list) Is that today sucks. Boring boring boring. Had the VW yesterday as well?....
"PD's limited resources" were spent making a versus AI league/mode/campain, rather than adding to and fixing sport mode. Everyone I know (who still plays) wants sports mode to work out. It can be very very fun.
If its a shrinking playerbase you are worried about, fixing and enhancing sport is key. I had a large GT5/6 group die on this game. Most chose PC2 for the better track variation, those who did buy are 'taking a break until online is better'. Bored of the same 6 tracks, 2.5 categories and a menopausal penalty system. Gran Turismo should be a title that doesn't have to worry about head counts.

Not going to lie, I was not ready for the news of this update. I hadn't played GT Sport for a few weeks (Gone back to GT5 to get the Platinum trophy), but when I saw it, I can say with confidence that no update to a game has made me more excited than this one. I wish someone had recorded my initial reaction, it was that good....

Gran Turismo Sport has gone from being an average game to a very good one in a very short space of time. Although I think the game is still missing major components (rainy conditions on tracks, in depth performance customisation etc), this new update shows the game is improving at an alarming rate....

I think the most shocking part about this is..... IT'S POLYPHONY DIGITAL. IT APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE BETTER THAN JOHN CENA EVER COULD, even with confirmation of consistent DLC beforehand. Seriously, I never thought I'd see the day, but if updates to GT Sport are this good, this game will turn from good to great before we even realise.

All I can say is, Keep the momentum going PD! In terms of updates, you've made a great start off the line, but there are a lot of corners coming up!

And as for the continued negativity, Put it this way. At least Gran Turismo hasn't fallen for the same AAA idiocy that many games (including Forza 7 and NFS Payback) have. At least with Gran Turismo Sport you get the sense the developers care about the user experience and aren't trying to assault your wallet. It's times like these that make me glad I stuck with Gran Turismo, even through it's darkest times.

Naturally, all it takes is a flick of a switch and GT Sport could become the next cash grabbing loot box gambling simulator, but judging by the backlash that Star Wars Battlefront 2 has gotten recently, Sony will need some pretty big balls to attempt a scheme like that....

I feel like GT Sport will be around for a while. I can see them expanding the VR mode, bumping the res to native 4K, and adding dynamic weather and time of day on PS5.
I hope so too. GT Sport could very well be a long term platform. Rather than creating sequels, they keep updating the game over the years so it becomes like a Gran Turismo Hub, filled to the brim with lots of cars, tracks and modes, as well as getting a generational update on PS5, like you said.

I think Minecraft is the best example of a game that has been updated over a long period of time. It's pointless making a sequel to Minecraft when the game itself is an incredibly flexible platform to create new content. Gran Turismo Sport has the same potential in terms of the racing genre.

As long as they don't implement loot boxes, micro transactions or any of that stuff, it would be awesome. Paid DLC would be the best solution with regular car and track packs, as well as the occasional free pack.

The concept of video game sequels is less significant now than it was ten or twenty years ago. Online updates can keep a game going forever in theory, so I think Gran Turismo could use the same philosophy. With time, it could become the 'ultimate' Gran Turismo game.

Of course, every now and then a game will need a sequel to overhaul the entire experience, but sequels don't need to happen every two or three years.

Had some more time to reflect on this but...

What will the focus of GTS be going forward ? I actually bought into GTS because it wasn't the same old GT. Instead of the first update celebrating the games strongpoints and adding something related i get this GT7 type apology update with cars that don't even have a GT counterpart. Yay, cars from my dads era that have been in countless of racing games before. Don't the people whining about their exclusion have enough games to choose from already ?

Such a missed opportunity. They could have added 10 Super GT machines from the nineties, their 'normal' versions and add a daily 'classic series' race for them to race in. Something like this would be in line with what i think was this games philosophy. I would have loved that. Adding a truck, a van, some random JDM machines from the nineties and a Ferrari doesn't make any sense to me. For GT7 maybe, but this isn't GT7.

So what's the deal here ? I love Sport but now i fear the next ten or so updates aren't going to focus on making the online aspect any better but just randomly adding cars and single player stuff i don't care about. This isn't what was advertised.

