Perfect Balance's cars | Small update| 05/03/14

I'd run with standard rims until I saved enough to get a new set I really liked, guaranteed not to be warped or have gutter rash. The perk being you can get EXACTLY the fitment you need. Just get some good tires for your stock rims. You still have them, right?

Nevermind posted in the wrong thread! (Was replying to Thatman and on the iPhone it displays the last person to write in that thread, and Thatman was the last on two and I didn't look properly where I was posting haha)

EDIT And I was supposed to hit Edit and not Quote... I was wondering why I had to remove the quote tags. Posting fail today.

Gonna end up paint matching it soon. Not feeling the black.

I think it looks a little awkward without any side skirts, but then I think most side skirts look like crap too, so I'd probably ditch the lip also...

Your car, not mine! :)

Edit: Wheels are lookin' good though!

There are some oem and mild aftermarket sideskirts that I've been looking at that would work well. I've just got better things to spend money on at the moment.

It looks less awkward in real life though.

EDIT:

OEM Chuki sides. Only problem with these is that I don't think they're gonna sit as low as the lip.

OEM Canadian sides.

As long as you keep the rear end stock or go with the Type-X valences, I don't think they're going to look odd. If the front looks lower than everything else, you sort of get that raked effect which is always nice. IMO.

Yeah that's why I wasn't too worried about finding something right away to match the height. The front being lower is the least "intrusive" to a car's overall look, compared to having the sides or rear lower.

I'm most likely going to run chuki sides, but they're kind of hard to find, as I've figured out after getting this thing on and doing some searching. Not to mention people want ~$250 for them.

Read all the way through this and I have to see from what the car was to now is just brilliant. What do you want to do with the car when you've finished modding it.

I doubt it will ever be "finished".

Really looking to get something else to drive though so I can start tracking this thing. I can't risk having my only car disabled.

It's possible to push your daily driver to its limits on a track or anywhere else. Until you go over the limits and break things. And if you're not going over the limits every now and then, you're not driving hard enough.

It is possible to track your daily driver. I've done it for 10 years.

What Keef said. The 240sx isn't really as reliable as a Civic or Miata or something, but it's not really that I think it's going to break, it's just the fact that IF something goes wrong, I don't have any way of getting to work or anything.

Soo, things have been kind of slow lately, I would be buying things but I've got a few things coming up that I'm not sure exactly how they're gonna turn out, so I've been saving my dollars. I got some new taillights on a while back, but I've been waiting for a nice free day to go out and get some proper pictures of them.

On a side note though, I ordered some tires.

Federal SS595
205/45/17 for the front and 215/45/17 for the rear.

I wanted to run 215/40/17s on the front, but apparently, in that size, those Federals run about half an inch shorter than any other tire, which would make my car lower. My car does NOT need to be lower.

In any case, Federals run wide regardless, the 205s are 8.3 inches wide, and the 215s are 8.8, about half an inch wider than most tires I saw on Tirerack, so I'm more or less going to effectively be running a 215 and 225.

Aaaaaand just because:

Also, about the front lip being lower than the rest of the car, the picture doesn't really portray it well, but since the underside of the car hangs lower than the body, you always end up getting just a dark shadow under the car, so even without anything on the side at the moment, in person it kind of ends up being dark all around the bottom of the car, so the front lip being lower doesn't really stand out unless you specifically look for it.

Regardless, it's just temporary until I buy some sides to go with it. Not worried about it at the moment.

Amazing going back to page 1 and seeing the transformation between then and now. Even the colour doesn't look so bad any more! Rear lights look good, from what I can see. Off a later S13 aren't they?

No, $500 for taillights is above my budget. They are actually ebay lights that I've modified. More on that later.

So I got my new tires on and stuff, and took a decent pic of the rear tails.

Basically I bought some ebay altezzas. Started off looking something like:

I also bought some red vinyl, and got a picture of a kouki 180sx center section and did some measuring, taping and cutting:

EDIT: Whoa. Did not see my cat in the picture. Mind:censored:

Aaaand final product looks like this. Yes, my rear bumper is peeling.

It's not perfect, but IMO looks a lot better than the stock tails, and I can replace these for stupid cheap, soooo good enough for me.

On a side note, took some pictures with the new tires. Excuse the cell phone quality, it was a spur of moment thing after washing the car.

Don't mind the lip fitment here. It was better, it's just been hitting the ground a bit since I've had it.

(my rear tires hold my key now. :D)

Works well, definitely better than the original units.

What's next on the list then? Or just driving and enjoying for the time being?

Not sure what's next, most likely a Recaro Pole Position. :D

I've been saving for a few other things though, namely something else to drive, so I'm not sure what order things will happen in.

Looking good so far. Cant wait to see it after you get the side skirts and get the front piece painted to match.

Oh how are you enjoying the new tires? We are looking at 17" tires for our 67 Mustang. So I am just looking at different options. I love the Nittos on my Camaro but they are expensive. I just want a cheaper alternative and your tires look great. Especially since you said they are wider than most other tires that size.

They are definitely wider than most tires, but I can't really comment on the grip levels, one because I haven't really pushed them hard, and two because I've ran nothing but generic, bald-ish tires up until now.

I will say though, they have pretty soft sidewalls, (I think they sell reinforced versions though) and therefore the turn in feel is somewhat lost, but that will probably get better as the wear and the tread blocks get shorter.

A lot of drifters run them because they hold up really well to heat and don't delaminate, but I don't know how much of an importance that is for you.
