Perfect Balance's cars | Small update| 05/03/14

The last RB20DET's made 215hp, roughly the same as an S14 SR20DET, around 5 or 10 more than an S13 SR...

You get a wee bit more torque though.

Yeah, the power figures are roughly the same, but the rb20 is a bit cheaper, but a bit more expensive to install. Either way I think it might cost around the same to get it done, I just love the sound of the rb, and it's a bit more unique.

Also, got some stuff in the mail. Updates to come.

Boy am I gonna hate driving this thing around now...

Looks like it's coming together nicely. It also looks like it will be a PITA if it is your daily driver. 45 degree angles and slow speed over speed bumps and steep entrances from now on

I've owned 4 cars with them, all FWD, but never had any problems. Not one. Maybe it's a turbo thing.
Most likely a "sticking a motor in another car from another car with the budget of a typical drifter" thing.

EDIT: I think some of those angles might have to be a lot more than 45 degrees. My driveway for example....

Speed bumps were impossible months ago.

Then you shall enter driveways backwards. Like a boss. Yeah I guess speedbumps are a problem whenever you lower the car since it has some lower parts in the undercarriage

Forwards or backwards won't help. If I don't scrape it going in, I'll hook it to the ground and tear it off backing in.

C-West replica?

The problem lies mostly with the gearbox, the gears feel like they're made out of glass.

And that's what I meant. The motor's fine, it's the gearbox that is the weak point in an SR20 swap. I've seen guys fix this by getting 350Z gearboxes, but that requires a custom adapter plate and custom mounts, which equals more $$$.

C-West replica?
EastBear replica. (theirs is discontinued)

Bings in Canada make a rep as well, and this ebay one was shipped from Canada. Both are made of fiberglass, and I wonder if it's not the same one as Bings sells for 275ish.

The problem with SRs is that most drifters are broke and can't afford to actually make it run right, or at all. Cheap parts, built in your garage, etc. Then of course there are V8s and RBs, which make SRs kinda pointless.

Nice front bar dude. Do you have a daily driver to burn around in or is this is?

Regarding the SR, if done right they can be very impressive. Just look at what Tomei can cook up with one..

Unless you care about originality, then it's not. Sorry, I'm just a hardcore Nissan/SR20 guy, and even though I like the RB motors, I'd prefer to have the SR. Not to mention, with everyone doing LS or RB swaps now days, SR swaps are more rare now. Just how I like it....being different.

There was also an S13 coupe at the last drift event with 2JZ in it from a Lexus IS300.

Exactly!

Anytime you're in chicago, I'd like to introduce you to some of these broke drifters.

That, and the fact that most drifters can't drive worth crap and tend to do everything that reduces the life of an engine (and no, its not a "drifting thing.") So, when you add what Keef said to the equation, the result is a large percentage of drifters having reliability problems with turbo SRs which are, more often than not, way overboosted stock SRs to begin with.

The LS1 swap is really good swap but lately it's been making everything kind of bland since that is practically what everyone does (at least in the drifting world.) For me I would use the SR swap, for numerous reasons, originality being one of them, plus the fact that they're becoming more rare.

PB, how exactly will you be driving in and out of your driveway now?

EDIT: There's allot of curb/driveway ramp products out there...

Or you could just make your own...

Only car I've got at the moment. Planning on finding something else to drive in the near-ish future though.

Sr swaps are not more rare now. Everyone and their mom still has them, it's just other ones are starting to become more popular.

Kinda like saying, for example, that the previous Gen Civic is becoming more rare now that the 2012 one came out. Which is technically true, but it doesn't mean they aren't still EVERYWHERE.

Or you could be really different and swap in a S52 from a BMW...

Do not want.

Anyway, sprayed it black for the meantime and installed it. Not sure what I'm gonna do about color matching or sideskirts yet.

Excuse the flex on the suspension, was trying to figure out how to get out of my buddies yard. Ended up removing the lip and installing it in a parking lot a bit down the road.

I've enjoyed watching the progress you've made with your car, by watching through the pictures you've uploaded :) What is your plans with this car now?