I don't care if it doesn't sell initially, the gameplay is good enough and that is all that matters to me as a consumer right now. Kaz san should have word with Kono san from Project Aces. Kono's Ace Combat Infinity on PS3 got slammed by 'critics' and 'fans' upon release only to become the most financially successful and most played entry in the series. If the gameplay is good, gamers will (eventually) notice. Show some spine and believe in your product man.

Edit: some spelling.

You can probably use the wheel you use on PS3 on your PS4 via Drive Hub. And there's a 10% GTPlanet discount.

I'm using my G27 wheel that way and it's perfect

I get the impression that the vast majority of people here prefer a traditional Gran Turismo experience, thus they have decided to add more traditional content. Although, I believe they had planned this in the first place, but just didn't have time to implement it for the October release.

I understand where you're coming from. GT Sport is primarily an E-Sports game, so it's sudden inclusion of more single player content goes against the games primary purpose. However, all things considered, this is still a Gran Turismo game at heart. If they put the effort into creating the museum pieces and scapes then you can pretty much guarantee that the old school GT traits will continue with every update.

Gran Turismo Sport is still a game in which you race, earn credits, buy cars with credits and modify your cars. Ok, so the performance mods need an overhaul badly, but the option is still there. If GT Sport was a true E-Sports title, then they wouldn't have bothered with things like scapes, hell even the livery editor would potentially bite the dust. The main appeal of Gran Turismo to me is that is does more than one thing. It's a racing game, it's a photography suite, it's a car design competition and so on. Gran Turismo Sport is no different to previous GT games in this regard. It just so happens that they decided to use the FIA partnership as the main selling point of the game.

This does naturally mean that the game lacks a specific focus. Yes, the game certainly prioritises the online experience, but a lot of GT fans have made it clear that they want more single player content, so why not? Besides the initial single player offering was not too bad despite being super short. It's only natural they would add more to it.

As for the online, I think it's great as it is, aside from a really questionable penalty system. The only way you could expand the online is by adding more cars and tracks to race online with. I mean come on, imagine competing in a multi-race camper van championship. That would be amazing!

But also, this is the first of what will hopefully be many updates. PD should be listening to our reactions and will know where to take the game next. The E-Sports focus certainly won't be taking a backseat, especially when the proper FIA championships kick off.

But that's my view of it. The irony here is, I've spent the vast majority of my time playing the single player of GT Sport, having only done a handful of online races. You could say that's me not making the most of what the game is, but seriously, the online focus is not the main reason I bought GT Sport. It was the scapes, museums and livery editor which sold it for me, but hey, everyone has their own ways of getting enjoyment out of something

It will indeed be very interesting to see how they balance the two moving forward. Kaz already said Supergt would come. Will the GT League mean newly converts to online play move back to offline reducing the available matching pool making matching more difficult ? How does GT League fit into player progression in terms of achievements and levels ?. Does this mean some of the more minor on line championships as shown in early mockups and even the PD Cup will not happen?

We will just need to wait and see - one thing is clear though there's now plenty to keep us entertained with Sport Mode, Campaign, GT League and even Arcade.

I hope this contingency plan had been in the works for a while and all the implications thought out. Exciting times ahead as lots of content incoming !

I dream about Apricot Hill, Red Rock Valley, Midfield Raceway, El Capitan, Grand Valley Speedway and Trial Mountain.
I remember that tunnel section on trial mountain quite clearly! The sharp corner right before the first tunnel and those hills right after the last tunnel between those dense trees. Would love to see that in GT sport graphics! By far my favorite section ever in the whole GT series!

Again. 57.2% take-up of a Trophy that is required before you can race online. Think about that.

This extraordinary trophy statistic suggests widespread dissatisfaction with the e-sports emphasis in GT Sport. This has been reflected in low Metacritic and Amazon user review scores.

As of writing the Metacritic user score for GT Sport is 6.0. With Polyphony Digital announcing superb content updates including a GT League I predict user scores will top 8.0+ post-Christmas.

All I hope about the GT League is :
- the possibility to do qualifications sessions before a race
- having real endurances races (please please please please no "24 minutes of Dragon Trail" or something like that)
- new events and championships when new content is coming into the game.

If at least these 3 points are respected it's gonna be a massive **** up to the trolls who spit on the game !
I hope-

- that the races are 20 car grids

- the ai is the same as what we have in custom race mode

- ability to turn off boost mode if it is on
